  • First look: Apple's HomePod is loud, heavy and powerful

My first impressions after opening the box an hour ago...

    1. Wow, this thing is heavy for its size.
    2. Everything needs a fabric-covered power cord like this.
    3. Siri's voice sounds good.
    4. Whoa. The bass. It's unexpectedly DEEP for a 4" driver.
    5. The highs are crisp and clear and sound good throughout the room.
    6. I was hoping for a bit "warmer" sound akin to the Bose products I have. The HP seems to be lacking a bit in the mid-range department. It's heavy on bass and treble - much like people adjust equalizers in the shape of a "V" or "U" (I'm telling my age here).
    7. Siri hears me even better than my Echo devices, which is impressive.

I'm still at work, but I can see my HomePod sitting at my front door via my security camera.

    This is torture.

How does Hey Siri work with multiple devices in the same room? Is it still buggy? As it is now for me on the latest software, if I raise my wrist and say Hey Siri to my Apple Watch, my iPhone also activates Siri at the same time. Will I now have three devices activating Siri every time?
I hope Siri works better than Alexa in this regard. I'll often be ten feet away in direct earshot of my kitchen Echo, yet an Echo 40 feet away down a hall and in a bedroom will respond. I have to purposely lower my voice so that the more distant Echo can't hear me.

Mine is in a UPS truck circling the neighborhood.  Can’t wait.
I'll likely be at work when mine gets delivered (I taped the "pre-sign for delivery" form to my front door before I left this morning) then I have to get a hair cut. I, too, am anxious to begin using it. It's been a while since I've been this excited about an Apple product even though I have no idea exactly how I'm going to use it just yet. Apple seems to have a knack for being able to sell me things even before I know exactly what all they do.

    SON of a... GRRR!!!

Last week, I bought a 4K TV and needed a 4K Apple TV. I'd already tried DTVNow a year ago and it was a complete disaster.

I have NO intentions of using their awful service, but pre-paid for 4 months @ $35 ONLY to get the Apple TV 4K for $140 vs $179 at retail.

    Win some, lose some.
Same here. Prepaid 4 mos just to get ATV 4K during Christmas...lol.
I just initiated a chat from their website and told them I signed up for the ATV-for-4 five days ago and this morning I found out they're offering the ATV-for-3 and asked if I could get a refund for the 4th month. To my surprise they immediately refunded $35 to my card with no hassle whatsoever. I don't know if the service itself has improved since I haven't tried it, but the customer service must have.
