That would make his predictions of impending doom wrong. It must be more and more difficult for him to consider everyone with an iPhone a mindless drone.

No respect for? There was never any respect for anyone not completely immersed in the proverbial hivemind. Reasonable OS agnostic posters go ignored while despicable human beings like Apple ][ get high fives simply because Apple ][ is 100%

I give respect where respect is due. Respect isn't 100% agreement BTW.

Link one post of yours on this forum that received such a response. I can link 3 in this thread where you insult people for liking Apple products.

For liking Apple products? Find those posts I'd love to see them.

Or maybe you should read some of the posts that were submitted before I left my circle jerk comment.

I'm not going to go through all his posts but one of his early posts on this site was "While I'll admit I was underwhelmed by the KEYNOTE I don't see how you can be underwhelmed by the device...especially since the only real "complaint" is that it looked the same." That sounds reasonable to me.

Perhaps. Or perhaps you weren't clear as to what you meant. Or perhaps we have respect defined differently in our personal dictionaries.

I wasn't asking you to respect the people that you are complaining about. I am criticising your constant need to whine about them.

But now government and good many businesses seem to be standardizing on iOS. I guess because the only other real choice (until we see how Windows 8 pans out) is Android, and compared to Android (which isn't really a company but a collection of licensees) Apple is a model of consistency and coherence. The same thing that has been derided in certain quarters as too conservative for the go-go consumer market-- once a year updates, once every two year case redesigns, aggressive curation of the platform-- are exactly what large organizations want and need.

iOS is also the only mature OS in the portable devices arena. Windows 8 for computers will likely be stable, but it's really a first-round, rewritten OS for touch devices and will be full of all the "oopses" and unexpected holes Microsoft is famous for over-looking. WM13 or 14 will be versions ready for prime time.

Now obviously Microsoft is an old hand at catering to such organizations, and has a vastly larger installed user base in same than Apple, so they're a bit of a wildcard. But by the time they've got their stuff on the market and it has a chance to be evaluated, it may be too late. Once the federal government has made some choices as to mobile platforms, they're not going to revisit those choices for quite a few years. Ditto large corporations.

If Windows 8 can offer a genuinely seamless experience across platforms, so that I could for instance grab my W8 tablet and work with any and all Office files, with no formatting issues for the round trip, then yeah-- they could certainly shake things up. But I don't get the impression that's actually in the cards, Microsoft's sort of vague hand-waving notwithstanding.

I agree with you on all points. Also I see MS continuing to skate to where the puck was. Apple's plan is to keep moving the stakes at a rate that will keep MS and the rest of the pack a bit off balance.

As if being a "part" of the winning team isn't enough, you have to piss on the competition as well.

    It's immature.

You also have to allow for the fact that Apple has a unique cultural presence: almost racial or sexual level animosity, expressed in every corner of the internet. This goes way beyond typical partisanship, and into a pretty ugly worldview that equates Apple and Apple users with all things weak, mannered, pretentious, vacuous, lll-informed, spineless, slavishly devoted to fashion, and, of course, smug.

In other words, real men use Android, Windows, or whatever else you've got. Apple makes toys, as befits their childish customers. Apple users are girly men when they aren't actually girls, and hysterical queens, and probably deserve a punch in the face.

Insane? Sure. Ubiquitous? Always, and if you doubt it note that every time this gets mentioned you will reliably get a bunch of "Yeah, but it's all kind of true, 'they' bring it on themselves." This about the what is possibly the widest demographic of any consumer electronics company, selling hundreds of millions of devices all over the globe.

So when there's a site that might have the promise of allowing Apple fans to do a little trash talk, celebrate some successes for the platforms, and kid around without constantly being hectored by assholes, the way they undoubtedly will be on every other fucking tech site on the internet, how is that a problem?

What is it about Apple that seems to drive people crazy if they get the feeling they're talking amongst themselves without monitoring for error? I actually find it mystifying.

