My first post. Sorry if I am redundant.

Just a little factoid which might be interesting. You all remember that beloved pact between Microsuck and Apple a couple years back? The one where Microsoft got some Apple stock and agreed to make Office 2001 etc. Well.... (tension builds) here is a juicy factoid. That deal was for 5 years. Guess what month and what year it expires? Good guess. So in July I wouldn't doubt that Apple has some new licensing/anti-microsoft propaganda. The ceasefire is over. Not to say we'll see a full drawn out 'cock fight' (since a big selling point of the new image of Apple is "We have MS Office too!!!") but I do expect to see some new anti-OS oriented ads. Remember the delightful iMac ads that poked fun of how PCs were dinosaurs, confusing and costly? Well I hope to see more of this type advertising for whatever they have in the future.

My predictions? Hum.. I'm an optimist, but also a realist (and no that's not a contradiction). I would say reved up G4s. No new G5, but perhaps G4s with DDR. I don't see a new digital hub device so soon after the introduction of the iPod. I see the OS 10.2 update going public, and also revision to at least one of the iSoftware products (iPhoto, iDvd etc.). I also expect a big hubabalo about Quicktime 6. There will be a new game announced (by some third party) which will kick much booty. Also I predict that we will say goodbye to the low end models of either the iMac or PowerMac line but as compensation a minor price drop. Did I forget anything? Oh yah, lastly Steve will carry on about the revised eMac and their goals in the Education industry.

Hope my first post is interesting and maybe gets a respone. Thanks!

Whoops! Oh my gosh! I swear I hadn't visited Apple.com today. I just went there and saw their new marketing thingy. LOL! I can't believe how acurate I was. Wow... that's all I can say. Sorry to put up a second post but I figured it would save a dozen "no duh's".

Hmmm... I'm inclined to believe that there is something secret with this Macworld. I think there's something up Apple's sleeve. What better time to blow the doors open than at the beginning of a new campaign where Apple has a bold new advertising strategy where users move from PC to Mac, and where Apple plans on having PC's IN their stores to compare alongside Apple's offerings. Also with all those buy-ups of hard-core software houses. And also with the announcement of Jaguar, what the hell else are they going to do? I just think that something else has happened behind the scenes. It doesn't have much to do with Motorola either. Just a guess of course.

    Realistic:

    Dual 1.2Ghz G4's

DDR hack, or full DDR, could go either way.

    iMac (maybe) 933-1Ghz

    --

What I would like to see:

    Dual 1.4Ghz G4's

    Full DDR FSB

-$500 from top, with equal ratio of decreases on the lower end's.

The reason they dropped is not just falling sales, they also made way to much product and so they have a lot of excess inventory which will have to be sold at a loss.

Macworld NY 2002 is going to be a big event for Apple. They are going to make a big deal out of it and spend a shitload of money advertising in NYC, especially with I(Apple)NY signs and posters from the new campaign. They may also do a nother countdown/tease on the website.

    Why?

    1.) PowerMac Update

It's gonna be a big one. Significant architecture changes. Whether it is a G4 or a G5 the PowerMac is getting DDR frontside and memory buses. The motherboard will be completely redesigned. 66Mhz PCI slots will make their way into the towers. Duals will be more abundant and they will make a big deal of the added bandwidth to feed the 2 processors. A new case will be unveiled that takes many characteristics of the Powerbook and XServe. the front will have usb and firewire ports.

    Spec predictions:

    1Ghz, 1.2Ghz, 1.4Ghz

    single, dual, dual

    256MB RAM, 512 MB RAM, 1GB RAM

    80GB HD, 100GB HD, 120GB HD

    Superdrive Standard

Geforce 4 MX, Geforce 4MX, Geforce 4 Ti

    Gigabit Ethernet Standard

266Mhz DDR Buses (possible 333 but unlikely)

3 Firewire Ports- 2 on back and one on front

5 USB ports- 3 on back and 2 on front

Enhanced audio capabilities (possibility of some sort of Appl endorsed 4.1 sound system)

    ATA/100 Standard

    AGP 4X

New 2 button mouse with wheel

    $1699, $2299, $2999

    2.) New updated iMac

-Major change will be the addition of a Special Edition 17 inch Model. this model will have all the same specs except for a 17 inch LCD and a 1Ghz G4.

