Tallest Skil, I absolutely insist that you restore the posts of mine you deleted! Now! It's bad enough that we have D.E.D. parading around here masquerading as a user, insulting anyone who questions him, but for you to delete every post that questions your judgement is both the absolute height of chicken-shittedness and contrary to the most basic concept of open discourse.

Stop abusing your role as a moderator or I start contacting advertisers about the bullshit you're pulling here. Seriously. You are WAY out of line.

Yes. Twice I have posted a position contrary to Tallest Skil, and twice the post has simply been deleted. In another he edited my post to remove the first third.

I fully appreciate that my views are often unpopular here, but that doesn't make it okay to delete my posts. It's also VERY telling that he is selectively deleting anything that is critical of HIM.

    1) Why do you think he has a separate account just for moderating the forum?

    2) Getting posts deleted, which has happened to me, isn't about a popular v unpopular position. It's typically about crossing a line, usually in the form of going after the poster v going after the post. Note: I'm not commenting on any specific post you've made that was deleted since I haven't read them. I'm only pointing out how it tends to work.

    3) I think TS has more to complain about regarding inconsistent handling of forum members than probably anyone here which as best as I can make out has gwmac at the center of it.

Frankly, your posts deserve to be deleted.

I think I did read those posts, and while I agreed with some of the ideas, they were personal and insulting.

I don't like the "Shut Up" posts either but those posts are not really ad hominens.

Anyway TS isn't a mod and when he was I didn't notice him deleting my posts and I never agree with the guy.

Hilarious. Also apparently acceptable for you to take shots and insult others. I'd respond in kind, but what's the point? You'd just have it removed within five minutes.

I'm not still unclear on how TS will have it removed.

Not sure where I did that. If I’m abrupt, short, forward–whatever you want to call it–with the truth, then that’s the truth. Who cares how it’s presented? I only actually insult in extreme situations. For example, far more often than not, when I call someone an idiot (notice I never called you that, nor am I doing so now), it’s because they are actually following the definition of the word.

Really? Do you really think it appropriate to appoint yourself arbiter of what is and is not acceptable? Would you stand next to me in a room and tell me that I may not speak?

What exactly is it about what I have written that leads you to feel it should be removed? Serious question.

Beats me. Isn't (s)he a moderator? Who else would remove my posts and why?

So many people still think so; who am I to disagree? Now where’s that magic button…

    1) Site moderators and administrators have a label under their username to denote increased authority on the forum.

    2) Who would do it? I suppose someone else that actually moderates or administrates the site who felt your comments were in violation.

    3) It sounds like you were saying TS was deleting your comments despite plenty of replies on this thread of him quoting you. Why would he (or anyone) do both?

    4) Personally, I wish mods wouldn't delete posts by non-spam users, but rather remove all the content and insert some replacement text like "This comment has been removed for failing to abide by the rules and regulations of AppleInsider [link to their rules and regulations] yada yada yada." This would not only keep the rules fresh in all posters minds but it would also keep the flow better than having entire poster removed from a conversation, and have the moderator's name and date in the edited by area of the post.

Eh, that clutters things up. What I’d love is a notification system to tell users WHY their posts were deleted, rather than just the mod notes that can be applied.

Wait, maybe Huddler has that. Been so long. I know they don’t have it for bans, temporary or otherwise.

…and have the moderator’s name and date in the edited by area of the post.

Apparently that only shows up if a mod does it. What I’d like to see is it showing up if that user does it, too. Like in every other forum software. Ever made.

I have a record of what was said in my email.

    Here's my polite paraphrasing.

"I know you don't like big screens but other people do ( and don't you only own the first gen?)"

In fact I generally wouldn't bother with the parenthesis.

As I said I agree with the sentiment. V5v however was opining about "ridiculous crap spewing from your nonsense hole". So that's the reason. Reported. Deleted.

Not that TS is an angel. Shut up.

Posts or parts of them that are critical of other members directly are off-topic. Insults are removed as are posts that aren't going to keep the thread on topic such as:

"Aw Honey, is that old blow to the head coming back to haunt you again? It's okay Dear, I know you're trying, but "Insider" does not mean the same thing as "fan." Maybe we should look into adjusting your dosage so that painfully obvious points like that don't keep slipping through, hm?

Well "fan" sure as hell doesn't equal "objective," now does it? It's the very definition of biased.

No, how about YOU shut up for a change? That crap that's dripping out of your nozzle today is even more ridiculous than usual. Go watch Olympics or play with your key something. Whatever keeps you away from here."

The topic of the thread is "Apple prepping bezel-free design". Not one part of that post had anything to do with the topic. Posts get removed and edited back to a point where it's going to stay on topic. Sometimes topics skew to something else and as long as it's civilized it's ok but arguing is not constructive. There is a degree of interpretation as to what posts are on topic enough but I try not to stifle the conversation.

Tallest Skil hasn't removed any posts, it's pretty much always me and there isn't any preferred treatment given to one member over another. When two people don't get along, they both think the other is being treated better because they haven't been banned yet. People don't get banned or posts deleted for having one opinion or another because moderating is not about curating opinions, it's about maintaining civil discussion. If people don't want to engage with another member, that's what the ignore list is for. I don't really get why members who can't stand other members refuse to put them on their block list but I think some people like to screen the posts to find instances of them breaking the rules to try and get them permanently banned. That's not really helpful.

As for leaving reasons for deletion, it uses up too much space and would be very time consuming. I just removed the last 16 posts about this issue as it's just serving to derail the thread completely and if I had to edit every one instead of doing a batch delete, it would take far too long and it gives people a reason to argue with every decision. You have to trust that moderators are acting in the best interests of the forum and I'm happy to justify the decisions I make but when posts are clearly off-topic, the reason for deletion shouldn't need to be questioned.

That's the most reasonable mockup: 4.5" screen, 16:9 aspect ratio and standard 720p resolution (retina display or 326 dpi) without increasing the phone size. I still believe in this one more than any other purported, concept or mockup ones.
