Apple can afford to underpay and still acquire/retain talent because many of those people want to work for Apple (as opposed to any other company) so much that they just settle for the lower income. Some of these people just want to be able to say they work for Apple when asked and being able to do so is worth whatever the delta is between what they're paid working for Apple versus whatever greater amount they could get paid working for a company that's not Apple.

You can't assure anyone, because you have no idea what Apple pays for positions.

That's like when people post "Trust me, it's xyz (or whatever)".

    Why should we trust them?

Generally, it would be because the guy has a good record in posting. Not perfect, but pretty good. But otherwise, no.

Even that is too kind. A seven day straight Barney marathon sounds about right.

Nice Dick Tracy quote but in the real world crime too often does pay.

Guys, you want to know where the real Wild West is? It's Asia. This article relates to stuff that has actually been discovered. There's a heck of a lot more shenanigans going on.

    Yeeee Haaar!

He was supposedly selling "secrets" to manufacturers, but other sites are reporting that the manufacturers were case manufacturers? What possible "secrets" could be passed to a case manufacturer that would allow them to make a better deal with Apple when they were negotiating their contract? Sounds bogus to me.

It makes far more sense if he was leaking actual product info as in he was the source of all the recent leaks.

Also, if he supposedly made a million bucks doing this over the course of it, he was seriously underpaid. What kind of a moron ruins their whole life for anything under a few million? He would have been getting only a few tens of thousands per leak it seems. That's not enough to do such a serious crime and possibly (like this guy) lose everything over.

Stupid is as stupid does I guess.

A couple things should come of this. Leaks will drop a bit because this leak has been plugged, although the secrets look they were sold to other tech companies not to the press. And we?ll see Apple tighten up security even more, perhaps even going to the extreme (read: extreme for Apple.).

Apple needs to change managers more often to prevent this sort of thing from happening.

Maybe a lot of people ... but not everyone.

Secondly, I'm guessing this action was started with less than a payoff of a million dollars .... after all, the event took place over a fairly long period of time, so the first payoff might have been for a sum considerably less ... perhaps only 100s of dollars. .... still not right, in my book, at any price. One, at the end of the day, has to be able to look at themselves in the mirror, don't you think? ... just sayin'

Except those who take the few minutes to think long and hard about what they are doing, or thinking of doing.

i was in a positions on several occasions to pass along some drugs and I passed. When this was happening, I was handed an envelope with $1.000's of dollars in it (many thousands). All I had to do was leave my truck unlock and someone was going to put a package in the back. I was then going to make my regular deliveries and someone would take the package off of the truck. So I would have never touched the stuff, but was offered a ton of cash to do this.

I sit down and look at the money, and then thought about my wife and kids, my life, my business and I said "No"!

They didn't give up. A short while later I was offered even MORE money (yes the envelope was MUCH bigger). One more time I said thanks but no!

Yes I offered wonder if I would have been caught, and even if so, what would I be charged with, and what did that mean ? 3 to 5!

A year or so later, many of the people involved in this operation were busted, and all started squealing on each other, mothers, brothers, fathers, uncles ? 3-10!

It's a interesting part of my life, and one I'm proud of.

Oh, I wanted the money, and heaven knows I could have used it, but it wouldn't have been enough to get my family through for ? 3-5!

Giving circuit board/component dimensions to interested suppliers IS products info. "Compensation" for advance product information has been standard practice in Asian nations for decades.

Only the court has to view a suspect as innocent until proven guilty. You and I can think and say anything we want about his guilt.

No, the angry and self-righteous mob never does.

Anyways, I have no doubt he will be proven guilty, but I have doubts about the extent of his actions. And it doesn't seem that Apple was harmed in any significant way, rather he may have been giving some suppliers a competitive edge against other suppliers.

I hope he gets the maximum. No deals with the government should be accepted.

The max for him will prolly be a fine of a few thousand dollars and 5 years probation.

He will quickly get a job repping for the Asian companies he was compensated by, prolly making more money than he was at Apple.

We love the leaks but we hate the leakers. That's why we read AI instead of the sites that actually talk to the leakers and get first-hand info. AI just takes the stuff that the first-hand sites report, and repeats it. That way, we get all the leaks while not having to deal with the leakers.

I don't believe you. Unless those were amateurs, they would have picked a trucker who was in no position to refuse them. And if they picked you, they would have engineered things so that saying NO was a very, very difficult thing to do - much more difficult than saying yes.

This story does not have any ring of truth to it. I know people who got caught up with Whitey Bulger in Southie - they were not given a yes/no choice. They were given a yes/move away/die choice.

Sorry. You sound like a frustrated screen writer who needs to do more research.

True, we are free to think anything (different or, as observed more often, the same). But what we say here on AI has no relevance to whether he really is guilty or not. I only stress on that because of my distaste for a mob getting ready for a lynching. I don't really care if he's guilty.

People have done far worse for much less. The promise of money can play tricks on the weak-minded. For example, take those who worked for gov't and sold top secret info to foreign powers. Every free country has someone at some point who is so self-deluded to believe he/she is smarter and "special" and won't get caught. If the accusations against this Devine dude prove true, guaranteed he was cut from the same "smarter and special" cloth as the ones I mentioned above.
