Once again, Apple gets it right and judging by some of the comments that I've been reading on various sites, the Apple haters and other forms of lower species are all apparently losing their minds and they're getting pretty desperate now. I find the whole spectacle rather hilarious.
Those who are old enough to have been following Apple from the beginning have seen it all and heard it all before. It's the same old tired and recycled comments, coming from people who haven't got the faintest clue as to why Apple's products are successful in the first place.
It's about the whole user experience and it's about the marriage of the hardware with the software. That's always been the case with Apple and it didn't just start with the iPad. Besides a few pimply faced trolls on message boards, nobody really gives a rat's ass if you can root your phone or your tablet and the average consumer doesn't give two shits about technical specifications.
What they care about is how the product feels and works when they're holding it in their hands and they're actually using it. That's what people care about. The iPad is more like an appliance than a computer. That's why the iPad is such a success and the iPad 2 builds upon that success by making various improvements which means that millions of more people will be buying an iPad in 2011. Meanwhile, the competitors and the haters will all be scratching their dense heads and wondering why nobody is buying (insert inferior copycat tablet here).
There are a few channels where the clone tabs are likely to do well in spite of your being right on the merits - the ones that are going to subsidize 'em: cellco stores, websites and kiosks - including the companies that Apple doesn't have agreements with.
Crowded superstore sections soon to be devoted to tabs will be another place where the sales help will often be clueless and point unsophisticated customers towards 'em.

It was a technology demo showing their OS. The game will ship with pause on swipe up as default. Game developers ain't going to ship their games with the game continuing on swipe up --- because your character would die.
Now Apple has published what is iPAD2. The media has been busy indeed, trying to be the first to get specs right. But that doesn't seem to quiet the continuing I wish it had a Retina Display, Works on 4G network, and also Flash. Also the Camera's need to be the quality of a Canon professional camera and I want to be able to replace my high performance MBP or x86 power house computer so I can run Final Cut, Aperture and on and on.
What these would-be designers don't realize is they also want 10 hours of operational time. With a little digging I found that those who want 4G speeds also find their batteries get less than 2 hours of use before they have to be recharged ... Same with Flash and retina display would take a lot more processor and graphic support not to mention more Ram, that Apple doesn't feel the need to announce. And of course, you all want this for a lower price, with more SSD storage.
Funny thing a lot of comparison are with XOOM. They haven't even shipped 4G or flash capability. Yes, the offer pc like multitasking... and they need all the extra memory to accomplish that with considerable more operational complexity and isn't even close to intuitional like the terrific iPAD is. Even Grandma and youngsters can readily use an iPAD. Give them a XOOM and watch how it would be received.
Also all the 60,000 apps for iPAD work, and work well with over 15 million units sold to date. With Android, every manufacturer tweaks the apps and there is no universal compatibility. Apple developers have received over $2 million in compensation for their efforts. Ask an Android developer how much he/she is receiving.
So forget iPAD3 ... it isn't going to happen in 2011... why should it. Just go buy an iPAD2 and enjoy twice the processor performance and 9 times the graphic performance over the original iPAD. Also enjoy the thinner, and lighter weight iPAD2 and the gorgeous designed cover with clever on/off action.
Your wants, hates, and I wishes are not going to change this year's beautiful upgrade.

This analyst says the iPAD2 has 512 MB with LPDD2 ram. This is low power higher performance ram that runs faster... thereby moving data quicker ... 1066 mhz/sec instead of 800 mhz/sec on the original iPAD. In some circles this would be called 4 times the performance.
Also realize that iOS does not operate like x86 OS... so it doesn't need a lot of ram. Also realize that Thunderbolt will not be part of iPAD as the processor is not PCI express oriented.
The gamers should be happier with 9 times graphics performance, twice the processor performance and now 4 times the ram performance (if this spec is actually true).

