Apple's iPhone 5s tops sales charts at big 4 US carriers, iPhone 5c close behind
Cupertino's flagship iPhone 5s was the best-selling smartphone for all four major U.S. carriers ??AT&T, Sprint, Verizon, and T-mobile ??while the new iPhone 5c followed closely behind, according to new tracking data.

Apple's new flagship iPhone 5s and mid-range iPhone 5c were both among the top three sellers for the big four United States wireless carriers in September, investment bank Canaccord Genuity said Friday. The Touch ID-enabled iPhone 5s and new, colorful iPhone 5c took first and second place, respectively, for AT&T and Sprint but the iPhone 5c was pushed down one notch by Samsung's Galaxy S4 at Verizon and T-Mobile retailers.
The new iPhones vaulted Apple back atop the leader board as the top-selling smartphone vendor in the United States in September, a position held by Samsung for the preceding three months. Helping the company along were reportedly healthy sales of the three-year-old iPhone 4S, which customers can get for free on a two-year contract.
Canaccord notes that their research showed "very strong initial sales and back orders for the iPhone 5s and strong iPhone 5c sales" in both the U.S. and international markets. The devices launched to record-breaking sales numbers in their late September opening weekend and demand still far outstrips supply for the iPhone 5s.
The bank believes that Samsung's upcoming Note 3, which has polarized technology journalists and consumers alike with reports of benchmark cheating and region locking, "should compete very well" against Apple's handsets. The future looks much more bleak for smaller competitors like HTC, BlackBerry, and Motorola, all three of whom Canaccord believes gave up share in the "high-tier smartphone market" to Apple.
According to the report, September brought "very weak" demand for HTC's flagship HTC One, while the Taiwanese company posted the first quarterly loss in its history earlier Friday. The story was similar for BlackBerry, which saw "very soft" sales of its new Z10 and Q10, and Motorola, where sales for its refreshed Droid lineup declined after Apple's new iPhones became available.

Let's see who be will be the doom doom douche.
I expect AAPL to drop a few more points on this terrible news.
There is a sea of green out there, virtually every damn tech stock is up today, but AAPL? Nope, you'd almost think that it was the worst damn performing company in the entire world, and should be avoided like the plague. I don't think that the weekly options casino game is doing AAPL any good at all. AAPL is the biggest cap company around, so there's a lot of money at stake, so it's more important for the MM's to pin AAPL at certain levels, than it is for them to control and manipulate smaller stocks.
All this damn green, and look at who is red? How surprising! Not!
I still think the iPhone 5C will be a huge hit this holiday season. Instead of buying 1 phone for $199, you can get 2 for that price and I think that's huge to parents who have children that want an iPhone, but are on a budget for Christmas spending. Plus, they can pick out a color, a case, etc.
Finally. Some actual stats.
When will some of us ever get our 5s? I ordered a gold one as soon as I could which was about 30 minutes after they went on sale online and still am seeing a 4 to 6 week estimate on shipping. Had I known it would take that long I would have ordered a different color and been using it by now. I hope Apple can speed things up a bit because that is a very long time to wait.
But, but, but, but..... no one's buying the 5C? Apple simply stuffed the channels. /s
Since it's September sales and the phone went on sale on the 20th, a lot of the 5c sales could be legitimate channel refilling. We'll see in October. The 5c is widely available and Best Buy just announced a promotion on it, which is unusual so early. My guess is that it is selling OK (about as well as the 5 would have if Apple had stayed true to form), but not as well as Apple would have liked.
... healthy sales of the three-year-old iPhone 4S ...
The 4S is two years old. October 2011 release.
only the brainless thought the 5C would not sell
I didn't see anyone saying that the 5c would not sell.
I guess Samsnug is relegated to the middle market.

It doesn't work that way. You have to pay for an additional line an additional voice plan, and an increase in the data plan (if you're using a family plan).
go jump off a cliff.
The stats are as clear as day yet you still don't want to give the 5c any credit. You say wait till Oct. If they have great sales in Oct you will say wait till Nov.....
What stats? Apple hasn't and likely won't release a product split. Most of the activation data that's been posted suggests extremely high demand for the 5s. Plus, the 5c is being discounted already at places like Best Buy, which has precedent. In January, Best Buy ran a $200 promotion on the rMBP. A month later, Apple came out with a minor refresh and slashed the price. This could be Apple doing the same thing. The 5s will sell itself because it's the latest and greatest. If you notice, almost all the advertising out there is for the 5c. Apple is trying to expand its market, and it isn't yet clear if they've succeeded in doing so. If it turns out that the 5c draws people in and they leave with the 5s, that's great. But even in that case they'll need to normalize production of the 5c.
A more interesting stat will be how they does against other phones in October.
I don't think there is any question that the 5s will remain in top spot.
It will be interesting if the 5c can retain 2nd spot when on sale for the entire month.
The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 is being released in October. I wonder if it will climb to number 2 or 3.
As far as 5C sales, this news isn't at all impressive. But I'm sure Apple is happy that the more expensive higher margin 5S is selling better than the 5C.
With all of the marketing dollars and ads for the 5C one would think it would be selling at a higher rate than the 5S, but I guess the cost savings of $100 isn't enough to make the 5C a more attractive option for buyers over the 5S.

True, but the carriers are pushing shared plans right now. A lot more people might be tempted to add a line.
