Prefectly stated. You've really gotten to the heart of the matter here.

As Woody Allen said, "Ninety percent of life is just showing up."

Not sure exactly how that applies here, but it seems to somehow.

    This proves the following:

MS building stuff that doesn't work well = poor financial results

Apple building great stuff = great financial results

Steve Ballmer ... it's a VERY VERY SIMPLE EQUATION.

What type of document would fit in the "can't do on Apple" list anyhow?

Graphic Converter can open nearly any still graphic format out out there and save back out in many of them.

VLC can deal with the occasional video that Quicktime can't handle

OpenOffice can open most of the office suite files out there and for what it can't handle DataViz's MacLink will do a reasonable job.

And if all else fail there is always Darwine.

With all this the file would have to real obscure or niche for NONE of these options to work.

We'll see less and less reliance on Windows. The Apple community has grown by leaps and bounds over the last few years. MS is less and less of a player when it comes to consumer software. Look at Firefox and look at IE's plunging web share. Choices abound, and people are discovering alternatives.

Ummmm... doesn't Apple STILL only have like a 3% market share as compared to Microsoft!! lol Apple will say ANYTHING to make people think they are anywhere near as 'in demand' as Microsoft!

Windows isn't "in demand." It really never has been. It's what was there, and what was cheap.

PCs loaded with Windows are on average a lot cheaper. Use one and you'll see why.

Apple rules the Premium end of the market and sells on margin, not volume. Macs are very much in demand. Apple's recent numbers bear this out easily. Not everoyne can afford one. Such is life.

The same route Apple has chosen with the Mac: an emphasis on profit share rather than unit sale share. And it's a brilliant way of doing things.

Overall market share doesn't mean squat when you rule the Premium end of the market pyramid and the rest are relegated to bargain-bin status. Apple chooses not to compete in the low end/bottom end. Can't say I blame them. It's dirty down there, and it shows.

Poor Apple.... If they consider this a win, then that company has more problems than we thought!?? This is the same as the snoddy emo kid that says.... "That big cool guy that beat me up wasn't so tough... I bruised his knuckles with my face!" hahahahahha

You mean great stuff like ipods that explode or catch on fire? Or is it the macs that all the emo kids have to blow they're income tax money on so they can have a really cool , expensive plastic case that comes bundled with exactly the same stuff as you find in a more reasonably priced pc? Is that the really 'great stuff' your refering too?

Poor Apple... look its bad enough all your posts make you out to be an MS troll, but Apple is "POOR?" hahahahaha!

They have more money in the bank than MS, have a higher marketcap and their business is booming. Microsoft is declining and they are bleeding money.

    poor Apple indeed.

    MS fanboys crack me up.

Why do "emo kid" or "emo kids" show up in most of your posts?

What does this have to do with that type of individual?

Apple's only problem is the rest of the industry trying to rip them off just shy of inviting legal action. Apple is doing everyone else'a R&D.

Are you here to make a contrbution of some kind, or are you here to bait everyone?

Apple's market cap is not larger than Microsoft's and Microsoft is still making a ton of money.

True, but what's the point of the "my market cap is bigger than your market cap" argument? Nobody invests in a company because of the size their market cap.

The 'D' in R&D includes payroll at Microsoft; after all, the software engineers, testers, and program managers are 'developing' the software. That's why Microsoft's R&D number is so big.

Fair enough, I was just wondering about the relevance.
