  • Apple Maps transit directions come to Atlanta, Miami & UK's National Rail

This stuff isn't easy so my hopes weren't high. I tried a couple of routes on National Rail in the UK and got sensible answers, including two alerts of current conditions (one being a vehicle that's caused disruption on the main line). That looks like good answers with approaching-real-time updates.

I don't often praise Apple's Maps but this looks good.

  • Samsung may launch two bendable smartphones with OLED screens in 2017

OK, someone has to say this: Bendy phones, it's just Samsung copying Apple again.

Maybe it is just me but I think the carplay icons look gash, cheap and unsuited to the aesthetics of car interiors.
There's a lot of personal taste in here but I think it's clear that a single set of icons can't blend perfectly with all the different design approaches from all the car makers. My personal taste agrees with yours, I think the primary-school colours, and their variety, is likely to be a problem. However, I don't have Carplay in my BMW, only a "Siri button", so I have no first-hand experience. Ten years ago, my wife had a Land Rover Freelander whose design aesthetic was "Fisher Price" (big chunky buttons), it would probably have worked OK in that cabin.

  • Why Apple's iPhone SE lacks 3D Touch technology

With the release of the iPhone 6, Apple provided a feature (I forget what it's called) where you can double tap the home button lightly and the top of the screen will slide down halfway making it easier to hit the buttons at the top of the screen without stretching.  Simple question - will that feature also work on the new 4" phone?
I think you're referring to Reachability. It was specifically introduced to help cope one-handed with the 'big' screens on the iPhone 6 etc. It's not on the 5s or SE (the logic offered by Apple when it was introduced implies it's not needed; if your friend has small hands then she may not agree).
