i never buy Wu 100%. cause he has a horrid record.

the rumors are that this thing is already in production. full scale production. which wouldn't be happening if they are still testing and coming up with issues.

and apple wouldn't announce something without a firm release, even if in June.

Also, perhaps the reasons it would get a June date have nada to do with the hardware but with certain contracts. contracts that could be up in June. contracts that might prohibit unlocked 3g service to the tablet. it would be easy to release after that date than to deal with post release unlocking.

AppleTV was announced in September - released in March.

    iPhone announced Jan- released June.

And what exactly is your basis for your comments?

Yes. that comes in phase 2 - where they lower the price on the original while adding a new model.

WHY would Apple even consider announcing any such product six months ahead??

Unless issues did appear at literally the last moment and/or Steve feels it necessary to make the rumor mill STFU, why not wait until the product is, um, ready?

Anyway, with any luck this analysis is vapor, and Steve will open with "Now available at the Apple Store..."

Maybe, after seeing the competition at CES, they decided that there is no hurry to produce it.

I don't remember. Why don't you just ask yourself?

I vote, carry on. Continue discussing rumored feature lists and pricing.

You're misunderstanding me. As I say, I have no problem with speculation. What I don't understand is combining opinions about price points with assumptions about functionality in order to render judgement on Apple, based on entirely unsubstantiated rumor.

Saying a slate at $1,000 is a "poor value" or that no one's going to buy "an overgrown iPod Touch" for x amount of money isn't speculation, it's just sort of pointless. It's like saying any tablet from Apple will be a huge flop because the UI will suck, or that you refuse to buy one because the battery life will be too short.

What typically happens is that AI publishes yet another rumor, and some people react as if it were a press release from Apple, complete with indignation and predictions of doom. That just strikes me as silly and overboard.

Well, I've done some analysis of all of the rumours and existing data available, and find that 65% of romours will be incorrect, 60% of 'market analysts' will be incorrect and that the product Apple is launching on January 27th is a highly eco friendly version of it's iPhone and iPod ranges featuring a wind-up mechanism.

Magnifying glasses will be free issued to make the screen appear to be between 10 and 11 inches depending on the viewing point of the user.

A new super-eco friendly version of the iPhone OS will also be launched which will limit users to a maxmum of 10 minutes use per day, extending battery life into weeks.

I have talked to someone, who knows someone whose brother is the husband of a suppliers chairmans daughter. He has it on good authority that all Apple products will re-launch over the next 6 months with Bamboo forming the main housings and that the screens will be made of a new material that bio-degrades after a 3 year timespan has elapsed.

Further more, Apple has apparently developed new manufacturing processes which use no energy and requires no manpower to complete the manufacturing process.

Finally, a major analyst has estimated that Apple will sell $6B worth of iPed womens nail extensions with capacitive touch screen working. This follows a series of complaints that it is difficult to operate an iPod Touch and iPhone's with long nails.

"The Recession Is Over" is today's "Mission Accomplished".

The reality on the street speaks for itself, regardless of how the government tries to spin things.

As for the rumored iThing? Again, the timing, pricing, and delay don't make sense. But Steve has surprised us before.

$999 is way too high. My prediction: $649 for slower model, $799 for faster model with 3G/4G free. If 3G/4G is not free then I expect a 2 year contract with ATT and something like a $499 price tag for the subsidized version, $649 for unsubsidized.

Prediction: Either way this will be a netbook, ereader, newspaper reader, gaming machine, and mobile movie player (which you can use on long flights much better then an iPhone). The battery life would have to be at least 7 hours. No physical keyboard obviously, and no removable battery. It will have the dual core PI Semi chip inside and run on iPhone OS 4.0. It will have full exchange integration and run a mobile version of iWork, which would be fully compatible with MS Office 2007. It will have a mag safe charger, but also the ipod proprietary jack.

That is all I can think of, so we'll see if any of my predictions will come true on 27th.

I agree to an extent but virtually everyone has taken a hit in this economy in one form or another. It isn't just those who lost their homes or their jobs. It's also recent graduates and some taking lesser wages. Both Adobe and MS are laying off people left and right as well many other companies in the tech field. It isn't just the poor who are losing their jobs.

To date, under Jobs, this is the first device that Apple has intended to replace nothing in your life. I don't suddenly see Apple being successful in this area of 'tweener devices when it has never been successful. From all rumors, the primary reason for buying this is gadget lust.

$999 is rather cheap! I was ready to pay more.

    Doesn't matter! I'll buy it!
