FERRO, are those handles I see in the top. It's kinda plain, and I like the existing one better, but if they have to change it at least your design has handles. I can't live without those things. Good job.
Although, has anyone seen the one that big terminator looking one made of metal with the clear plastic X that wraps around it yet. That one has to be my favorite, but I can't figure out how to get easy access to the insides yet.
I think I'm going to try and mold that design for my self.
thanks... I darkened (slightly) the handle bars...
I didnt put any handles on the bottom becuase they would serve no purpose...
A Free G5 for the person who recognizes the origanal photo this was edited from...??? ( just kidding... )
I think it has very clean lines and a futuristic look to it (chrome and all), that keeps with the old (handle bars and size) and melds with the new (silver, titanium and lucite) look of the present models...
are there any share programs for messing around with pictures?
i love the iceboz design, i would by it.
but, how big is it? about the size of the cube or close the current ones size?

I used appleworks for most of the iCeBoxG5...(I personally liked ClarisWorks better)...
As for size, I would figure that it would have to be smaller than the PM we have now... (which is mostly eye candy)
The present PM is Huge, the iCeBox would be like a small silver suitcase... probably with rubber feet...
Given the fact that this is a fictional PM design let me add that I would have the design feature an "inner and outer Titanium (or aluminum) shell" and would draw cool air thru special channels between the metal sheets to cool the PM... I am no scientist but it sounds like a good idea to me...
We could call it an "Exo-Thermal Heat Shield" ... just an idea...
I like the squarish idea. It gives Apple room to mount the mobo vertically down the middle with PCI slots running down both sides and put 5.25" bays side by side
I think it'll be a matte white monolith with retractable hidden seemless handles (kind of like the cubes slide out nuclear core guts). i also think it'll have chrome accents and rounded yet clean corners.. I hope they can make the LCD's more like the iMac's...poseable I mean. that would rock. I had to use the LCD on the 933 tower at work today, and I kept on wanting to squeeze it down like I do with my iMac2.

i don't really see why apple would ever think much of having the powermacs mountable... it hasn't even been an option since the G3. the case design of all their products is very important to most users and to keep it's originality, they sacrifice making it mountable.
if you mounted the g5 processor really close the metal caseing you would a none stick aluminum frying pan, now i really want one.

Being that tall...you would literally have to round the base and put all of the weight at the bottom so it springs back up...and if you want to fit a few drives, mobo, and graphics card in there...it would be a huge sphere on the bottom, and the tower would be pointless and weightless almost. Otherwise the thing would be knocked over very easily.

not really my point...my point is dont set anything on top . all that heat coming out one very small space=bad news. also, the heat is less distributed throughout the case. due to weight reasons the graphics cards/expansion slots would be up on top...which means more fans and more holes in the case. also, the top of the case would get MUCH hotter than the bottom, especially in a collumn form factor, and i wouldnt be suprised to see this thing crack like an egg

then whats the point of a giant collumn...if its going to be that huge. this thing just wont happen.

hey man.... lay off. It's a DAMN good idea
Cool ideas. I have a few of my own... Apple maybe around Macworld could produce about 25,000 Powermacs, and three-four types of them. Depending on what was ordered the most, they would use that one.. Of course I am guessing they would need to produce more than that, but that way people could get what they really want. One of my ideas was, if you made the side so it does NOT open up anymore, but using hydraulics, literally everything in the computer comes out the top... Something like that would be REALLY easy to work on, and would just be sweet. I know this is probably not practical... I personally think they could make a few different configurations available. Like a very low profile tower, and one that is pretty large... OR maybe they could sell a model with a breakout box for PCI cards. (The graphics card would be internal.) AND the harddrives would also be in a seperate package. By putting the circuitry in that box, they could sell different size ones, and you would not be limited by cable length. Of course all of this would be stackable, and would allow for a wide range of customization. And it is not practical to make, IMO, so too bad.

Now where's my G5!?
Some people have been complaining about this.

Ooooh, a lunchbox, a sphere and a modular computer. Sounds like Intel's innovative computers crap.
The slightly modelled tower is the best design, there's a reason towers have been used for the past 10-15 years.
I just hope Apple wakes up and adds optical drive expansion and that it looks nothing like those ugly pictures you guys have submitted.
