No, Apple has 90% of retail computers over $1000. Which excludes pretty much whole business, government/education/army/... buyers. I'm not even sure if on-line purchases are included in that retail study..?
Wow, this was creepy. Stalkerish peeping-tom creepy. The very notion of Microsoft opening a store was disturbing enough, from a business perspective, as the only thing they really stand to gain is brand recognition?but like so much of the other things they've done lately, I can't help but to think the money could have been spent better elsewhere. And opening up right across from the Apple Store is probably a terrible idea. Apple is going to show them up.
What kills me is that this is almost a clone of the Apple store. Microsoft's business and products are very different from Apple's. Apple carefully researched and tailored their store's presentation to suite their products and customers, and Microsoft just copied it without any regard for the differences between the two companies.
Good job, Microsoft. You're training your faithful to be comfortable in an Apple Store.
Brand recognition is exactly what they are looking for. Accidentally it is very important factor in reaching for consumers with MP3 players, phones, video games... just to mention a few. Which is, accidentally, what MS has been pushing recently with ZuneHD, WinMo6.5 (and 7 whenever released), upcoming tablet...
With Windows 7 and Server 2008R2 families released for desktop/computer market, I feel MS will - for a while at least - shift it's focus from computers. I'd expect their advertising campaign will reflect that as well - no way 300M are spent on those handful of laptop-hunter commercials.
I fully understand Apple is a hardware company the problem is Apple doesn't understand and that seeing most of their attack ads are pointed at MS which is a software company. Shouldn't they get geared towards HP or Dell?
Or Sony or Acer or Asus or Gateway or Lenovo or Alien. There are just too many possibilities. There ads first started as simply being PC v Mac, despite Macs being PCs. Since VIsta was a blunder they used that opportunity to kick MS while they were down. It?s business, not the playground They all use Windows so if you put fear of Windows being bad into the customer?s mind then no non-Mac PC looks viable.
On top of that, there is also the very common yet silly attempt to directly compare Apple?s OS sales which only come on Apple?s HW to all of MS? OS sales, so why not make the ad as useful as possible. MS? laptop buyer ads are all focused on the HW. Each company is trying to make the ads work, doesn?t mean that a more intelligent comparison is valid from those ads. Gotta love marketing.

Apple can't get more market share. Decades have proven that fact time and time again.
Sure they can. All they have to do is license their OS. MS had to license XP on the cheap when Vista wouldn?t run on netbooks and Linux was getting installed as the de facto at first. MS would shit bricks if Apple actually licensed PC OS X.

A few good quarters for Apple isnt exactly a trend. All it takes is one good health scare for SJ and your stock will be down to 83 dollars a share again. Apple stock has rebounded but that doesn't mean it can't go back down. I believe when it was that level before people were saying it was going to 250 and then 500. Instead it went to the mid 80's. I wouldn't go counting your Apples just yet.
The stock went down with the recession and it went back up with every other company even while Jobs was out of the picture for 6 months. Check out their stock history overlaid with the NASDAQ.
Apple has had more than A FEW quarters of profit. Check out there history. iPods, Macs, iPhones are all pushing beyond the industry average. The only losing unit sales YoYis the iPod, but that is due to the phones doubling as PMPs. Other PMPs are losing out too so Apple?s PMP marketshare is still holding strong.

I stated that Apple may have used Verizon to curry favour with AT&T. You are now confirming that it was good tactic for Apple to do so, assuming it was the case? I guess having the iPhone and the radical change in the cellphone market is better than not having it at all.
Are you sure they will stay there? We?ve already seen some changes happen. Nokia is losing a lot of ground quickly and a few years ago no one thought they could falter. The iPhone is far from being as good as business as Blackberries, but it does have many other pluses that make it attractive to users and businesses, especially the lower per user fee. If Apple can tie up some of the business use shortcomings it may beat out the Blackberry in some markets, it?s certainly beating out the Storm, which was a direct response to the iPhone?s arrival.
I don't really see it as being a big bang for the buck either but what gets annoying is everytime MS does something people spout off they are scared of Apple or copying Apple which is a joke.
Apple spends just as much money trying to combat MS. So maybe they are the ones that are scared. God forbid anyone say that. Lets remember who has 90% of the OS market.
No, Apple has 90% of retail computers over $1000. Which excludes pretty much whole business, government/education/army/... buyers. I'm not even sure if on-line purchases are included in that retail study..?
Apple has also reported that it takes in ⅓ of every dollar in PC sales in the US. Since they can easily add up what all the other make in a quarter, that number would include all sales expect DIY PCs. That seems to coincide with the 91% of all PC sales in the US over $1000 they?ve also reported.

I believe Apple wanted to deal with all repairs and tech support for the phone, and Verizon didn't want that. They also didn't want to give a cut of the money from the plan, but that is speculation.
Bottom line is, the way Verizon supports phones is utter shit. I've experienced first hand their stupid agents support the Treo700w and how incompetent they are. When you see that, it is clear why Apple didn't want Verizon's reputation for support tarnishing their image.
Unless you enjoy the solution to every issue being a "hard reset".
Btw, most people, on the loonatic fringe, left and right, don't hesitate to invoke the Nazi's. We hit Godwin's law here awhile ago.
Of course, there is this article as to why the left says Bush was a Nazi/Fascist, and then of course Obama is obviously a Nazi because both groups wanted nationalized health care .

1. Premium market, your comments there is no premium market and then I provided links to show that many industry reviewers discuss premium market and its not Apple's or their Fanboys making this sector up. You change your tune.
2. Verizon would have the same issues has AT&T with concern to the iPhone, this is my opinion and I can not prove it, but I discussed it with many of my IT guys and their felt the same way. No one expected iphone to change the way people surf the internet so much.
Can you show me proof of Verizon turning down Apple or this just another one of your opinions.
At least when you are providing your opinions, provide some evidence to support your comments and if other people provide evidence, then you should provide counter evidence. But ranting your opinions with a little supporting data, I just do not believe what you are saying.
MS may have 90% of the market share in OS, but investors are not confident of its earning power and thats something that needs to change. I think MS needs Bill Gates, like Apple requires SJ. The Bald head eagle in charge is just screwing up the company. I can't show proof, but there are enough links to show his half-thought dumb comments about other competitors, who later become successful.
Windows marketshare is based on cheap PC's for a large part.
Funny how Dell now seems to be trying the boutique computer thing now. But, they for years wanted to be the Walmart of the computer business. It got them a lot of marketshare, but at what price? Going to be hard to convince consumers to buy something expensive from Dell. Dell lead a bunch of others into the ground having to play in the near zero margin space. They need volume to make it.
Apple won't and has never done that. They see the carnage.
It certainly will only gain minute share but its a nice profitable little niche.
Windows is associated with cheap.
Tell that to pros who purchase units like Lenovo W... configured to the max, it gets close to US$6,000. And that is without extra software or extended warranty. But you don't purchase that in retail.

Every company has a not so proud product and Apple TV is one for Apple. But come were do we start with MS.
Vista
The AppleTV has not been great, but it?s no worse than any other dedicated media appliance on the market. It looks like things have changed enough that Apple may actually know how to make the next iteration a success. They certainly can?t drop it altogether without losing the living room. The only other option is to work out deals to get the AppleTV OS on other companies, but that doesn?t seem likely.

the best part is that yet again CP+B is the ad house. and guess what they use for all their work. yep. Macs.
