There's a version of Ad Sense that scans the source page the ad appears on for keywords. It's not a coincidence. It's 100% Google.
So what are the other 10-plus ad services and 14+ trackers that I temporarily allowed doing here at AI? To paraphase it's only evil to some folks if it's Google. . .

Surely you know why Google is considered "evil" and those others aren't. They simply aren't big enough to be household names. The real "evil" people refer are just being being used as internet cattle, like with sites like AI, herding our usage data. The main difference between them and Google is Google's success as being able to package a service that is profitable to them because of advertisers but free to users. There is nothing inherently wrong with that model but it's certainly something people should be concerned about.
Thank God I held off purchasing. I'm still waiting for Honeywell to catch-up so I can rip out my Nest units
Ahem.... Honeywell is the leader, going back way before Nest. (See Honeywell's easy-to-use Prestige 2.0 and new 3.0 thermostats with remote access, plus the innovative new Lyric.) Nest has been jumping through hoops trying to catch up and circumvent Honeywell's long-standing patents.
The Nest is a nice looking lump on the wall, but it's UI is on par with the Samsung Galaxy Gear.

The Ad Sense feature that selects ads based the page content is in fact the relevant feature behind the "ironic" ads noted by others in the forums. Your list is a smokescreen designed to divert attention. You're like a bad magician, in need of more practice!
Are people ever going to understand that Google is an advertising company, not a technology company? Apple makes products that help us. Google just wants to shove ads in our faces 24/7/365. Nest is conscious about privacy with a frick’in VIDEO CAMERA in your home? What are they going to do? Send you advertising based upon what you do in your bedroom at night?
Apple makes products to make money off you, just like any other company. If they felt they could make more money mining your data, they would do so in a heart beat.
Dropcam use Amazon AWS for data storage, with the worse bitrate for lowest possibly quality due to network upstream of most people being low internet connections.
Now google may want it moved to their own data storage and offer a almost 0 cost plan to effectively kill most competition. World domination!
Dropcam always a pure VC company always looking for a cash out!
Also how does this fair with Dropcam being sold in apple stores! guess this will be something for someone to think about.

It’s pretty scary that some people actually believe this.

If it makes you a little happier to believe Google is 100% behind everything then don't let inconvenient facts get in the way of that. IMHO Quantcast might have a little to do with it tho. They've had their own issues of course and a search for "Quantcast privacy lawsuit" will offer details if you have any interest. https://www.quantcast.com/advertise
You don't think anyone within the company would even consider it? Of course they would.
What is it exactly that you find scary?
Of course Apple would consider mining their users' data. They already do it. This fact seems to get forgotten around here fairly often. Anyone who doubts this just needs to review Apple's privacy policy. Obviously it's not Apple's main source of revenue, but they are also newer to the data mining business then behemoths like Google.

So lawsuits are evil now?
You know the forum meme: it's only evil when Apple does it™.

You conveniently omitted DoubleClick from your list. Why?
Is it because it is owned by Google?
All those other services are irrelevant.
DoubleClick is the only real revenue generating agency in the list.
Perhaps they forgot to mention DED's wardrobe provided by Men's Warehouse.
Because I was posting about the other ad providers on this site other than Google.

Oh my, this home security device was on my to buy shortlist.
Now it's dropped; I've had enough of Google or any other facility spying on me.

Funny how these people play with monopoly money.

Explain to the class what makes you think they couldn’t make more money–right now–by doing so, then, that keeps them from it?

They may not have the infrastructure or the talent for it. See Apple Maps.
PR backlash, probably.

You suggested just such a purchase several months ago. Still makes sense for the same reasons too IMO.

"I'd like to see the Nest folks get into this area (and more), their products and software are always taken the the 'next level' and the most Apple like of anything out there"
You weren't the only one to suggest it either.
