Teck, use your head, seriously. Apple operates in the Premium end - meaning not everyone will be able to afford a Mac, and Apple doesn't license their OS out to everyone and their dog (read: junk-box makers.) Apple themselves have made their position on this very clear, conference call after conference call.
Apple own the market segment in which it operates and leads the industry in innovation. Everyone wants to be Apple, not in the least because Apple's found a way to thrive during a recession and leads the industry in growth, year over year. You don't get that by accident.
If you've come back just to troll, then at least troll different.
You really think these ads appeal to premium buyers? And you're asking me to use MY head?
Success of iPods , iPhones, flop of Vista, and switching to Intel has boosted Apple, not those ads. They are entertaining but also obnoxious. Apple could do a lot better.
And on another note, thank god Apple has dropped- "there's an App for that" ads - made my blood curl listening to that voice.
You don't take that seriously- please tell me you don't. It's much to early to determine that result.
Call me naive, but unless something is qualified by an appropriate smiley that suggests otherwise (or suggests a nuance) or something is obviously, say, meant as sarcasm, I truly assume that people are being serious and honest when they post.
Apple Inc., who has worked a lot in breaking sales records, making financial history (in a recession), despite cheaper, allegedly "higher value" options, has a great deal of experience in this matter.
Do you actually think the average consumer Apple targets feels insulted that Apple is trashing MS??? Do you think the average person feels sorry for *companies*, or that they'll find Apple's ads objectionable or ethically wrong??? Are you that out of touch? ROFL, Apple isn't attacking Roosevelt's dog Fala, or an actual *person*! Do you think people find attacks on MICROSOFT, one of the most hated companies in all of tech - a *convicted* monopoly abuser, responsible for so much data loss over the years it's not even quantifiable, due in part to their virus-ridden, blue-screening garbage operating systems, to be objectionable? They barely care about the good ones, so they're going to somehow waste even a second considering it when it comes to, of all companies, MS?? Only on fansites on the ass-end of the net. And in the grand scheme of things we don't amount to much.
Who the hell on the couch during prime time TV is going to feel sorry for a company or stand up and object to tech-related attack ads?
No one actually cares that much. Don't kid yourself. At worst, the viewer won't even pay attention to the ads. At best, they'll find them amusing, and perhaps amusing enough to get them into an Apple Store. That's more than enough reason to keep them running and squeeze every last penny out of them. Because the only one talking boldly about Windows - what most people use - is Apple.
Actually I am not out of touch because not only do I work for one of the largest global IT companies in the world I happen to live in a country that supports Capitalism and not Socialism. Maybe that is why you can't understand this concept.
See unlike your country we rely on a strong private sector and we don't look to the government to support us. While you may hate large companies its what makes our country strong. Having a company like Microsoft fail would only mean that come company in Japan or China would take over.
Its not about feeling sorry for anyone its about understanding how important competition is and how Capitalism works. This country would be in bad shape if every large company failed because we wanted to see the little guy do well.
It?s a completely different business model with a completely different design.
For starters, those DVR appliances from cable companies don?t allow you to offload the content. if you are going to do this, TiVo is much better and easier.
Second, if you can record it on your Apple DVR then the average customer would also expect you to be able to move it between your Mac, and iDevices like you can with content had through iTS. Besides this simply not going to be allowed, most cable companies use MPEG-2, which no iDevice can play and which no Mac natively supports. Do they still that $20 MPEG-2 codec at the Apple Store for Macs?
It would be cool, and if you want it with Mac OS X there are options, but there are just to many hurdles for a company like Apple. Don?t me wrong, they have the money and capability to do, but it doesn?t look advantageous for them to pursue it. Like Blu-ray, I?m sure Apple will never add it to the AppleTV.
Then there is cost for a DVR with dual tuners than can take in 2x MPEG-2 HD streams while playing a third from the HDD or streaming from another source. And what if someone already has another DVR that they want to use. Apple would have to differentiate the line yet they want one simple internet appliance for the home theater.

