Rumor of 'decimated' Apple pro audio team likely false
Whispers that Apple virtually shut down its pro audio team have been debunked by the well-informed Jim Dalrymple, who offered his trademark "nope" response to the rumors.

Source:
Citing unnmaed sources, professional audio blog Pro Tools Expert on Sunday claimed Apple's pro audio application team in Europe had dwindled to only two specialists, including the departure of a key employee whose post will purportedly remain vacant. The drawdown prompted one source to quip that the group had been "decimated."
The rumor gained traction on Tuesday when MacWorld UK picked up the story, however The Loop's Dalrymple said the speculation was unfounded. Dalrymple is well known for his insight and inside connections within the Apple community, and his "yep" and "nope" posts are usually accurate.
Apple's pro audio team is responsible for the company's Logic Pro 9 digital audio workstation, which is now bundled with the Logic Studio suite, hasn't seen a major release since 2009. In the intervening months, other major DAW software makers have made substantial changes to their respective products, further fueling speculation that Apple has put Logic on the back-burner.

But can you validate that statement? NO. That's how rumors start. Someone just simply typing a sentence to get someone's attention is all it takes.
Yeah, I'm pretty sure that was his point.

In before the Anti-Apple Brigade and their "Apple is telling people they invented yellow" comments.
Would love to be knocked out by an amazing new version of it, but it's SO much better dealing with a company like Metric Halo, where nothing is shrouded in mystery, and bugs rarely last more than a few days.

You are correct, but it is more specific than that. Decimate is a term of war. After a unit deserted under fire, an execution squad was selected from the ranks of the deserters. They were forced to execute 1 in 10 of their deserter comrades.
I had not heard of Apple engineers running away during the heat of battle. Perhaps, Tim Cook runs a different kind of ship than Jobs.

That's the ticket.

Well, there are many reasons a team goes down by xx% that have nothing to do with running away in the heat of battle. Especially given how much hotter other divisions have been for the past three years than their DAW dept.
But man, there is no DAW more long in the tooth and guiltier of just getting (mostly) cursory updates since then than Logic. And it's still pretty quirky. DAW users rarely switch sideways to other DAWs without a good reason (like something stops working) since it's such a PITA. But what Apple has been offering from Logic has been mostly the price drop.

Business is war, and war terms are often used to describe things that are not war related, such as in sports and business.
To decimate is to destroy, obliterate and wipe out. If the Apple pro audio team had been dismantled, then decimate is an accurate term to use.
Decimated literally means 1 in 10 were killed. The word is neither accurate nor appropriate in this context. Obliterated is the appropriate term when all hands are lost or the unit is left with few survivors.
Perhaps they're saving the word 'obliterated' for the article on the iWork team.

That's one definition, but it doesn't always have to mean that only ten percent are killed.

iWork's too great to let go.

Yeah, just messing around. But January will mark THREE YEARS since iWork was given a major update.
And the product was only introduced in '05.
Apple's lackadaisical approach to software updates is what feeds these rumours that make the Mac platform look unstable.
