I think it'll follow the iPod Touch "look" as much as possible but I do wonder if they can do an aluminium case whilst keeping the right price points. I wouldn't at all be surprised if we did saw a departure from metal to plastic for the casing of this device.
Well if they do make it in colors the only one left in stock after day 1 will probably be the pink 8 GB WiFi only.
I figured as much. I hope it's priced well. I talked with my guys at Google and they stopped me from buying a Nexxus 7 because they have a newer tablet coming down the pipeline very soon along with their maps app.
My one fear about the ipad mini is that unlike the iphone 5, there hasn't been a single leak of the logic board. Slightly concerned about that, am I the only one?

And that's the difference between Apple and Google. The former will sell you an iPad 3 during the iPad 4's keynote. The latter will tell you not to buy what they have for sale.
Apple gives the users that bought something right before the new model a chance to return it and get the newer product. Apple does have a limited return policy because their retail stores can't discuss new products until the day they are announced.
Even Apple's Retail Sales people don't know what is going to be announced until the day of the announcement.
Everything you read is speculation.
What do car mfg do when they announce a new car? NOTHING. They sell what's on the lot and when a new model comes out, when it comes out, then you can buy the new model. So, what's the problem. ALL companies that constantly come out with new products are going to sell you what they have.
Do you think Google is going to tell EVERYONE not to buy their current product? NO typically.
If I had talked to Google, I would have just told them I going to buy the iPad Mini and not buy their Nexus whatever because I want something with a REAL eco-system, not just some wannabe eco-system. And then hangup and laugh. Google is a joke. They really don't design any of the hardware, they just pick from standard components the basic specs and then ASUS does the rest and sticks Google's name on it. BIG DEAL. Nothing special going on with Google hardware, and I STILL can't figure out what IDIOT left out the camera on the Nexus 7, that was just boneheaded on a product like that.

Yep, but I always thought and said cameras on iPads was a great idea. The better the the camera, the better.
But even Gruber makes fun of people holding up a tablet to take pictures. Let 'em laugh, I say. Cameras everywhere! People are too image-conscious these days.
So they took the iPad 2 and grafted a smaller screen on it. That is nothing impressive. Apple already has an iPad Mini, it is called the iPod Touch. They both do the same thing. 4:3 aspect ratio, still?...how forward thinking of them. Another version of the iPad that will be terrible for watching video.
all tablets are terrible at watching video, compared to my 7.2speaker 55" plasma setup. So what's your point? All devices have to align to a 16:9 configuration or you won't buy them?
Thank god Apple is not a monopoly, and you can buy what you need.
Apple booked the entire hotel (600+ rooms) for Sunday [10/21] through Wednesday [10/24]. Their setup people were on site [this past] Tuesday. Late Wednesday, as setup was nearing completion, Apple told the resort that they “wanted all of their managers to be on site in their stores next Tuesday [10/23] for the upcoming tablet release” – that they were canceling the function

Color me skeptical. How likely is it that Apple staff would tell the hotel staff they were canceling because of the upcoming tablet release?

Just relaying the information. Cringely is wrong much more than he is right, but the article lays out the plausible reason for the change [but none for your question]

I didn't mean to criticize you. Just wanted to say I was skeptical about this tidbit from Cringely.

For tablet, I believe that the front-facing camera should have higher resolution. That would make teleconferencing or simple FaceTime more compelling.
Why do you people continue to call it a "7-inch" tablet when it's predicted to be way closer to being an 8-inch (7.85", to be exact) tablet?
I was replying to someone commenting on the Nexus7 so the "you people" doesn't apply to me, but I know what you mean. With that said do you think the smaller iPad is meant for production?
Despite his so-called "Internet fame," his predictions are wrong about half of the time by my count so there is hope that he isn't actually better than us mere mortals, irrespective of the adulation.
Nope. He's never wrong. There were just unforeseen delays.
But not one photo of all this setup. Sorry but it is possible someone played them with this one.
And it's possible that they could want the managers at the stores to handle the influx of folks coming in asking about the not yet released device, or an influx of other products given that the iMac, Mac mini, 13 inch MBP, cinema displays, apple TVs etc are all rumored for updates at the same event
No it's not. They are dumping the 8GB and making the 32GB at the same $249 price point the 16GB currently is at. The speculation is the 16GB goes to $99. I don't think you have any 'guys at Google' if you can't even spell NEXUS correctly.
EDIT for my 199 typo.
The 32GB Nexus7 is not longer a rumor. Some Staples are already selling them today, If anyone is curious it has 28GB usable, with 4GB for the OS.
Comments
I hope the iPad Mini/Nano/Air comes in beige.

For a contrarian view.... Cringely.com predicts 10/23 as the in store date for the iPad Mini.

What price? $249. . . But no colors.
