they are right that Apple basically hammered on one feature because everything else was just updates.

but how is that really different than many other companies. One major 'new' bit at a time is generally the norm. Just like the marketing tends to be 99% focused on that big new thing

Well if the voice recognition software on the Windows phone is anything like what MS has put on my new Ford Focus . . . . . they really shouldn't be bragging. Actually the whole MS package MS wrote for the Focus is a piece of shite.

"Tell Me" is like Siri in the the sense that Rebecca Black is like Annie Lennox. Really, what's the difference? They both sing, right?

In an interview last week with Forbes, Microsoft Chief Research and Strategy Officer Craig Mundie said that Siri's capabilities are not Apple-specific, and notes that Windows Phone's similar "Tellme" technology has been functional for over a year.

"The Tellme facility's been in the Windows 7 phone for more than a year," Mundie said. "So I mean I just think people are infatuated with Apple announcing [Siri]."

    He's never used Siri.

I really want someone to post a video of someone using Siri and TellMe side-by-side after this statement by MS.

I've known since its intro that Siri is not some completely new tech (it was an app before). So that's not news. But I've never heard of this WP7 feature until just now.

Based on the ad posted above, it looks somewhat interesting, though I immediately have questions, especially about the delivery of the reservation info hours (days, weeks ?) later. Do you just talk at the phone like the ad shows? What exactly can it do.

I've long been an Apple fan, but I don't necessarily discount everything from MS just because it is MS. But they need to back up this claim a bit more. Hope someone with WP7 can post that video. Wonder what TellMe thinks the meaning of life is?

my 2 cents, he's just trying to get publicity by talkin smack on Apple. everyone on these forums know that nothing spreads faster than bad news about impervious Apple.

I agree 100%. When high-ups give these types of interviews to the media, the key is to avoid reading too much into what they actually say. It's the big picture that matters.

This guy is basically saying, "Siri is child's play. We've got something bigger to show you."

But it looks exactly the same, and they didn't change the number 4 to 5! The iPhone 4S is a huge flop! What a disappointment! I'm gonna get me a smooth Android phone instead because the screen is bigger and I'm too poor to afford a proper tablet !

    Nevermind.

Wow, this guy is just figuring out this whole how-to-run-a-business thing now?!

How dare Apple--a public company whose sole mission is to provide investors with ROI--do something to entice people to buy their products?! Never mind that most of the people who were deflated by the iPhone 4S's new features were hardcore tech geeks, a minority of the phone-buying public, and not regular folks who were intrigued by Siri.

It sill beguiles to think that there are companies out there who think that good marketing means going to peoples' houses, putting a gun to their head, and forcing them to buy a product. If you have a good product, shitty marketing will sell it. Good marketing will sell more. A shitty product won't sell no matter how much perfume you spray on the POS.

Macs have had Siri-?like? capability since the 1990s! You could launch an app or ask for the time. (Still can with OS X.)

Siri isn?t new, merely much better!

(I agree, though, Apple is touting all the new features?like Siri, faster speed, the camera?because the 4S lacks new features )

Sour grapes from Microsoft. Why am I not surprised.

The Windows phone is rapidly disappearing in the iPhone's rear view mirror.

So, Apple marketed a major new feature (Siri) to distract from... the absence of major new features? If that's what passes for logic in Redmond, no wonder they keep screwing up their products with ribbons and animated paper clips!

I suggest that you delete your post, otherwise I am going to have to reply to it and liberals won't like what I will say about them.

There is a political section of this forum where you can take your delusions.

Mundie: ?I mean, all that?s already there. Fully functional, been there for a year.?

So?maybe that really is why Mundie dismisses Siri: Microsoft?s version of the feature hasn?t sparked sales of the Windows Phone 7, so he can?t imagine it?s a big deal on any platform.

Moreover, Microsoft?s culture is throughly suffused with robber baron thinking, even at the research nexus he inhabits?it?s the only way Microsoft knows how to make money.

In other words, he and the rest of the chiefs make such unwittingly ignorant remarks because they habitually wear big, fat dollar signs like horse blinders. Whoa, Nellie!

    Nope, I'm not a Republican. I don't belong to any political party. I am merely anti-fascist, anti-nazi and anti-liberal.

And don't believe in the false myth that only one type of people uses Apple products. Even George Bush used multiple Apple devices.
