California university providing iPad Air bundle for 35,000 students
If by "equity" they meant a mediocre experience for all, I'd say they nailed it. And device aside, I don't understand how education has sunk so low as to teach things which are tactile, real-world skills, using a digital device. Why not go out into the garden, get your hands dirty, and teach by example? This means the teacher has to actually know something, rather than being a stooge pointing to a device. The idea that they "...teach eighth-graders how to tend to the school's community garden" using an iPad...just sounds sad. Maybe I'm wrong. -
Peacock had 42M signups by late April, but most don't pay for service
You know how they get these numbers? I, for example, was "signed up" to this service without my knowledge or approval. Received the confirmation email, etc. Had to contact support, and go through some hoops to get myself out of their system.
I suspect they're inflating the numbers by automatically signing people up via email lists. The most bazaar part was they even sent the "thank you for confirming your email address" email to me, even though I've got two-step authentication enabled on my account, meaning nobody else can read / respond to my emails. It's as if they forced my approval process through. Very odd. -
YouTube algorithm surfaces potentially harmful videos, study finds
When terms such as "harmful" and "regrettable" are so loosely defined and subjectiviely based on the viewer's own views, I find trying to apply such labels as being objective to be misleading. "Do better" winds up meaning "please everyone", a lofty goal indeed. (Not saying there isn't crap on YT, just that different people can have different opinions about the same content.)
