Have you visited that site Noah? How does that stuff sound to you? Does Pastor Harry sound like a crackpot? Or does some of what he says make sense? I do have to agree with him on the Falwell and Roberts stuff. False Prophets or not, those guys are bad. Enquiring minds want to know.

I have not visited that site, and after looking at it I do not feel I have missed much. That guy is putting prophecies of Nostradamous right up with scripture. Sorry, but he gets a crackpot vote in my book.
As far as Falwell and Roberts, I don't watch them and cannot give you my impression. Sorry.
I read somewhere that the abomination represents the UN...

I don't think so. The UN could be represented by the one world government that is prophesied about, but I think it will even go a step further than that. Not sure how, but for the most part the UN is toothless. It will have to much more powerful for it to be what was spoken of.
The Abomination that causes desolation will be an act rather than a person I think. I believe that it will be carried out by the Antichrist where he defiles the new Temple is a very profane way. Which brings us to the next point. When you hear that Israel is building a new temple, then you will know that you are living in the end times, or very close to it. I have not heard of this happening yet...

Robertson and Falwell are only the two most influential "Christians" in the US. Robertson especially has an extremely powerful influence on the social policies of this administration. It's almost impossible not to be aware of his pull and media access. He also happens to be a pathological hatemonger, which is completely at odds with Jesus' teachings.

They may be high profile, but the most influential? If they are so influential why have I, a decidedly open Christian, not every heard them speak or cared to? Billy Graham is much more influential then either of them in my opinion. Also, calling then a hatemonger does not necessarily make it so. No one has pointed me to anything that shows them to be hatemongers, just general opinions stating so. However, that does not mean that they are not, just that it has not been show to me to be conclusively so.
When you hear that Israel is building a new temple, then you will know that you are living in the end times, or very close to it. I have not heard of this happening yet...

Oh, they are definitely talking about it.
Noah, have you read the "Christ Clone" books? I highly recommend them if you're into this sort of thing. It sounds weird because of the "clone" talk, but apparently it follows biblical prophecies very closely. Gave me the creeps, anyway.

I have read a few books similar, but not those. The Left Behind series is quite good in book form (the movie was really bad, it was sad how they mangled it). I also read a book about the new anti-christ being cloned from a certain man with a final plan... Can't recall the name of the book though.
The only thing about these books is, they are still only fiction. Entertaining, chilling, and above all only fiction.
We have heard form quite a few people in this thread, but not all have said how they think the end of the world will come about. C'mon now, you know you have a thought about it. Let me, and others, know what you think.
(If you can't tell this is something that I have gained a huge interest in lately.)
36 But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father alone. 37 For the coming of the Son of Man will be just like the days of Noah. 38 For as in those days before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, 39 and they did not understand until the flood came and took them all away; so will the coming of the Son of Man be... Therefore be on the alert, for you do not know which day your Lord is coming. 43 But be sure of this, that if the head of the house had known at what time of the night the thief was coming, he would have been on the alert and would not have allowed his house to be broken into. 44 For this reason you also must be ready; for the Son of Man is coming at an hour when you do not think He will. -- Matthew 24:36-39, 43-44 (NASB)

Thanks for the repeat. I posted that one already.
The actual topic is though, not when is the world going to end, although it seems to be slipping that way. It is, how do you feel it will all end? Cast your vote. Flaming meteors? Man made doomsday device? Return of Disco? Be heard!
In response to the last part of your post, how the world will be better for it. How so? Are people really that bad? Do you think that you are one who the earth would be better without?
No, I do not believe the world will end in my lifetime. Not because I don't believe in the possibility of it happening, but more so because I can't concieve of it happening anymore than the Romans could concieve that their empire would be ended by hoards of Visigoths rampaging through their streets.
As others have mentioned, the Earth will be destroyed when the sun becomes a red giant and consumes the planet.
Although I do acknowledge the possibility of the complete extinction of humanity before the sun consumes the Earth, I again find it difficult to concieve of it actually happening. Humans have proven to be a resilient and adaptable species, able to survive and even thrive in just about every climate this planet has to offer. I believe humans, as a race, could even survive a gobal nuclear holocost.
A far more likely end of the world scenario would be the collapse of civilization as we know it today. The collapse of civilization would most likely result from a man-made cause, or a natural disaster precipitated by a man made event (Shifting weather patterns caused by global warming resulting in massive crop failure, global famine, wars to acquire or protect scarce food supplies which include limited nuclear exchanges, etc., etc). This would be, I think, more likely than a pure, natural catastrophic event such as a meteor or the global eruption of super volcanoes.
If civilization does collapse, I believe it will be with a "whimper," not a "bang." People will not realize it is happening until it has already happened.

Yes, people are really that bad. Myself included.

Interesting. Brutal honesty. I hope to never think of myself as that horrible. I mean sure, I make some major mistakes, but enough to warrant wishing that I was never born to this planet? Not that bad...

Nice post! You laid it all out very plainly. I liked your last statement and feel that this is something that I can both agree with, and disagree with at the same time.
I don't think that civilization will collapse. But I do think that when what is to come comes, those that are in it for the most part will have little or no idea until it is too late. When that happens is anyones guess however.
I am still working on my prediction as to how the world will end, I have mostly at this point been reading all the other posts and answering the ones that interest me the most. Anyone else care to weigh in on this heady subject? You turn to play prophet and tell the world how the world will end as you see it.
[quote] Back to the topic: Supposedly there is an asteroid scheduled to hit earth in the year 2880.

I heard this would occur in 2028 on the news then the next day NASA reported their calculation was a little off and it would actually miss the earth. I wonder?
Science shows there was an ice age in which the Dinosaurs perished from the earth. Science shows that a large meteor hit the earth in Arizona. Science also suggests that the two could have been related. What's to say that can't happen again Only substitute humans.
I don't believe God intended us to know when the end wil come therefore I try not to worry about it. I know eventually my world will end anyway so I just try to do the best I can while I'm here. Really thats all you can do.

Post 9-11 answer: some unimaginably evil person with extremely powerful nuclear bombs set in strategic places across the globe and carefully timed.
It will happen, and when we kill ourselves, the Earth will be all the better for it. In the meantime...
