I've been waiting for a year for my Verizon contract to run out so I can get an iPhone. I'd rather stay in Verizon because my wife is also with Verizon and I've been happy with their service. But I'm not willing to wait forever. I've read a lot of the reports and views about whether a Verizon iPhone will happen in 2010. The more I read the less it sounds likely.
I'm looking for some advice: Should just go ahead and buy the AT&T phone? How bad is their coverage really? Or is there a reasonable chance that Verizon could have an iPhone this year?
1) Any phone you get depends first on the level of coverage you have in your usage area.
2) You?re already half way through the iPhone update cycle so I?d wait it out to get the new model next summer with more and better HW features for at least the same price. You?ll also know if the phone will be coming to another carrier.

Yup. This is the key point and why the Verizon "there's a map for that" ad's are such crap. As with the adage "all politics are local", all cell phone reception are local.
If you really wan to test out AT&T coverage in your area, go into an AT&T store and pick up one of the "pay as you go" phones (usually can get a phone and minutes for around $50) and use it for a week or so. It's the best way to see if you are going to be affected or not.

Indeed. At least wait until the upcoming event in January
