Honda says Apple CarPlay coming standard on 2018 Accord 2.0T, optional on other trims
sog35 said:What I don't understand is why car companies do put a DECENT multi-touch screen?
They are still using dung screens. The 2016 Accord has those dung screens where you can't use pinch to zoom or other gestures on Apple Maps. It sucks. And how much does a decent screen cost? $40? Ridiculous.
Automotive touch-screens are also expected to work in sub-freezing temperatures and after the vehicle has been parked in the hot, desert sun all day and the interior reaches 150°F or more for more than a decade and hundreds of thousands of miles - far more extreme conditions for a much longer period of time than an iPad will ever see. -
DirecTV Now dropping Safari support for browser streaming in favor of Chrome exclusivity
The DirecTV NOW service was a joke from the very beginning. The ONLY thing good I have to say about them is that they gave me a truly free Apple TV 4 after refunding my 3-month trial.
I use Chrome on my work PC. It like to lock up once or twice a day and it keeps dropping support for things forcing me to use Internet Explorer.
I was very pleased with Safari at work until Apple discontinued the PC version. -

Patent licensing on MP3 format expires, Apple-preferred AAC now a 'de facto standard'
Awww.
The first compressed audio file I ever played was called "techo.MP2" (not MP3) that I downloaded over dial-up on my Tandy 2500 SX/33 computer that had a 386SX processor, 4 MB of RAM, and a 107 MB Seagate hard drive with a 250 MB tape backup. The sound quality of that file was more like AM radio. The computer wasn't fast enough to decode an MP3 in real-time - I had to covert it to a .WAV first, but there was only enough space for a few of those on the hard drive!
