I can easily see Apple's tablet, being used extensively in the medical profession... recording patients stats, and the likes, and automatically uploading to patients records and all that kind of stuff. Who knows what some smart medical type will be able to add on.... (imagine waving the tablet across a patient with a broken bone or whatever, and with the use of "some kind of MRI-camera or the likes" being able to see whats wrong.

Interesting idea?? (Funny thing.... I pictured this in my mind a few nights back... Doctors and Nurses walking around with these advanced Apple Tablets, a bit like a Star Trek ships sick bay!!)

Another no-brainer use for an Apple MacTouch (Pro?)...

    Logic Studio & MainStage...

Combine with the Apogee GIO (don't forget the expression pedal), a stereo power amp and a few speaker cabinets, instant way cool guitar rig...

Now this also sounds like a cool idea. (How could I have missed this use for the Tablet) As I do dabble in music a bit... It might renew my interest there!

My partner was really hoping to see a larger version of the iphone/ pro-tools controller. I was hoping for a touch surface colorists mixer.

Overall, since the iphone OS can theoretically do the above, I'm not sure we need full blown OSX for said device.

I am really hoping for a form factor larger than 7".

I'm pretty sure it'll be incredible no matter what we get.

my only wish is for this tablet rumor to be true and if so, I am looking forward to apple's interpretation of it.

I think tablets of some form are a reality. I just hope it is a family of devices to make us all happy. I strongly suspect that most of these rumors are the result of a larger iPod Touch device. That might turn off a lot of people. Personally I like Touch and the infrastructure around it, so the idea of one of these rumored tablets being an iPod sort of makes me happy.

My original thought has Logic Studio/MainStage running as the entire 'front-end' of the guitar rig, meaning the computer (and Logic Studio/MainStage) itself ARE the effects pedals & preamp (amp modeling); the Apogee GIO (plus expression pedal) interface allows for foot control, and the touchscreen (MacTouch Pro) allows for finer grain control of Logic Studio/MainStage itself...

The stereo power amp & dual speaker cabs only provide the final (stereo) output...

So yes, ability to run the full standard version of OS X is a requirement! Hence the 'Pro' added onto the naming...

If Apple is indeed working on a consumer device in this form factor, I think there is something we do not know about it.

It is either destined for schoolkids, as an all-in-one textbook, worksheet swiss-army edu-tool.

    Or it's a carputer.

Or it's has some other primary function.

I doubt that it is a simply netbook with no keyboard.

The main thing I want in an iTablet is the pixel density of the iPhone. The pixel density of laptops would be a huge disappointment.

I disagree. Field-upgradable memory would increase cost and reduce reliability.

While iPhone has an excellent screen, tranfering that density to a tablet has some problems. Number one is that a large screen implies a lot of pixels to process and manage. This could impact video performance or in a worst case drastically shorten battery life times.

So while I don't disagree with you, a gorgeous screen is nice, I just doubt we are there yet engineering wise. Of course Apple has PA Semi working on this and they might be able to pull off a surprise.

Well this is very much a trade off that I acknowledge but I believe it is worth looking into. The problem is that mass storage is critical for a devices long term viability. With out that upgrade option the tablet becomes a disposable land fill expanding item.

By the way I mean for this to be additional storage beyound Apples base configuration. So if the ttablet comes with 256GB of flash soldered in place the expansion slot would provide for doubling or tripling that space. While I understand the nature of plug in cards, especially in portable devices, I do believe the tech is now currently reliable enough to make many happy. After all plug in ports are used all over todays laptops for various devices.

As a side note, reliability is a concern to many for other reasons. I'd actually like to see Apple produce things like the iPhone and this tablet with an optional marine grade conformal coating. This to cut down in corosion and suseptability to moisture. This would likely add to the cost but would be great for boaters and those working in high moisture environments.

This close to a major event and no leaks, photos or advanced mock ups. It just isn't right. I really want to see Apple expand it's line up but I'm discouraged that we will see anything of note at the coming announcements.

If nothing else I'm curious about what PA Semi will come up with. Will the device have ground breaking electronics or will we simply get another run of the mill ARM SoC. It would be very nice if Apple and ARM where to define a brand new 64 bit ARM ISA. Make that chip dual core or more with the latest GPU and Apple could have a winner on their hands.

There is also the outside chance that Apple will target ATOM with PA providing a support chip. The only thing I like about that is that 64 bits is already there.

If the memory were to be upgradable, 99.44% would never be upgraded after purchase and would end up in a landfill just as soon.

    1. OS X.

    2. No need for stylus. Use finger to write.

    3. 10" screen

    4. USB ports for optional Mouse and Keyboard and other accessories

    5. Optional stand to use as a desktop.

+1. I don't want a PC stylus to go with my Apple stuff.

This flies in the face of the reality that on PCs and Laptops the harddrive is one of the most upgraded parts on the machine. Why do you suspect that a tablet would be any different? Mind you I'm talking about Flash memory here.

If this tablet has any sort of a media bent to it, that is movies and TV, then expandability of the built in storage is going to be a key consideration for many. We already see peoples frustration with touch and iPhones limited storage, it will only be worst on a media device. On top of that we have ebooks and magazines, which are maybe not that massive as text documents but could be expanded by APple into a richer offering.

There are many reasons for one to believe that customers would want the ability to increase storage capacity after purchase. Such a facility can be enginneered soundly and not take up much internal space.

What do you think you would gain from OS/X on a tablet device? I continue to see this in postings here but really don't get it at all. Do people really think that they will be able to pull OS/X software off the shelf and be productive with it on a tablet? It would be far easier for Apple to extend the user interface in IPhone OS then to try to work backwards with OS/X. That doesn't mean however that we won't see features of IS/X on iPhone or this new tablet as some will port very well, the new dock being a perfect example.

As to ports I'm hoping Apple wises up myself and doesn't pull an AIR boner. A tablet needs ports just like everything else and to add to your list I offer up the following:

    1.

    Video out through display port.

    2.

Ethernet. Yeah I know old wired tech but it is a great fall back to have.

    3.

    FireWire 800.

    4.

SD card slots. Both internal and external.
