I agree with rob55. It's just product placement. Every company does it. Including Apple.... in other shows as well. Even shows like CSI monitors in labs, iPhones for field agents, Raj's laptop in The Big Bang Theory, etc. I'm not going to list all the shows.
You just need to pay more attention. This time around they just did it more obviously. Just like when Steven Colbert pulled one out on stage.
True. They're constantly using MacBooks, MacBook Pros and Cinema Displays on House. They're even mentioned in the credits if I recall. Even saw Jeremy Clarkson praising his iPhone on an episode of Top Gear last night.
Jeez, a little product placement and now Apple is sleazy and low rent? So Motorola must be satan incarnate for the giant logo on the mic of every headset of every head coach in the NFL? Relax man, it'll do you some good.
Wow. did you ever miss-read.
1) The most widely product-placed products in movies and TV of any company I can think of; almost always in, (lets just say) upper scale settings. That scene, however (show I've never heard of), was just friggin TACKY. The scene was tacky. The acting was tacky. It made the iPad look really lame.
2) This has absolutely nothing to do with any company putting their own logo on their own product, or having it seen on TV (not sure where you were even going with that?)

Funny thing is, I don't watch the show either. Just the little clip on Youtube.

Come on, those Motorola logos are everywhere when you watch football games (in the states I mean). Just like how AT&T used to put a giant version of their logo on the mouthpiece of telephones that movie characters would talk on. Just another type of product (or service) placement.
Yeah, maybe I did miss-read. Distracted, it's almost quitting time.

Again, what I was saying was; There is smart, tasteful, even inventive, product placement. Something Apple has particularly excelled at (no surprise)
Then there is garbage: That scene could have just been a commercial for the new McDonalds Slappy Meal.
Not haten' on anything except bad TV with a work of art shoved inside of it.
1) Last week 4.9 million people watched Modern Family.
2) There are plenty of shows that don't interest me, but I wouldn't call them horrible because I have no interest in them. Do you have any reasoning why no one should enjoy it?
3) If you can only see the iPad as "a larger iPod Touch" then it's no wonder you don't understand how others could find it useful and why you amazed by reports of actual sales.
4) I think your narrow view of technology and television shows may be tied to a root cause.
Millions of people buy Windows PC's and voted for the Nazi's - you can't trust people!
I think it's funny when I am watching a show and they are using an iPhone and while talking on it, you see the icons. At least represent how the phone works properly.
My wife and I watched the show last night. Now she calls me Phil.
And NO, she will never stand in line at an Apple Store even if they gave it away for free. But she would for a shovel.
I watched the show last night with my girlfriend, and I was laughing hysterically at Phil and his iPad drama. My girlfriend turned to me with an unenthusiastic look on her face and shortly said, "thats you."

P.S., The guys at Hooray have already got business since last night. Going to get a lot more.
Unfortunately, now we are going to hear from the trolls how Apple is killing the birthday cake business.
Who watches Modern Family? That show is terrible! I still don't understand why people are excited about a larger iPod Touch. I would not stand in line for one either. I don't even see netbooks in use anywhere either, so it is amazing they report so many sales of those devices.
Modern Family is the biggest new comedy of the year, gets about 10M viewers per week and has one of the highest advertising demographic ratings in TV (18-49 year olds).
As for the large iTouch critique... that ship of fools has sailed - think of something else... quick
Does it seem oddly coincident to anyone else that the CrunchPad tablet PC was officially, publicly renamed JooJoo on December 7, 2009; then on Jan. 26 at MWSF, Apple shows a simple video featuring several Apple executives strangely waxing on about how the iPad is "magical", when the iPhone had already exhibited a superset of "magical" features for 3 years? I found the simultaneous wide-eyed gaze from Ives particularly disturbing.

Nice post regarding JooJoo. I'm someone who's interested in "conspiracy theories" I find it curious too on a couple different accounts. Actually your post is the first place where I was informed of JooJoo. So you're saying that the CrunchPad was renamed to JooJoo and that it's odd because this was just before the announcement of the iPad right? You're insinuating that the powers that be at Apple also built JooJoo right? From what I can see the devices are identical except for the finish. The JooJoo actually looks nicer. I'm with you on this for sure.
Moving on to geopolitical conspiracies as related to corporations I am someone that believes that all corporations no matter how benevolent they appear, are controlled by the same people or those people have dominion over the owners of those corporations. These are people who's spare change equals the value of corporations like Apple. 200 billion to these people is chump change. Bill Gates or whoever is the flavour of the month is never the richest man on the planet. Those people will never appear in public.
I sometimes think about how the popular Apple culture is in fact globally permeating, equipping everyone with devices with wireless frequencies over acceptable levels and how in a very short time almost everyone will have one of these devices that can also be used for global tracking and mind control via software or advertising or even simply just the intention to make everyone a part of a cult that can be easily influenced in the future via new technologies. By cult I mean indoctrinated group of civilians, us the public.
I can easily link, in my mind, these fast happenings with the agenda and paradigm that those few most powerful families deal out. I can't help but associate things like population and mind control to even the coolest of companies like Apple.

No conspiracy IMHO. The iPad and JooJoo look significantly different to me. The JooJoo has some nice features the iPad lacks and vice versa. I have no question they were independently developed (not counting whatever patents may have been abused).
What I meant to suggest is that Apple knew far enough in advance of MWSF that the CrunchPad's public name would be JooJoo that they could try to undercut JooJoo's ability to use the obvious "magical" theme for advertising.

I disagree. Same tech = same hands essentially. Same controlling groups all want to disperse devices to masses that can assist in controlling the masses. Those same people also love to use African, Egyptian etc titles because they were originally sun worshippers. And they love to use those type of names in modern times because their goal is to control the "useless eaters" and they find that using those names is ironical, fun and insulting. Pretty soon every single person in the G7/8 will have either an iPhone or something similar. Apple is the coolest company on the planet who also happens to be part of this unfortunately.
Yes I'm still buying an iPad. But only because I hate carrying around a laptop and the iPad is compatible with my other gear.
I have agree with success here. While what you speculate may be true, I think it's unlikely they read JooJoo, thought magic and then said, "hey, why didn't we think of that, we should use that." It seems to me that Apple, and possibly even Jobs, used that to describe the iPad internally long before even the CrunchPad was announced.
I'm still wondered how Pogue got 12hours of video on a 10" device weighing 1.5lbs with an IPS display. Did Apple ever see the JooJoo as a threat to their business. It seems pretty clear that the whole thing was destined to fail.
PS: Apple is the largest shareholder of Disney. *cough* The Magic Kingdom *cough* Perhaps Apple planned this all along.
I guess we'll just have to see how magical the iPad is, compared to the iPhone, in order to get a better understanding of how the magical advertising theme came to be and why it was not used by Apple before. Could be the CrunchPad developers felt the same magic Apple's did and both groups took different approaches to using the magic theme. I just wouldn't put it past Jobs to undercut a nascent competitor. Not in the sense of "Gosh, I wish we had thought of that!" but in the sense of "Let's kill all thoughts they had of using a magical theme by doing it first."
I also believe success confuses the interconnectedness of people, societies, ideas, etc. for conspiracy.

Steve leveraging his majority shareholder position in Disney no doubt.
Let's not forget him leveraging his position when it came to healthcare!

Perhaps in the context of the entire program, these scenes didn't seem so patently materialistic. My interest is not piqued to find out, however.

Alright all you newbie whippersnappers
Here is what is what Apple is shooting for with that particular product placement.
Maybe they should just redo these commercials for the iPad.
