You are joking right "finally catching up", finally, really? I am guessing you don't understand product cycles and manufacturing, maybe Steve miss-placed his magic wand?
(sorry had to use the term magic)
g3pro, bless his heart, is working from the large type book of snark, with pictures, so he doesn't have a lot that's new to say. I think this is about the fifth time for that particular little leaden dig.
It is true. People have cameras to video conference on their computers but only a very small percentage actually ever use them. Talking on the phone is quicker, easier and generally more efficient.

Sorry, now it's in orange, which doesn't rhyme with anything. Therefore: false.

Damn you addabox! 3 seconds... but I typed more
There are already phones with forward-facing cameras for video conferencing.
I understand product cycle. Apple's upcoming product cycle is rumored to integrate a feature that has been available for other phones.

Excuse me, do you mean to say that Apple invented the front-facing camera? Or is it merely adding a feature that is already available in other phones?
I hope they don't call it iPhone HD - first cause of zune, second cause of App HD is used for iPad now.
Other then that front facing cam. would help the iphone to stay competitive against phones like HTC Evo 4G, which looks hella appealing (hardware side at least). It would also be nice to see a design update, not that the current iPhone will ever look bad (its basically just the screen, not much you can do about that) but the design is starting to look stale.
Firstly; you're right. Apple would never use the moniker of "HD" The most overused, un-Apple name ever.
Second; this is all crap. Unsubstantiated rumors upon rumors.
I hope to god for your sakes that Apple finally adds a screen worth a damn. They need to get rid of the atrocious LCD and finally get a decent display like AMOLED or even Super AMOLED.
There are already phones with forward-facing cameras for video conferencing.
There were also phones with cut and paste. Until Apple perfected it.
If the iPhone is destined to have a front-facing camera for video conferencing, it'll be the most usable, best-looking implementation anyone's ever seen.
On the other hand, we've (educational institution) been testing the iPhone with the mobile Adobe Connect Pro app and while it works great for what it's got, it doesn't support two way video conferencing that can be done on a laptop, desktop, etc. If a forward facing camera were added and two way video supported, then the opportunity to do what we now do with our non-mobile devices would be opened up....Live mobile delivery of our courses would then become a much richer experience. Go Apple!

Apple perfected cut and paste? For the iPhone, Apple merely copied the implementation from phones that have long had the feature before. Cut and paste has been around for decades for crying out loud. Apple perfected cut and paste?
A large screen business tablet is more conducive to video conferencing (like the way a laptop is) than a phone is.
It's easier to hold a phone in front of you than a tablet, not that video conferencing is a needed feature on either. I would expect some camera attachments for the iPad for the few that need it though.
Adding to an earlier report of Apple's forthcoming next-generation iPhone, Daring Fireball on Monday claimed Apple's new handset will feature a custom A4 processor, 960x640 double-resolution display, and a second front-facing camera.
Oh and it'll come with a Verizon contract - don't forget that standard rumor - it's going to come with Verizon sprinkles and pink unicorns that all sing the praises of Verizon ... and then gallop as fast as possible to short the stock on the day of the rumor.
Yeah. First thing I did before even reading the article was go to Gruber's site and he doesn't actually claim anything at all. This kind of "imaginative" loose reporting is exactly how stupid rumours get started.

You can't be serious.
Other implementations are all inferior to the iPhone's, especially when it comes to selecting text.
This is actually something that was good enough for Apple to actually show off in an ad. And it's only cut and paste.
Now, just for gits and shiggles, throw in the Pastebot app and you've truly got a cut and paste system that stands way above the rest.

It's nice to see Apple finally catching up with the competition.
Thats because Apple is lapping their competition again--
Video-calls are a gimmick.
Good lord, it's in blue so it must be true.
