Statistically, there have to be some problems. Were talking over 3 million devices!
On the flip side I think you see some people being hyper-sensitive since every perceived flaw - no matter how insignificant - tends to be way overblown in the press. The continual link baiting and over-dramatizing gets old, quickly. You would think after the bust that was "antennagate" that most of the usual suspects would be ashamed to keep it up.
Speaking of no shame and overdramatizing, as was pointed out in the "overheating" article comments even Consumers Reports is devolving into the "Weekly Reader News" tabloid journalism space by continually using "hot" when at the very end they admit it's merely warm
Batboy with an iPad - nows there's a brilliant image!
I'm glad this thread has been posted. I thought it was just me.
I am indeed the proud owner of a 'New' iPad.
However, there does appear to be an issue with wi-fi signal fluctuating to the point of stone dead at times...or a weak or yo-yoing signal. 'Appear.' Well. There is.
I wish it weren't so. It's currently on 2 of the 3 bars after dropping out completely and then back on with only 1 weak bar.
It doesn't seem to matter how far or close to the wi-fi you are.
It may be a software issue.
But it's becoming clear that there is an issue. Whether it's a minority or bigger problem it's hard to say at this point.
Another thing I notice is a choppy lag when putting an enquiry into the Safari search box. It's only .5 of a sec or a sec but it's noticeable.
When the Wi-Fi is up and on 3 bars it's very, very fast. Comparable or faster than the iPad2?
I'll be monitoring the issue. Much more of it and I'll be in touch with Apple.
Aside from this issue, it's an astonishing piece of kit. The screen is awesome.
2. Some people simply like to complain. Invariably when there's an issue like this, people will complain, but are happy enough that they'd keep the device, anyway. In fact, since they can return the device if they're not happy, it looks like 100% of the people complaining aren't unhappy enough to return their device.
I don't know about some people. But if I pay £399 for a state of the art device with wi-fi being one of it's touted features I expect it to work. I'll see how the issue develops and if the problem persists the 'New' iPad will go back to the store for Apple to fix/replace.

Lemon Bon Bon.
Exactly. If you have a new electronic device and it doesn't work, which is more likely to solve the problem-- complaining about it on a forum like this or taking it back where you bought it?
If you don't care enough to take it back to the store, it's probably not that much of a problem.
You are not making any sense, if you want to do what you claim would like to be able to do, just go to Apple Support forums, search for the given issue and try to get help or shared informations there. You don't need AI for that, this is what Support forums are for.
There is no answer in Apple Support forums, though several people have posted the exact issue. I was making a point (maybe not very well) to someone who said AI and other sites should not run a story about the WiFi issue because it only affects a small number of people. Besides the news value of such a story, if you're one of those small number of people affected, any mention of your issue on any forum is welcome.
Of interest - I have a iPad 1 gen, iPad 2 and the newest one. My 1 gen with 3G connectivity has the weakest wifi signal. The newest is on par with the iPad 2.
Why aren't more people complaining about the VGA camera in the front? That should be a bigger deal that the tablet getting warm. There are plenty of androids with 2mp sensors in the front.

Ssshhhh these people don't take to kindly when you mention that an Android tablet has a feature that the iPad doesn't. I'll save them time by answering for them. Apple knows what their doing, if you needed a higher resolution they would have given you a higher resolution. The market has spoken, everyone is buying a iPad regardless of your want for a higher resolution front camera. Lets see I know there are more, oh if you want an Android tablet no one is stopping you so good luck with your crappy tablet. One more, just one more, oh why would you possibly want a higher resolution front camera with a mug like that, trust us when we're saying you don't need a higher pixel count you need less, you sasquatch.

Most likely because not very many people care.
Personally, I think 640x480 is plenty for video chatting. Do you really need to see the spinach in the other person's teeth?
Besides, if Apple had a 5 MP camera in front, they'd get all the whiners complaining about their data usage (it is possible to use FaceTime over 3G).

