How big is your iPhoto library?I'm at 3,376 photos and 3,477 Mb. Needless to say, iPhoto moves at a complete crawl.
I apparently currently have 1678 pictures taking up 1.61 GB (mainly of pictures taken via my Coolpix 885) -
