The ten incher is likely in the future but I do suspect multiple Touch based devices this go around. Here are the guesses:
1.
An upgraded Touch, this is so obvious that I doubt anybody will disagree. What is inside the case is an open question the upgrade is not though.
2.
A hybrid Nano, this device would include a small Touch screen and a limited set of apps. It would likely track patents Apple has on file for integration of the click wheel into the screen.
3.
A Newton Touch device, this would have a seven inch or so screen and a lot more memory. It would very much be a Touch based iPod but with a big screen.
I really don't think a Mac OS/X device exists. It would be doomed to failure if it did. Instead I expect multiple Touch based devices to hit the shelves. In the case of the ten incher it will be running an enhanced version of iPhone OS. The seven inch device could very well just run regular Touch though I expect Apple to continue to improve Touch.
It is interesting that we have less than two weeks to go and there has been very little in the way of leaks. So I won't speculate on when the big boy will come. What I'd like to know is what magic secrecy pill did Apple get all it's subcontractors to swallow with respect to iPods in general. Touch, Nano, Shuffle and what ever is new, there have been no leaks. This leads me to guess that a major revamping of the entire line up is about to happen.
Personally, while I like the Beatles, I don't think they command attention these days. Most fans already own all the CDs, and while a remaster set is nice people are turned off by the prospect of getting on a 'music upgrade' treadmill. How often do the labels simply tweak the recording and re-package everything just to sell the same songs all over again? We've all learned, both with music and movie re-releases, that the terms 'Ultimate', 'Definitive', and 'Final' editions mean nothing.
Based on nothing but my own conjecture, I would expect Beatles remastered songs on iTunes (256 kbps AAC and all) to break all known music sales records.
I own everything from RS on, including PM2, from the late 80's CD masters -- with the exception of The White Album (because I just can't justify the $30+ outlay it for the six or seven songs I actually care about).
If these turn out to be great remasters (and not those horrid remix/remasters that some artists inflict on their fans), I'll probably replace at least Sgt Peppers, MMT, Abbey Road, and Past Masters on day 1 of their release. And likely the rest over the course of September.
Yes, people who like the Beatles probably already have the CDs, but don't underestimate the demand for better masters than the late 80's versions we've been stuck with for twenty years.
Announced/unveiled 9/09, available 1/2010. Just like the iPhone and the Apple TV- announced in advance by SJ, available later. I'd expect SJ to be relishing in advance his unveiling of his new "precious".

As always, YMMV.
There were some articles in the current issue of Rolling Stones, which claimed
that the new remasters are very good. Also, there was a survey where they
asked people their favorite groups and the Beatles were in the top 4 for
every age range. I found that a little surprising (for young people to put
the Beatles in the top 4), but, if true, it may mean that iTunes sales will
didn't Micheal Jackson own the rights to most Beatles songs?
Sort of. He owned the publishing rights to much of the Beatles catalog, which is only part of the equation. Snopes.com has a very good summary of the situation, how it came about, and all the moving parts if you are interested in the details.
More like this... Sources confirm Sun to rise in the East and set in the West.
Well if we're going for accuracy... "Well placed anonymous corporate insiders have reluctantly confirmed the Sun will rise in the East and set in the West."
Really, there is that much discussion about the difference of one day?
Probably had more to do with acknowledging their long-standing policy of providing reasonable travel time for any media types who would wish to attend.
It does well to remember that Apple is the "the devil's in the details" company of Silicon Valley.
What's a "Newton Web tablet," and how can it be much anticipated if I've never heard of it?
I know - particularly since Steve Jobs would love to honor the memory of his bestest friend in the whole wide world - John Sculley by bringing his project names back to life.
Newton nerds, get over it - you're worse than the "Amiga will rise again" crowd.
Some go as far as saying that the Newton was the 1st handheld computer but that's not an accurate statement. Psion beat Apple to the punch by almost 15 years tho their device would hardly be categorized as a 'modern pda' as we know them. None the less they where the 1st. However Apple is credited for coining the acronym PDA but the meaning at that time stood for "Personal Data Assistant" well data was eventually replaced with digital perhaps to avoid any legal wrangling Apple might bring up.
It would not make sense for the tablet to be released in Q1.
I will not be surprised if it comes on the 9th. I will also not be surprised if it comes anytime between now and Xmas.
Apple runs on a fiscal calendar that is not the same as the regular one. they are like Nov to Oct. not Jan to Dec.
so Q1 for them would be November and frankly I don't see it.
I honestly believe that any tablet would have cell data built in and would not be released until they are done with ATT so that the carrier can't try to claim coverage of the device by their contract

Truly, a passable camera and GPS in a Touch would crush other manufacturers - both GPS and camera. Apple has a continuing revenue stream with apps, music, and videos that the other device manufacturers can't lean on. Not that Apple would cut their margins.

If the new iPods don't come with frickin' laser beams so I can vanquish my enemies, I'm not getting one.
Fixed that for you.
Good catch:

There is a rumor that there will be a dock connector accessory, which has both
a high powered laser and a shark fin mounting bracket.

I really hope the Apple TV announcement is a software update and not brand new hardware, because I just bought this thing about 6 months ago.
As opposed to someone who just bought something YESTERDAY?

I'm gonna go out on a limb and bet it was circa 5 years (+-) of the year your were born or technology is a relatively new hobby.
If you're truly interested since it does make for an interesting slice of PDA history...

Weren't the last ones supposed to be "very good"? What was wrong with those? If they
were supposed to be leaps and bounds above the prior version how much better can these be?
