I hope you never need a heart or kidney transplant. Pretty sure you would never go for that seeing as how you can't take it for a test drive first.
DOH... I did it yet again. Must resist urge to feed troll.
Yum. Food. Hopefully its banh mi with mushrooms. You can feed me as long as you want but I ain't cutting my bright pointy hair... Not cutting my hair for you or Doc Holliday.
Love how happy these people are having spent a whole day getting a pre-order in...for a phone!?!, these are probably people that already own a 3GS, and a 3G before that, and the other one before that...talk about feeding a troll...sheesh
How many people whining about not getting their phone on launch day have had a 3GS less than a year?
A scene from Redmond, the famous appleinsider adaptation of the great film Tombstone:
Solipsism: And you must be Free. Look, Dick, Freethinker. The deadliest forum pistoleer since Tekstud, they say. What do you think, Dick? Should I hate him?
Dick Applebaum: You don't even know him.
Solipsism: Yes, but there's just something about him. Something around the carpals, I don't know, reminds me of... Tekstud. No. I'm sure of it, I hate him.
Rot'nApple: [to Freethinker] He's posting-drunk.
Solipsism: In internet veritas.
Freethinker: Age quod agis.
Solipsism: Credat Judaeus apella, non ego.
Freethinker: [pats his mouse] Eventus stultorum magister.
Solipsism: [gives a Cheshire cat smile icon] In pace requiescat.
AppDev:Come on boys. We don't want any trouble in here. Not in any language.
Solipsism: Evidently Mr. Freethinker is a rational man. Now I really hate him.
Bravo, bravo. Such a great post! Funny, I just got Tombstone on Blu-ray yesterday for only $12.99.
I'm kinda surprised people seem to be taking the removal of the 'unlimited' (not really) data plan and replacing it with a 2G plan. Maybe it's me but even if I were to 'almost always' fly in under the 2GB cap ... I'd have that one month that would sneak up on me and I'd be zonked with an insane overage fee.
'Unlimited' while clearly an inaccurate term, has a certain level of comfort and taking it away (I would have though) would have given many iPhone customers pause.
I wonder this... How many of that 600k are NEW customers?
Anyone know anything (official or otherwise)?
Several of us have been checking our usage here ever since one of our friends (heavy heavy user) reported he'd only topped 200meg 1 month of 6. Because we are connected to wifi the vast majority of the time we are doing anything more than e-mail or text, we all discovered we fall way short of even the 200meg. Many of the iPhone users I know are now re-evaluating whether they even need a 2gig plan, but are also quite happy that they'll be saving an extra $60 per year that was going towards data they weren't even remotely coming close to using.
Also, I hate this whole unlimited term being thrown around, it really went from 5gig to 2gig. For those of us who don't need to pay for so much data it is to our advantage for heavy users to have to pay for their usage. Right now I foot the bill for their usage and the network suffers under their weight. So I say cap it, people should expect to have to pay more to get more and it's not like they don't have the option to actively up their plan if they need more.
Am I the only one who thinks this is total bullshit?
"far higher than we anticipated?"
Had I read "Apple deliberately short-stocked their order system anticipating a crash and subsequent tremendous amount of media hype as a result, sending people in droves to the brick and mortar stores on release day..."
I could at least lean back and say "well done, Apple..."
But this bullshit? Come on. Just don't LIE to me, for fuck's sake...
What tales of shortages forced people to line up in droves just to pre-order the iPhone? Get a grip, Apple doesn't need to create demand for this device.

I for one don't care which scenario is correct and really don't really care what you think.

