Apple should create a different "I'm A Mac. I'm a PC" commercial, only Apple should have some big, bald guy aka the Fake Steve Ballmer, come out grunting, wearing a sweaty blue dress shirt, pushing a mammoth glass table to where a man is standing in the shadows and says "Surface!"

The man in the shadows walks out into the light and it is the Fake Steve Jobs, hired by the REAL Steve Jobs, to portray Jobs and Apple, and the fake Steve takes a Sledge Hammer to the glass table and smashes the "Surface" to bits. The fake Steve then bends down and amongst the glass shards, picks up something. He stands erect, device in hand, turns to the fake Steve Ballmer and says "iPad!"...

Kind of a take on the Hardees restaurant commercial about the Thick Burger and the little Thick burger...

Makes one wonder if the almighty dollar would convince the fake Jobs to do it now that he has ditched his iPhone for an Android device, tho... I guess the fake Steve Jobs wouldn't be "original" until he had a fake iPhone in hand! Enjoy your Droid, fake Steve!

I've had the same thing happen with my iPhone and pro audio test app. I bunch of my audio minded friends switched phones and carriers just so they could buy AudioTools, now available for the iPad.

I can personally count 7 (3 of whom already bought/ordered, 4 on the verge of deciding).

Does anyone have a link to (or knowledge on) what the data deals for 3G with the local carriers are, in the various countries in which there has been a rollout?

And, any information on whether one can simply purchase/insert a local micro-SIM when traveling?

My iMac has one pwr cable coming out the back, my keyboard and mouse are both BT....my iPhone dock is by my beside to recharge and I update it with my mac maybe once a week. My MobileMe has no cables and along with DropBox does a good job keeping everything in Sync!

I have motorola BT headphones for running with my Nike+ and iPhone...I hate the wired headphones.

My AppleTV has only two cables coming out the back connected to my large flat screen TV replaced all my 'wired' stereo system! I keep the slide show to see all my photos and usually just have one of the internet radio stations playing some light jazz in the background! It meets my music needs and photo needs!

When I get my iPad I want to place in my living room in its stand up dock and have it showing the very elegant origami slide show errr with one pwr cable coming out the back!

    Best

This may be heresy to some here, but with all of the room inside this device, I would have preferred Apple put the USB connecter in the case instead of requiring us to buy one in the Photo Connection kit. In addition, since they're providing an SD adapter as well, they should have included that also. The small additional cost would have been absorbed by the profits they're making, and would have made a lot of people happier.

Frankly, I think it's remiss of them to not have done so. Maybe they think that would depreciate the 30 pin connector and allow docks they don't want to have, but I think it's an unnecessary restriction.

But if you had no mobile device at all... Of course, being in school, you might want the added ports for added functionality of a 13", 15", or 17" laptop, but if you were done with school and had no mobile device and already had a desktop and just wanted to go mobile with a device with a slightly bigger screen then todays smartphone, which way would you go? MacBook/MBP or iPad? Or which way anyone would go for that matter?... \

iPad looks pretty cool. I just wish I could figure out why I need one. I'm ok with the limitations of my iPhone because I need a phone and the extra features are really handy, but I already have an iMac, a MBP and a Mac Pro. iPad seems too limited to fit my computing needs. If I could do actual IT or web site maintenance then it might be useful on the road, but if it is just for couch surfing or reading in bed, I don't need it.

Too much to look up all of those plans. But a number of carriers in the various countries said that they had, or would be offering plans with the proper sims. All carriers in the UK announced that, as an example.

I agree wholeheartedly that only the 30-pin is an unnecessary restriction.

There is enough real estate there for Apple to have added USB.

I understand the simplicity they wanted the device to have initially, but I do really, really want a USB port for even just music/document/photo transfer. Everyone carries around a USB, every computer has one, and the interface could be just like the photo import interface, with the capabilities of the mail program to open, say, a document in Pages, GoodReader, or PrintCentral. I don't think it would be difficult or that complex for the consumer at all.

    I found this: http://gigaom.com/2010/05/10/ipad-data-plan-guide/

Outstanding, if correct! (Except for Japan).

That is what I dislike about iPhone OS. Apple artificially restricts the capabilities of the device to protect the end user from having to worry about a filesystem. I wish it had a pro user mode that was difficult to activate but allowed power users to manage the device as they see fit. Sort of like legal jailbreaking.

already i've seen multiple sales people using them in their kiosks to demonstrate and show photos of products and demo videos. this device along with Square is a major win for small businesses.

For the trolls that's easy. Everybody is a fanboy now. Notice how they've started calling the general public "ignorant morons" as the reason Apple's products are selling well. They can't understand why a device they have declared an "Epic Fail" because of their favorite deal killing missing feature has sold two million units in two months so, obviously, it must be the stupid buying public. They actually have no other options left to explain the success. And they come up with a reason so they can rationalize it in their screwed up minds. But the cognitive dissonance must really hurt. After all for years they have touted Window's market share as proof that it is a superior product. Now they have to deal with the fact that a product they despise has a dominant market share. Their market share mantra has turned around and bitten them in the butt. A troll's mind is scrambled by the thought. That's why we see the sputtering nonsense these days.

I'm glad that the iPad has been such a success. It is ushering in a new era of small personal computers with all the features most people need without all the overkill in the processors that power users need.

In a way the success of it might slow the addition of new hardware features such as a card reader or USB port. It would be the excuse Apple could use to say that people really like it just as it is therefore it doesn't need to change.

I too want a file system and either an SD card slot or USB port. Every iPad will eventually get full of data. It would be great if owners could just carry around data sticks or cards with movies or other types of files to just plug into the iPad.

The iPad probably didn't come with these features because it gave Apple a reason to have multiple storage capacities available at much higher price points. Otherwise too many people would just choose the lowest capacity version of WiFi or 3G and carry their data on SD cards. That's what I'll be doing with whatever tablet I buy.

Since Android is a decent OS with apps too, Google in partnership with a manufacturer might make a great tablet within a year. HP and Palm together could also make an equally stunning device and you can bet it would have external connectors for USB or a card reader.
