Why not use laminated glass like used in automotive windshields? It may not stop a car going through it but it will certainly stop rocks and clumsy thieves from getting in. Am I missing something?
Yes you're missing that automotive glass isn't unbreakable. The laminating is designed to prevent large glass shards from harming those within the vehicle. It it also designed to break much more easily from the inside.
Apple is now working on developing transparent steel.
Firs they have to do transparent aluminum, it's lighter and cheaper than transparent steel. But I would work on either transparent titanium or magnesium.
Actually, I'm surprised they didn't make their front doors out of bulletproof glass, other than it's far more expensive, thicker and it's ripping expensive.
No, actually, the article states that the criminal scumbag at the Boulder Apple store caused nearly $100k in damage and stole nearly $64k worth of merchandise.
The $600k is at the end of the article, and that's referring to a different incident, where some asshat drove a BMW into an Apple store in Cali.
No the article states that another break-in using a smash through the glass with a car caused $600K in damage.
Ah, you are correct on that, but drblank is incorrect in the original comment as it wasn't $64K in damages. Allow me to rephrase my original statement: Based on the [damages alone these guys] should dump everything and hope [they just don't] get caught. At [over $100k and] $600k [they are] screwed for life if [they get] caught. But as dasanman69 states, if having the forethought to make good decisions was within their capacity it's unlike they would have robbed these stores in the first place.
[quote] In one of the more extreme cases, a burglar crashed into the glass front of a California Apple Store with a BMW X5, causing $600,000 in damage.[/quote]
Surely it would make more sense to lob an iMac through a glass window to steal a BMW X5
A meteor is an asteroid or other object that burns and vaporizes upon entry into the Earth's atmosphere; meteors are commonly known as "shooting stars." If a meteor survives the plunge through the atmosphere and lands on the surface, it's known as a meteorite.
PS: If one is being pedantic I'd say that asteroid do enter the atmosphere but if and when such an occurrence happens we then call these asteroids meteors.

A door made of glass was smashed in "Boulder"? Fitting... next time go for paper Apple, everyone knows paper beats rock!
It's not longer an asteroid when it enters the atmosphere.
He wouldn't be breaking into stores if his life wasn't already screwed.

It was only $64K not $600K. Just sayin.....
Either way, he'll get caught. They'll do something even MORE stupid.
The article says he caused $600k in damages.

Better head over to Wikipedia. You are probably confusing asteroids with meteors.

No the OP I replied to is confused. Asteroids don't enter our atmosphere.
I think you need to me more detailed and thorough with your answer.
Here is a resource that is good: http://www.livescience.com/27183-asteroid-meteorite-meteor-meteoroid.html

Sounds like another reason not to get a Microsoft Surface...
