  • Apple confirms customers unable to pick up Apple Store repairs until outlets reopen

The defense of Apple rings extremely hallow when when the online Apple Store is open for business.  That requires a cadre of workers and a long logistics chain to deliver shiny new devices to customers, and are somehow magically shielded from Coronavirus and currently imposed health restrictions.   That being the case, Mr. Cook could & should do a small gesture of good will to those customers endlessly awaiting repairs, and send them a replacement device.  It's the millions of paying customers that allow Mr. Cook to be a corporate philanthropist and donate large sums to his pet cause - time to donate a little back to the customers.

  • Bill Gates steps down from Microsoft board to focus on philanthropy

Time to quote Nicole Aschoff from her 2015 book The New Prophets of Capital: “The transformation of Gates’s image over the past two decades is remarkable. Gates, the ruthless, greedy monopolist, caricatured by Tim Robbins in the 2001 film Antitrust has been supplanted by the earnest, humble Bill, a ‘worldwide force for good.'"  This latest announcement continues to glorifies Bill in that regard. The change of position from board member to "technology advisor" will undoubtedly give him an extra 1-2 mins a day to focus on promoting his namesake foundation.

Of course Gates has become even more obscenely wealthy (an estimated $30 Billion more in net worth) after becoming Mr. Philanthropist.  The inner ravenous greed still rises to the surface though, eg. when presidential candidates like Elizabeth Warren or Bernie Sanders took aim at chipping down his wealth.   Lucky for Gates, he doesn't have to worry about the former and the latter is on the ropes.

  • Apple TV+ nears series order for Scott Z. Burns new anthology 'Extrapolations'

How is this Apple Hollywood pablum the top story while the two-faced shenanigans of Cook to cave to the FBI in allowing insecure iCloud backups not?   In any case, I'm guessing these "intimate stories" of climate change will be carefully screen by Cook to ensure no offense to China -  the world’s largest source of planet-warming carbon emissions and air pollution.

  • Update Firefox now, because the Department of Homeland Security is telling you to

I don't get the snarky title; CISA has been publishing these type of advisories for 10 years and it includes all the major platforms.  They published a security advisory for Apple back in December regarding iOS, Catalina, etc.  It's nothing out the ordinary and they don't order people to do it; the verbiage is, 'encourages users and administrator to apply the necessary updates.'

  • Masimo sues Apple over Apple Watch patents, alleged theft of trade secrets

Did a check on this company and in 2014, Law.com reported that, "Knobbe Martens partner won a $466.8 million verdict for Masimo Corp. over infringement of patents related to blood-oxygen monitoring technology."  The lawsuit was against Netherlands-based Royal Philips Electronic and it was upheld in 2015.   I'm wagering that Cook and Co. will settle out of court.