You've articulated something I've always wanted to say, and better than I could have. Bravo. I see nothing but constant Apple bashing in pretty much every other tech site and forum on the internet- yes, even Apple fansites. Go to any article about Apple on a site like Engadget, etc. and 95% of the comments will be vile vitriol, mockery, hatred, and other irrational trolling and garbage directed at the company, belittling every single thing that Apple does, and mocking its successes and its users, without giving a shred of credit for its accomplishments of acknowledging the massive change it has ushered in so many industries. It's hate, hate, and more hate. Even macrumor's a forums are littered with anti-apple trolls, which the moderators do nothing about, and which ended up destroying any chance of discussion or debate. So I too am thankful for the existence of this site, which seems more sane than anywhere else, and where one can admit excitement about Apple without being denigrated and mocked. And no, I don't see NEAR the same level of trash-talk towards other companies on these forums than elsewhere on the internet directed at Apple. And the criticisms I do see tend not to be trolls, but based on rationality and reason, with the level of intelligence here being generally higher than elsewhere. I love the subjective opinion pieces on this site, which give it character and personality. There's enough copy/paste apple rumor sites out there that do 'reporting'- we don't need more. The pieces here are more entertaiing to read, as they're written by someone with a real passion and obviously strong opinions, which makes them more colorful. Again, if someone doesn't like the tone of this site there's only about 37,293 other tech/apple sites they can visit.

    Actually 2.5 Kindles.

Apple should release a counter commercial with the guy responding, "Cool, so if I get the Kindle I can video chat with my friends, record & post video to youtube, store 16 gigs worth of data, play my favorite tablet 3D games, connect up my bluetooth headphones, go geotagging?"

Response from girl, "well...no, not those things. You can store about half that, and you do get a smaller but thicker device."

Guy, "well, I guess I'll give it a try." After a few minutes messing with it, "Hey! What the world, you mean hardly any of the Android apps even work on here? What CAN I do with this thing?"

Girl, "surf the web, stream content from Amazon for like $80/month."

Guy, "Oh, so after like 4 months of use I might as well have bought an iPad, or I can just use it to surf the web. Yeah, I think I'll keep my iPad." Wanders off shaking his head, "seriously, what a crock!"

It's kind of humorous, All the fandroids keep saying, "it isn't meant to compete with the iPad." Then here is Amazon trying to compare it directly.

    You would suppose wrong.

Simple test: go to any tech site of your choosing. Pick one article that features an Android or Windows device, and one article that features an Apple device, and read the comments.

Typically, Android/Win discussion center around the relative merits, compared to other devices running the same OS, some carping about shortcomings of said devices, and occasionally the odd "If you were running OS X/iOS you wouldn't have these problems" that are instantly met with unhinged rage and lengthy diversions into the general horribleness of Apple users and .suggestions that this is why "everybody hates Apple", their users are such fucking pigs.

Just as typically, the Mac/iOS discussion begins with quite a few comments demanding to know why the site in question is so eager to blow the moldering corpse of Steve Jobs, how much Apple pays to turn a once proud journalistic institution in to Apple's bitch, etc. Once that's out of the way, they can get down to the business of braying about fan boys, remarking about how Apple's mindless sheeple fan-base will buy any overpriced "Crapple" they're ordered to, and describing all the great kit that does exactly what the item in question does but better for less.

    It is absolutely standard issue.

Considering you won't see what I see and vice versa and we both react differently to damn near diametrically opposed stimuli makes this discussion moot.

You will see what you see and I will see what I see and mostly those things will support our points.

What I do know is that Android centric sites do not have numerous articles about Apple/iOS nor do they have commenters on these articles call Apple uses Sheeple, etc on a regular basis, random as hell and unprovoked.

General tech sites do contain a lot of Slappyesque people, I'll give you that one, but when it comes to platform centric sites it's not even close.

So there is no iphone 5? They think the 4s will compete against the monsters Android is about to release? This will be easier than I thought.

Apple is surely missing Jobs. I was hoping for a good tech race, but one of the athletes just showed up with a bum leg.

I suppose some are having an iGasm about this half-update.

    Kneel before Nexus Prime.

By March, 2012, this phone will be a bigger joke than it is today.

Why is this on the Anroid Central website again? who cares about the iphone!

Not only will the Prime destroy this little toy, this icrap doesn't even deserve to be in the same sentence

Apple has nothing. See you in the rear view window. ?

If you don't notice that kind of crap from all your polite, reasonable Android fans... then the 'confirmation bias' appears to be pretty strong for you Absolute.
