Stop. Just stop. YOU are the one acting "holier than thou" with your blanket condemnation of all jailbreakers. I'm among those who have jailbroken and I have never once pirated an app. Why the hell would I bother to save 99 cents?!? I jailbreak to have a customized phone. And it's my phone, I'm allowed to do whatever I want to it regardless of how much control of my life you want to have. Try learning to live and let live, and stop condemning others who don't do exactly as you would do.

Wait, was he talking about people who jailbreak or the ones who create the breaks themselves? That’s an important distinction.

    You’d be surprised. <img class=" src="http://forums-files.appleinsider.com/images/smilies//lol.gif" />

I guess the fact that your phone is limited by forces far greater than Apple makes you livid every second of every day, huh. Bet you wish you could IMEI spoof or use your phone to make free international calls, and it’s just eating you up inside. :p

Such anger and emotion over something that doesn’t effect you in the least. The apps that I use on Cydia are either free or paid just like the Apple app store. So the developers on Cydia get paid just like they do on the official store. What evidence do you have to suggest most people that JB are using pirated apps?

If these apps or functions that they enable were available on a stock iPhone or in the app store then I would see no need to JB. But I like the added control and options that allow me to select my own default apps, my own keyboard, and so many other nice options only available through jailbreaking. The percentage of people that JB is a small minority so I doubt Apple really gives a hoot about this small subset of users. But I would imagine without the ability to JB many would go to Android so I think the JB is helping Apple to keep these people in the fold. You don’t want to JB then don’t. But please stop trying to equate anyone that chooses to do so as unethical, immoral or even illegal because that is just silly.

Your apologist nonsense does not address why a provider of pirated Apps is sponsoring a jail breaking team.

You’re either a liar or a complete fool. There are no other options.

What do you mean there are no options?

I'm continuing to use my jailbroken 4S until there was a jailbreak for the 5S

and yes my 5S was not being used since day one

i restored it from iCloud backup when I got it

played with the touch id (very nice)

and left it as is since then till yesterday when I jailbroke it

Why would I lie about something so trivial?

We've been hearing that since the first jailbreak :)

they try, but as with any piece of software, it's never 100%

add to that all the major changes from ios 4 to ios 5 to 6 etc

they are bound to leave a few faults, that are found by the jail break crews

why does it bother some people here that jail breaking exists?

if you don't like it, don't use it

at the end of the day as long as it sells more apple phones, the better for apple

I find it highly assuming that you think I'm psychotic that I don't use the iphone 5S when it comes out.

reminds me of the old apple ad making fun of the PC users who were portrayed as lemmings, all following each other of the cliff.

remember when apple stood for "being different"?

So if I don't use the phone in exactly the same way apple sells it I'm psychotic?

in that case I have no problem being that way.

Tia a bit weird to buy it and not use it at all. Not psychotic exactly, but why didn't you just wait for the jailbreak before buying it? Would seem to be less hassle (given limited availability at launch) and you'd possibly get a better deal a few months in?

Not sure buying it as a fancy table ornament is what Apple means by "Think different" :)

Because normally when they release a jailbreak. It's only for the earlier versions of the firmware.

with the iphone 4, the early firmware versions could be unlocked, the later ones could not.

As soon as apple finds out about the jail break, they update all the new phones they make, so when I buy from a store after the jail break, I won't know if its the jail breakable version or the updated one, that can't be jailbroken.

Besides there is never a price break for the top end model from apple. It's been $199 since the dropped the price of the first iphone and gave out $100 gift cards.

Good reasoning on the firmware, I didn't think of that.

In the UK the price levels don't change much, but if you wait even just a couple of months the contracts can offer more stuff (minutes, data, bundles) for the same price. Sucks if everything stays static where you are.

It’s all about inflated egos. It’s all about being told you can’t do something so, by god, you’re going to do it anyway just to show how self-important you are. It’s all about showing off in front of people to make them think you are better than they are.

Having said that both of my sons jailbroke their iPhones just to see if they could do it. Neither saw any value or advantage to it and returned their iPhones to normal status. I think that’s the rule, not the exception.

I agree. A Fandroid friend of mine said (before he turned to evil) that he didn't like "Steve Jobs telling him what he can and can't do with his hardware." He proceeded to buy some kind of Nexus or whatever--he changes phones every 6 months to stay 1337--and root it and run Cyanogen mod, just to be like the cool kids. But he's otherwise an adult.

Been doing that for years, here's a tip rather than leaving your phone on a night stand, learn how to use the freaking thing ;)

Another consideration is also to use your upgrade date to get a subsidy as soon as you possibly can. The reason for that is every day you don’t use your subsidy you are basically paying your carrier extra money without the benefit of a new phone. As soon as you get a new phone your upgrade counter rolls over which means only 20 months in my case until my next upgrade credit. So that also probably figured in his decision. Some people don’t have an iPhone 5s and apparently take offense at it not being used immediately. ;-)

And can you also change the icons on the stock iOS 7?

or did you just pick one tiny statement to display your fan boyism?

Assuming this rumour is true I'd say it's likely because they are unethical and greedy (two things that tend to go hand in hand). However, we shouldn't lump all developers who jailbreak into the same category; that would be like saying all stockbrokers are Ponzi scheme-running thieves because of Bernie Madoff.

One statement that stood out like dog's balls as either a blatant lie or gross ignorance.

    So which was it?

I'll respond to that after you tell me if you could change icons with the stock ios 7 or not :)

i like how you avoided answering the comment that reveals your ignorance, but you're still clutching at straws with my comment about the custom ringtones and yes I prefer to have file level access to my iphone. And copy my ringtones back to the device, without needing to connect it to iTunes everytime.

    You made the statement.

    A blatant lie?

    Gross ignorance?

No use clutching at straws going off on a tangent.

Which is it, lying or idiocy?

Comprehension is obviously not your strong point

i made 7 statements about the merits of jailbreaking, not one.

you picked one, about the ringtones (clutching at straws)

    and ignored the other 6

if you're such a smart ass, why didn't you comment about the other 6?

not so smart now are ya!
