Not really. The SuperDrive could easily be mounted near the base of the pyramid. The new iMac could probably have had a pyramid base if Jobs wanted it to.
I just don't think a pyramid looks right on a desk...
Hi all! I've been lurking around here for about a week and decided it was time to register! I've been a registered IGN Boards user for quite some time and have 1,335 posts on my account over there.
Now that I've gotten that out of the way, I'd like to know what you think the new G5s will look like. I think Apple will continue to use the same style tower case with minimal changes (if any). Although it's tough to think what colors and other designs they might use. I personaly LOVE the Quicksilver case that they currently use. I can't really imagine what they'll do for a new design but I'm sure it will be beautiful like everything else they make!

Got a couple of fakes, the iSphere is fake, i don't know about the other one.

I would like a tower that
1.) was quiet(er)
2.) had a smaller footprint
3.) 2 5.25 inch bays user accessible
4.) front mounted USB, Firewire and headphone jack
5.) designed to be a great airport station/receptor
6.) was a little more daring in design (like the new iMac)
and possibly design it so that it sort of fits behind or with an AppleLCD better. not really sure how it could but I'm sure something could be thought of.
Apple nut, I was toying around with an idea about a new tower. Basically you would have a small box that can be stowed anywhere. It's small but expandable because all it would contain is a motherboard with 4 pci and an agp slot, 3 hard drive bays, no 5.25 inch bays, a power supply and that's it. It would have a power connector, 4 pci slot openings, an agp slot opening and a 'multi-connector' and that's all. This box would be roughly 12h x 12d x 5.25w inches and be able to sit on its side or its belly. No handles needed.
You would have a second box that sits on your desktop about 4.5h x 9.25d x 6.5w inches and would house 2 5.25 inch drive bays one on top of the other. One would naturally be installed with a Superdrive or CDRW while the other would be empty. It would also house all the ports on the back; 3 USB, 2 firewire, VGA, ADC, speaker, ethernet. Inside would contain a firewire to IDE interface for the 2 drive bays. You can even intergrate a microphone into this box. The box would connect to the main tower with one cable running out of the desktop box connecting to the 'multi-connector' on the tower. On the tower side the cable would have to branch out to connect to the VGA and ADC. The multi-connector would handle all the firewire, USB, audio, network signals along with the video signals. No need for IDE to pass along because the firewire can handle the CDRW or Superdrive. It would be handy to have all the external drivebays and ports on you desk rather than on the floor behind your tower.
I imagine the tower would have a silver and white look to it (silver on the sides with white in the center, sort of like an ice cream sandwich) while the desktop unit would be similar. There would be buttons on the desktop unit to open and close each individual drive bay and the trap doors would be wide and tall enough to fit any drive. Anyway this is my idea.