OK - so what is the verdict for people like me hoping for a better display - I like all the other stuff - just bummed about the display. When Jobs says graphics look much better I assume he does not mean the display but he is talking about motion graphics? Am I parsing or reading in too much about his comments?
The screen resolution has not changed from iPAD (original) ... refresh rates are up by 9x ... mirroring is now available thru add-on connector to TV or projector ... great for presentations. Added two great app improvements, GarageBand, and iMovie. iOS4.3 brings forth additional magic.
Either get over it or just be bummed as you mentioned.

The Thunderbolt controller is PCI express technology dependent ... the ARM processor and iPAD system structure are entirely different. You will not be seeing Thunderbolt technology in iPAD anytime soon. It is much more likely to see everything going wireless in terms of data transfer vs hard wire. The biggest challenge with wireless is power distribution.
I have an Iphone 4 and I have seen an Ipad. I guess I have been spoiled and see room for improvement from the Ipad but I understand technology/price/availability cannot keep up.
I guarantee you that on Ipad 3 the first bullet point will be display quality change. I was hoping to see that today.
I am leaning towards getting an Ipad 2 so I guess my real question is should I wait a little longer since I do not have an Ipad or wait for Ipad 3 - if it is a year from now I will buy the Ipad 2 - if it is this fall I can wait. I am perplexed about what to do.
iPAD3 is vaporware for this year. You will see software upgrades ... iOS4.3 has a lot of goodies included. Screen resolution is the same as iPAD ... as you know dual core, better graphics 9x, if the analyst from the orient is correct, ram is 512, LPDD2 which runs at 1066 mhz/sec vs 800 mhz/sec on the original iPAD. This kicks data thru put by a factor of 4. Pretty nice upgrade. iOS does multitasking differently than x86. Safari is twice as fast also.
They'll have to drop the price on the "old" iPads now.
They already have by $100 ... run fast while they're still available. Production has switched to iPAD2. Of course you can by and iPAD used from someone upgrading to iPAD2 perhaps.

This is even remotely viable I would expect to see it on the iPod lone first, starting with the smaller models and movign upwards due to their small batteries. I can?t imagine something like the iPad with a 25W battery being viable for inductive charging for many years. Even now charging over the 5W USB in MBPs is inadequate for decent charging times, hence the inclusion of the external PSU and most likely, the introduction of Thunderbolt.

You guys are misunderstanding what it means to have Thunderbolt on a host PC. It doesn?t mean that every device you connect it to has to have an x86 chip in it. Just look at the external HDDs with Thunderbolt that have been announced. It doesn?t even mean that it has to have PCI as the accessory can still use some other protocol, like USB or FireWire, over that cable. All the Thunderbolt connector on a host PC will do is open up the doors to much faster connectivity and power for accessory devices. That means you will be able to connect an iPad?s 30-pin connector to a cable with a the iPod Dock Connector on one end and Thunderbolt/DP port at the other end to get 10W power supplied to it (2x charging rate) and faster syncing over a variety of protocols that Apple deems best.
In all seriousness do you really think Intel designed the next generation connector and made it so limited that ONLY devices with both an X86 chip AND a PCI connector could possibility benefit from it? What consumer purpose would that have?
Don?t get hung up on the connector type or the spec sheet, just remember that its offers twice the power and is protocol independent. Thunderbolt is big news and will be creeping into the rest of the Mac line and other vendors? products shortly. This has already been written and Intel already provides controllers for peripherals to offload onto Thunderbolt to be handled by the host machine. When you consider how long the iPad 2 was likely in production before Intel had got denied by the USB-IF to use the USB port interface, and that the iPhone 5 is still the flagship iDevice it makes sense that the iPad 2 doesn?t have Thunderbolt capabilities, but that doesn?t mean it?s not possible for Thunderbolt to ever be used with a peripheral that doesn?t have an x86 chip in it.

Except that it wasn't a good summary at all. The refresh rate of the iPad 2 has not changed. It is still 60hz.
So is this an SGX543MP2, do you think? If they say 9x the performance of the first iPad, and the 543 single chip is 4.5 times as powerful according to Imagination, the MP2 seems to fit the bill.
