  • August expands lineup with new August View doorbell cam

When the hell are we going to get a product that lets you record to local NAS?

Damn these companies and their cloud subscriptions for every little thing. I don’t want to pay them to store my doorbell videos, and I don’t want them to have access to that footage period. I swear the only reason they even make these products at all is to try and sell the cloud storage.

  • Apple COO Jeff Williams 'aware' of iPhone, Mac price concerns

It’s always the same story. Our puny minds can’t comprehend the expenses Apple has. Well, every company has expenses that are not materials cost. Is that really the customer’s burden to bear? I think what customers want is for some of that past R&D to start to amortize, and result in stable product lines. This unpredictable continuous rise in prices for no compelling reason has everyone concerned.

Meanwhile, our puny minds can comprehend the balance sheet, and profit is obscene. The same old story doesn’t fly.

Dont get get me wrong I think it’s perfectly fine for Apple to have a wide line of iPhone, but they’ve pushed the envelope on what a flagship model can cost and they’re not doing anything they weren’t doing 5 years ago when a flagship iPhone was $650.

  • Apple to simplify Safari AutoFill with Touch ID support in macOS 10.14.4

Face ID needs to come to the Mac yesterday. Fumbling for the power button location doesn’t need any more new use cases. Touch ID just isn’t a good experience on the Mac.  Your hands are already resting on a physical keyboard. Unless you have a really complicated password, it’s almost always more convenient to just type it in. Only Face ID would be superior to this, as it would authenticate before you even realize you need to.

  • Being practical about iPad Pro, Mac mini, iMac and other possible Apple launches in Octobe...

If there's a new iPad mini I'll grab one. Thinking a phone is the universal replacement for a mini is dumbass.
Not nearly as dumbass as thinking the mini will ever be updated again.

  • Apple urges developers to create and promote ARKit apps

Let’s hope this matures over time. Initial impressions of current Apps with ARKit integration are extremely disappointing.

I’ve no doubt that these early apps are half baked and merely trying to take advantage of early adopters. But ARKit still appears to me to have severe limitations. Plane detection is abysmal in all 20 apps I’ve tried. Spatial awareness is not what I expected either.

Everything I’ve tried so far is a gimmick, a completely forgettable one that either doesn’t work or has no lasting power.
