Apple might be following the old advertising motto "We will sell no wine before its time." Maybe they're not happy with the performance, reliability, and security of their (experimental) under-screen fingerprint sensors. Or maybe it just doesn't suit their marketing plans.

But yes, I'd certainly find it acceptable if Apple came out with a phone with that as a feature and it was as good as the one on my 3rd Gen SE. I'm just saying I like having to take a purposeful physical action to unlock my phone or authorize a purchase. (Yes I'm aware I can disable it all and just use a password, but who wants to do that?)

I know I'm probably in the luddite minority here, but I'd really like it to keep the same size and - in particular - the home button with Touch ID.

Convenient or not, I've never been comfortable with the passive unlock and authentication granted by Face ID. It's a slick bit of technology, but I like having to take the explicit action of putting my thumb on the home button to make privileged things happen.
