Apple's Dan Riccio responds to bent iPad Pro reports, says device 'meets or exceeds' produ...
We bought an 11" iPad Pro for the office and one for each of our employees. They are all fine... straight as an arrow. For those arguing that it should be perfectly straight... you do realize that this would be impossible, right? There is a certain level of play in every manufacturing process. I think the difference with this model is how it is designed... there is no way to hide a slight curvature. With older models, the curvature of the edges and back could possibly mask them, making them harder to detect. I think it's reasonable to expect some sort of tolerance. I'm not saying I'd be OK with that... if I were Apple I'd offer a replacement if it was opened and not in what the end-user considers mint condition. However, there does need to be some kind of standard or you'll have crazy people reporting a bend that is imperceptible. -
France to hit Apple, other tech giants with new digital tax in January
The goal of a corporation is to increase shareholder wealth. Tax is one of the last line items on the P+L and directly effects profitability. Therefore it is in the corporations best interest to lower its tax burden as much as possible given the applicable tax law. Apple and others are paying their fair share per the law. Don’t like it? Change the law and change the behavior of the corporation but don’t be surprised when those expenses are passed on to your constituents. -
Every Android maker to have 5G flagship by end of 2019, Qualcomm says
Yet, Android devices are too damn slow to even process LTE data fast enough. The net result is you’ll still have a slow phone with no measurable improvement in usability, but you’ll pay twice as much for a sticker on the box so you can tell your friends you’re ready for 5G. By the time 5G rolls around, you’ll have an antiquated paperweight. -
Review: Apple's 11-inch iPad Pro is stunningly powerful, with a few key limitations
Hey everyone... go over to https://bugreport.apple.com/web/ and submit a bug demanding that Apple add external drive support to the Files app. It's ridiculous that it's not there. You can plug in any USB drive but you can't get to the data which is just dumb for a "laptop replacement". If they add USB drive support to the Files interface, it would make it a much more viable alternative for a lot of people.
The other missing piece is mouse support. Now I was never a fan of adding it to a touch-based device, but the thing is that people look at the iPad vs. Surface and the surface can support a mouse so they go with that... because they *might* need a mouse. Apple could see a Bluetooth mouse with multitouch and it would be a hit. You can also then use the iPad on a desk without lifting your hand in the air to navigate things.
They also need to actually support 4K like they said... that's still not working based on our tests with multiple devices.
Also... they need to provide better second screen support. Developers can support this as well, but it would be great to be able to flick apps to a second screen for monitoring things and use the main screen for touch and editing. -
Apple confirms T2 coprocessor blocks some third-party Mac repairs
bitmod said:Massive money grab meant to render out of warranty products useless.
If the new iMacs and Mac pros have this, then Apple can kiss the Pro market goodbye. Who’s going to buy pro gear with no aftermarket value? Want to replace a HDD... that will be $960 at your authorized dealer thank you...
You are also quite myopic in your evaluation. No one is saying the device can’t be worked on out of warrantee. It just needs to be done by someone who is certified by Apple to do so. That’s it. That’s the only requirement. There are authorized Apple service centers all over. If it’s not nearby, you can mail it in.
Lastly, your obvious use of hyperbole is astounding. Really? You think that’s what authorized service centers would charge for a replaceable hard drive? Mind you that modern Macs mostly have the storage soldered to the motherboard so you would need to replace that too. The whole notion is that your Mac has enough storage to work for most of what you need and if you need more storage, you have Thunderbolt 3 which is PCI Express on a cable running 40 gbit/sec. I think you’ll be fine. You’ll be able to buy 2 TB of SSD storage for $100 in 10 years and have all the storage you could need.
PS: Macs don’t use HDD anymore... they use SSD.