You forgot 'speed-trap-gate'.
I really was trying to be funny when I posted my reply to this question but I have ask do you really believe that. My only contact with a lot of my friends is over video chat and when I use my iPad I always get complaints on how crappy the image quality is. So I started using my Samsung Galaxy 7.7" and I now I get comments like, "wow what are you using as a camera."
I take a lot of crap from people on this board because I happen to like some of the Android tablets that are on the market, but on this subject I'm sorry the iPad is just not very good. Yea sure your side is good but what the other person sees is subpar quality, unless of course your both using iPads then in that case your both clueless.
Take it as is I don't care, yes, yes I know you have no problems, everything works as if the gods themselves crafted the 640 x 480 lens from Apple. Sorry just say that out loud, 640 x 480, yea I know, it sounds pretty ridiculous to me to.
How do you know it's a small number of people? In my experience 99% of people who have a problem don't bother to post it on the internet, they just take it back to the shop.
I noticed this too. From the front room in my house and the master bedroom on the new iPad I would suddenly discover I was browsing the net over the 3G network instead of the house Wireless network. The iPad 3 just dropped it. In the house we have an MBP, two iPhone 4's and an iPad 1, and I've not had this issue with those devices.
When the signal was working ok I didn't notice any problems with speed. Watching stuff over Netflix worked ok.
I did some googling and noticed one guy who said that he only had the problem at home on his 802.11g network and not the 802.11n network at the Apple store. So I checked my router and sure enough I'd got it set to run at 802.11g - something I'd done previously to cater for legacy devices which now no longer exist. So I upped the speed to 802.11n and so far so good. It's early days yet as I've not had much chance to test it, but I've not noticed any connection drops so far.

Really?
Skype's standard video resolution is 320x240. You can change the setting to a maximum of 640x480. So the most widely used video chatting program on the planet agrees that 640x480 is plenty.
Sorry, but arguing that you need multiple MP video chat resolution for a tablet is silly. It would be different for a corporate conference room setup which has a stable camera and good lighting (plus being viewed at a greater distance), but for a handheld camera being viewed on a 7.7" screen? Silly spec games.

It's not about silly specs game. For the price Apple, charges for the iPads the front camera should have been updated to at least 2 MP like the rest of the tablets. Skype is at 720P, not VGA you better go back and read up on it again. It's not just the resolution either it's also the quality of image.
Look I know most people on this board thinks that Apple is the second coming and can't do any wrong but Apple only updates their tablets once a year. Sorry but a VGA webcam was obsolete last year and the year before that, you defending Apple on this, well let's just say I fully understand why people think Apple users are just drones drinking the CoolAid. There is no excuse, none, they should have paid the extra dollar for a multiple MP front camera. I have many friends all over the world and I want the best quality when talking with them, this might not be important to you but it is with me. Check out my new necklace, put it up closer I can't make it out, no still can't, oh forget it I'll send you a picture.

So never mind that the most popular chatting software on the planet can't go beyond 640x480 or that even if you did youd collapse the Internet faster than Netflix - Apple needs to upgrade the camera "just because"?!?
Yup - your right. It's the irrational Apple lovers that have the problem
A lot of it is psychology. When I hear someone ragging the iPad because it's thicker and heavier I just scratch my head. Honestly how many people can tell it's the tiniest bit thicker and heavier. If they weren't given the size and weight specifications would they even notice it?
Uh this is probably real stupid of me to post in a thread where everyone has gone completely nuts but uuhhmm there really is a difference in weight and thickness. I'm just a girl and I use to be able to hold the iPad 2 for quite along period of time with just one hand but the new one becomes heavy real quick. Not saying there is anything wrong with that as I'll take the speed, heat, weight, thickness and that bitchin screen any day over the old one. Saying you can't notice it though is kind of reaching a little, there is an obvious difference and it isn't as suttle as you make it out to be.
