Unless it's by design, which would be lame, you can't see any of the free songs you've purchased from iTunes weekly free songs in the Purchased section.
My wife and I use Home Sharing in all of these ways you describe above. We both have our own AppleID's. We both buy and maintain our own iTunes Libraries. We share our stuff using Home Sharing. Both of our libraries show up on the AppleTV. We can control our AppleTV with any of our iOS devices. I have some of her music on my iPhone. She has some of my apps. etc... That's how Home Sharing works.

straight from the iTunes T&C's Usage section: "(iii) You shall be able to store iTunes Products from up to five different Accounts at a time on compatible devices".
The unknown is how iCloud behaves during Restores & Backups I guess.
At first with iTunes on PC and Mac I was wondering where I could see the history of my purchases. You have to go to iTunes Store, and then there's a new "Purchased" link on the right hand side.
iOS devices can have content from more than one iTS account (5 is the limit as far as I remember). Your kids can have their own accounts and all apps can be shared.

Interesting. I am able to re-download previously purchased tracks with iTunes on my iPhone but a couple dozen of them are downloaded as 128 Kbps DRM versions. So much for that 256 Kbps business. Also, a few music videos give me a "cannot be re-downloaded" error.

Why not? I would think for apple it would be much easier to just have one copy of the song on their servers. Instead they have two (one of which they haven't sold in years) and they're keeping track of which version people had? Seems pretty insane, much easier to just send out the 256 and be done with it. And when people start signing up for iTunes match, are they going to send out all those songs again at the higher rate? Definitely seems like a head scratcher to me.
For me a big question about iTunes match is stuff like lyrics. I've added them to a bunch of my songs, if iTunes isn't going to copy them over automatically that sure makes using the cloud version less appealing. How are they going to handle "upgrades" in general? Getting all new versions is cool but it will take a ton more hard drive space - is it safe to delete the old versions because the new ones are kept forever, or do they somehow expire if you cancel the service.
Also, while 10.3 is still 32 bit, looks like 10.5 will finally be 64. About freaking time.
I was able to update iTunes this morning and selected to have purchased songs download automatically. Now, midday, when I usually have 85% battery life left I have 38% and it's dropping quickly. I've also noticed that my phone is much warmer than normal. Anyone else? 37% now : (
Let me start by saying this is not a complaint, this service is sweel as heck!
That said I thought everything was to be 256k - Im getting my old tracks bought before the 256 k transition in 128 - is the new bitrate only for the $25/Yr plan?
BTW This service makes me regret getting all moral a few years ago and trashing my collection from Kazza/napster/bittorrent because now all that will be legit with this. (im sure the eula speaks against that but come on - I have one word Cent-iPad.)