None of that has anything to do with the discussion.
Maybe relatively speaking, but the entrance to the store and the line to get in look pretty big to me…
Seriously now, didn’t we get the same reports about Japan? Isn’t the iPhone is excelling better than any non-native phone in the country? Wasn’t it the best selling smartphone in japan one month? The problem with the China iPhone is that it’s not hindered and more expensive than a gray market iPhone. I surely wouldn’t buy the official version if the other one was easy to procure. We know the iPhone has ben popular in Japan as a status symbol since the original so interest is not the problem.
(I know, I’m jacking the thread a bit, but this follow up story is a bit dull.)

Here is a link with a poll about Apple attach ads back in 2008.
The iPod doesn't do well in China, either. By the end of 2007 Apple had only 7.5% of the digital music player market in China. Macs do much worse in China. Apple typically doesn't break 80,000 Mac sales a year in China. But none of these patterns really affected Apple's bottom line. Despite weakness in China, the iPod, for example, still dominates overall.

I would agree with this however I still believe adults wouldn't go out and buy a 1500 or 2000 dollar computer base on a tv ad. Also the average consumer isnt going to see an advantage in an Apple computer when a PC cost half the price. A person on this forum would but not your average consumer that only wants to surf the web and do some modest MS Office work.

Ignorant people are easily persuaded. An average person might go to Best Buy and be talked into the worst computer on the planet on price. And on the other hand an intelligent person might say to themselves, let me just buy the top of the line computer and no issues here on out.

30% drop out rate currently exists in the US. I wonder why. 75% of Oklahoma public high school students can't name your first president. Why are you reinforcing these stereotypes? Do you even know what a "socialist country" is?
Government subsidization of a particular sector of your economy is not Socialism. It's part of a mixed economy.
In Canada, for example, we have government subsidization of our health care. It's not perfect, but at least we don't need to take out a second mortgage in order to get surgery. Quite frankly, we wouldn't have it any other way. Aside from the regular gamut of programs any other Western democracy implements, Canada is just as capitalist as any other country.
There are socialist elements at work in many democracies and "Westernized" nations. Most of them have mixed economies.
Every country has elements of socialism and capitalism. For example the 'capitalists' in Japan have much more govt involvement in business than Canada.
There's not a single country in the world that is purely capitalist (even Hong Kong has some government intervention in its economy), just as there's not a single purely socialist country (even at the height of Communism, China had at least some private sector).
Most developed countries have a mixed economy. Canada at present has a right-wing government.
Canadian conservatives managed to achieve important victories in the last few decades. True-blue conservative Mike Harris won back to back majority governments in Ontario; Preston Manning created the conservative/populist Reform Party; Brian Mulroney enacted a free trade agreement.
The Liberal Party under Jean Chretien balanced the budget, and he was as Liberal as they come.
Most of the "free world" was socialist by the American conservatives' definition for the entire Cold War. It's both funny and unfortunate to see countries with long, proud histories of personal freedom and strong capitalist economies described as miserable, Stalinist prison states whenever the subject of (for example) health care comes up.

Your right you don't have to take out a second mortgage to get surgery because you would die before you ever got real treatment. This is why foreign leaders come ot the US for treatment because we have the best in the world. Thats what a true free market society provides because of inovation and competition.
And actually the national drop our rate in the US is 16% not 30% while in Canada its 18%. Not that we should be looking at the bottom.
Mr. Clow, please convince SJ/Cook to put the "I am a Mac/PC" series to bed. It was quite funny and edgy originally, but it's getting long (no pun intended) in the tooth.

You're not seeing double: I had to respond to this post again after just seeing this: http://www.nytimes.com/2009/11/02/bu...atings.html?hp
The article argues - and provides evidence - that DVRs actually, on balance, help and not hurt TV shows. Quite remarkable, but unsurprising, really.