Hi excuse me, someone was just looking for you over at gizmodo, they miss you.
Blind faith is one of the most exploitable features corporations and governments see in the human race. Use your brains and never trust anything - not your priest, not your president and certainly not a profit driven corporation that enslaves its workforce worldwide.
You're missing the logic system that the iPhone buyers are using...
I've been using the Macintosh since 1985 and used it as a work computer since 1989. I've bought numerous Apple towers, "pizza boxes", iPods, iMacs, Routers, Printers and now the iPad and a couple of iPhones. My experience with Apple is in the 98 - 100% satisfaction range...
It's only logical that a person like me would buy the new iPhone (if I needed one) and was willing to live within the limitations of the new iPhone (FaceTime between iPhones only... Apps thru AppStore only... etc.).
I do not feel that I could in any way be duped or would be using blind trust in a "profit driven corporation that enslaves its (sic) workforce worldwide." Having said this... what is with the Socialist Bullshit about the enslaved workforce??? I've had years of experience with this particular "profit driven corporation" and I don't, in any way, concur with the sentiment that they enslave anyone.
Where, oh, where are the articles from the pundits explaining how this is a bad thing and how every other phone manufacturer is actually doing better than Apple?
C'mon!
Dvorak?
Thurott?
Anybody?
How many will return their iPhone 4 when they discover they live and work in a poor coverage area and can't make a call? Will we ever see those numbers?
Probably not because the AT&T network is great according to Jobs, and even if it's not, we don't need to make phone calls anyway.
By the way, that "apple is doomed" joke gets funnier every time. Let me try it:
hey! Apple is doomed! Can I get a "totally agree" or a "spot on??"
Massive returns? I doubt it... because I suspect many of these early adopters are iPhone users. I could be 'out of the loop' but I don't know how many 'new to the iPhone' people would have put up with the ordering problems. Again, I could be wrong, but I think the new people will, in fact, visit their local Apple Store... look at it -- play with it a bit -- and then if they buy it and have poor service in their area, they'll return it.
I feel fortunate that I have very sable & good reception in my part of the Chicago area.

Ah - the depth and intensity of your feelings are certainly understandable. Do we take it that you never recovered from bending over one too many times in front of clergy?
C'mon! You know that tech tends to increase in price as it gets smaller. You know the Phone's display has 78% of the number of pixels the iPad's display has while being 1/8 the size.
The 3GS sure as heck doesn't, which is the model that costs as much as an iPad Wi-Fi with twice the memory.

Same for me. I happily signed up for the 'unlimited' plan on my iPhone 3G. When Apple changed the pricing, I checked my data usage history and i only exceeded 200 MB twice in the past year. Even paying the overage for those two months, the 200 MB plan will save me a ton of money. I'm guessing that as we move forward, I won't even go over 200 since I have my iPad for email (with the unlimited plan).

Yup. I don't know if people realize how little of their 3G data plan they actually use, what with most being on a wi-fi network 95% of the time. Which honestly makes AT&Ts network woes all the more laughable; people are only using their network about 5% of the time. I'm thrilled that I'm going to be able to cut my data costs in half with the 200MB for $15 plan, but they should really be giving us at least 400MB for $15; $10 would be more reasonable for 200MB, or better still stop charging for text messages and roll those kb into our data plans.
Lost in all this iPhone 4 hype is the fact that Apple is now selling unlocked iPhones in Canada.
Eh? That was available in NZ (likely Australia) from 3Gs introduction, maybe even before.
The whole enterprise was a bit clumsy, though... since Vodafone NZ was official Apple distributor in NZ, if you have purchased iPhone in shop, you'd have to give them working Vodafone SIM card and they'd install it for you... but after that you could remove it and put any other compatible card (which both my wife and I were doing overseas)... but if you decided to purchase on-line, there were no demands regarding SIM card.
I'm surprised it took so long for Canada. How's iPhone being sold elsewhere?
Comments
Wow 600,000 for one out of two colours and in only 5 of the 87 countries.
And people wonder how come I think Apple will sell > 8 million before December.
Note that it's 14 days for all Apple products, expect the iPhone which is 30 days regardless where you bought it.
When I originally bought my 3G in July of '08, it was 14 days to return the phone. I didn't realize they had changed that policy.

BTW, June is a great month for Futurama fans. The series starts backup with all new episodes on Comedy Central starting on June 24th.
Awesome, that's great news. Was so disappointed when they took it off the air.

Hey, congrats! And welcome to being a citizen of the most imperfect, frustrating and wonderful country on the planet.
Like the rest of us US Citizens, you have the obligation to make it better!
,
Very nicely put.
One more thing... Like the rest of us you unfortunately have to suffer thru what is hopefully only another 2.5 years of the Obama administration.
Sorry, I just couldn't resist.
