  • Next iPhone SE rumored to look about the same as the iPhone XR

Please consider enabling comments on the article, "Apple's features graveyard: Once heavily marketed, now gone." I was planning to comment but was disppointed they were not available.

  • Apple's CSAM detection system may not be perfect, but it is inevitable

Like it or not, this feature is the equivalent of unreasonable search, but on an ongoing basis. It is framed as a safety feature in order to acclimate the public to this sort of invation of privacy, and turn it into the "new normal". It is the 1984 equivalent of the ever-watching eye / camera in everyone's home, framed as "We must observe you in order to keep you safe. If you have nothing to hide, you have nothing to lose." That's what they all say.

  • What Apple learned from skeuomorphism and why it still matters

IMHO, the strength of skeuomorphism is to simulate physicality within a digital space, even if only for the sake of visual interest. This doesn't have to mean excessive gradients or over the top shading and lighting, but much as the OS7 approach, a simple drop shadow can go a long way toward helping the eyes and brain to divide between foreground and background -- something increasingly lost in modern OSes. There's nothing wrong with simulating 3D within a 2D space, but avoiding a tacky result does take effort and skill.

  • Apple TV+ shares first trailer for Sidney Poitier documentary

For anyone interested, I highly recommend his autobiography "The Measure of a Man". He narrated the audiobook himself, a very engaging story and performance.

  • Apple Leather Link long term review: Still holds up after almost two years

I have never liked Apple's leather products personally, not due to their durability itself but due to the discoloration. Purchased a leather iPhone case years ago, and in under a year it looked so bad (and not in an attractive way) that I purchased leather cleaner to try and restore it. Even that wouldn't help the severely degraded color which turned a bright yellow into a very dirty looking case.

I'm not sure the appeal, maybe some people like what I disliked so much! I just personally don't get it.
