Actually, after testing the others, the conclusion is that they didn't "switch to html5", they just made ipad versions, different than the main one. Most notably, nytimes still shows the famous missing plugin logo instead of videos in html5. Sucks. Also, for the ones that did work on iphone, the look and feel is much more basic than the desktop version.
Yeah, I noticed this too -- if iPad and iPhone use the same browser, why do the non-mobile versions of cnn.com and vimeo.com still show broken plugin icons where the videos should be? Are they sniffing the user agent and only serving up HTML5 to iPad browsers? WTF?

Why don't you first explain to us why Android OS, which predates the public unveiling of the iPhone OS, still doesn't have Flash?
