hmm.... They have all been pretty big. From an 8 mhz SE to a 25 mhz Quadra to a 333 mhz G3. The next will be to a duel G5 2 mhz or 2.5 mhz. This will be the biggest leap in numbers, but I'm not sure about performance. -

Same common advice, buy RAM. A 512 MB SoDimm DDR 333 ram, should only cost 100 $ at crucial or alike. You will need only ten minutes, to install it, if you have a very small screwdriver. I have one GB ram on my powerbook 17 (first edition) and it rocks -

Had a similar problem with a tray-load iMac 333 with the Ethernet port going. AppleCare replaced the motherboard (back when it was still in). If you can't get any connection lights when booting from a system CD, then unfortunately the port is gone. -
