  • Apple says it's been losing money on its repair programs

I look forward to Louis Rossmann's feedback on this. :)

  • DoorDash confirms 4.9M accounts accessed in major server breach

So DoorDash is like Uber for Food Delivery? People can actually make money doing that?
Yes, but not much. To net an income, you need:

    1. A steady stream of orders to accept.
    2. A small, economical vehicle - ideally, a scooter that gets 100+ MPG and costs very little to insure and has a luggage rack on the back.
    3. Customers who tip far more than the minimum amount.

The most successful will drive for Uber and Lyft and DoorDash and Waitr so they're constantly on the go.

I see a lot of Waitr drivers when I'm in restaurants, but I rarely see the same ones twice. A lot of them think it's easy money then they realize they're lucky to break even and give up after a few weeks or months.

    DoorDash. Ha!

I first tried this service a few months ago because it was the only food delivery service in the small town where I work.

The restaurant from which I ordered is five minutes away. The restaurant immediately began preparing the food when I submitted the order and it was ready for pickup within minutes. Using the app, I watched one driver accept the run only to cancel minutes later before another driver from almost 30 minutes away accepted it. The quesadillas were finally delivered to me by a smelly, middle-aged obese man wearing a tank top and too-short shorts driving a filthy SUV full of passengers including an unrestrained child in the front seat about an hour and fifteen minutes later.

I got a full refund and canceled my service. Thankfully, I joined and canceled in June.

  • Apple releases iOS 12.4.2 for older iPhone & iPad, alongside watchOS 5.3.2

I bought one of the last new 32 GB iPhone SE's through Apple's Clearance section earlier this year. I updated it to iOS 13.1 and found the scrolling and swiping to be every bit as smooth as iOS 12 with no perceivable judder. I only run a few of the most popular third-party apps such as Facebook and Netflix, but these run great. I've even contemplated making it my primary phone instead of my Xs Max, which is too big and heavy. Using the SE is such a nostalgic delight. The better cameras are the primary feature that would keep me from downgrading.

  • Apple's new tvOS 13 for Apple TV is now available

    zroger73 said:

Why? It's unobtrusive and the sound is muted until you swipe up to watch full screen.
    1. Because it uses data which can be a concern for those without unlimited data.
    2. It's a visual distraction that I find extremely annoying.
    3. I consider it unwanted advertising which is one of the primary reasons I canceled my cable TV subscription and moved to Apple TV.

    1. Really? I was under the impression people used their wifi router or ethernet cable connected online from their ISP.

    2. Well it's supposed to enhance your content.

    3. It's not advertising. It's supposed to show your content. It isn't like Roku ads that suggest content you don't own.

    1. I suspect you're thinking i was referring to cellular-based data plans, but I wasn't. The two local cable internet providers in my area have 350 and 500 GB monthly data allowances ("caps") on their standard plans after which the subscriber is charged overage fees for blocks of additional data. One of the carriers offers unlimited data, but the plan is about twice as expensive. The other provider doesn't offer unlimited data at any price.

    2. Well, it doesn't - it annoys and distracts me.

    3. I shouldn't be forced to preview any content - including content that I already own. I know what I'm looking for or can browse through a list. With that said, it's been 12 hours since I updated my four Apple TV's to tvOS 13 and I'm not yet seeing any video previews (except when the Arcade icon is highlighted). So far, I continue to see "Top Movies" and "Top TV Shows" which contain suggestions for content that I do NOT own, have never watched, nor appear to be interested in within each respective category. I don't mind that too much since it's just static images and not video.

Also, I didn't see any of the new underwater screensavers or an option to choose them after upgrading last night. This morning, there's still no category to select the underwater screen savers, although I did find one while manually scrolling through the "aerial" screensavers. I'm hoping as additional screensavers download, I'll be able to select only the underwater screensavers since they don't belong under the "aerial" category.