    Spec predictions:

    15 inch, 15 inch, 17 inch

    Combo, Superdrive, Superdrive

    60GB, 80GB, 80GB

    128 MB, 256MB, 256MB

    Geforce 2MX 32 MB Standard

    800Mhz, 933Mhz, 1Ghz

    133Mhz Bus Standard

    $1499, $1799, $2199

    3.) iPod

-major changes are the addition of a remote on the headphone line, cheaper prices, and a 20GB model.

    5GB, 10GB, 20GB

    $299, $399, $499

    4.) mac OS X: jaguar

-Complete demo. Revealing new features and announcing release date which will be late August.

5.) Big announcement... One more thing

    - Apple will unveil a digital camera/camcorder. it'll be hard drive based and be claimed as the first consumer tapeless camcorder. It'll use Toshiba's 20GB 1.8 inch HD and record in your option of MPEG 4 or MPEG 2. It'll also have a several megapixel lense for digital photos and will be very small but not too small to make it hard to handle. It'll link via firewire to iMovie 3 and iPhoto. 2 Hours of video will transfer in minutes.

-Not sure if it'll be the same camera or an additional kritter like camera but there will be an announcement that iChat will have MPEG 4 video conferencing. Apple will sell cameras and any third party firewire camera will work as well. Streaming will require broadband.

    There you have it.

Doesn't MPEG 4 have too high CPU requirements for a camcorder?

I'd hope that they move the iMac G4 to a GeForce 4 MX, so that it's a little better prepared for future games.

    From thought or from friend?

Also, what about SuperDrive2? I thought panasonic (or whoever does our drives) had a faster drive out. Also, I read that Apple won't release FireWire2 yet because it wasn't ready and won't do USB2 yet because there isn't any devices for it yet.

    Otherwise hell yea

1.)considering there are camcorders that record and play MPEG 2 right now and I have read about coming cameras that will record in MPEG4 I don't think it'll be a problem but I hinestly don't know. Maybe someone does. I think a dedicated chip is possible

2.) So would I but this is the company that shipped rage 128s in the iMac up until January 2002.

    just thoughts.

Haven't heard about a superdrive 2. I guess it's logical to assume a faster version will become avilable at some point but even so, Apple may stick with the older one if its cheaper.

I think Firewire 2 will make the cut. should have added that. USB 2 will not be on any machine IMO.

    Pimped out powermac

    ibook revamp

    jaguar

    iapp updates

    new idevice

there's gonna be some stuff using bluetooth, and firewire 2.

    -call me an optimist

i don't think apple is going to risk a crap show this year, and clearing away the other stuff says to me that they're not going to disappoint this time with a lamp.

    The big 3 announcements

-Powermac G4's at ~1.4 GHz, DDRAM, etc.

-Mac OSX Jaguar. Apple starts marketing OS names with cool names instead of dot-2 or dot-5 or whatever. Available immediately.

    -OSX professional level audio suite.

    For predictions, skip rant:

[rant]How about a god damn G4 iBook? For cryin' out loud, this is such an elementary request. The 14-inch iBook sucks for what you get. Redesign it and give a freakin' G4, for Pete's sake. [/rant]

    Predictions:

---> New PMG4's - 1 GHz low end, dual 1 GHz mid, dual 1.2 GHz high - new enclosure - faster bus than xServe.

---> Speed bump for iMac probably to 833 and 933 MHz, 133 MHz bus, 256 MB RAM standard

---> Lower pricing on eMac; iMac G3 CRT discontinued

---> Jagwire demoed to the hilt; Quicktime 6 and Broadcaster focus - MPEG 4 licensing status; shipping date announced - late-August. Cost: $99.

---> Apple demos additional spots re: their new "switch" campaign; integrated spots highlighting Jagwire (and it's capabilities).

    WOW FACTORS:

---> New Airport technology - 54 MB - father reception capability

---> New Digital Megapixel Still and Video Camcorder using a 40 GB hard disk - pricing $1,799 or higher. iPod battery technology.

WOW FACTOR BUT MORE OF A WISH LIST (with probably not a snowball's chance in hell of happening)

---> Maybe iBook Special Edition with G4? (please, Apple!) Let's wait for o'Grady to wip out that fantastic source that accurately nailed the timing of the forthcoming iBook and PowerBook G4 rev's recently.

    No G5 (unless they call a G4 bump a G5)

    PM G4 1GB, 1.2GIG Dual, 1.5 Dual

    White and Ti cases

    (same prices, maybe DDR RAM)

    iMac 17" 1GB

    ($2000)

    19" LCD Display

    ($1500, No more 22")

    iPod

    5GB

    ($299)

A new do-dad ala iPod for video.
