Dr. Dre accepts ALS ice bucket challenge, nominates fellow rappers

The ice bucket challenge to raise awareness and funds for the ALS Association continued at Apple on Monday, with Dr. Dre accepting CEO Tim Cook's dare on the set of his upcoming movie "Straight Outta Compton."

Posted to the Beats by Dre YouTube channel, the video shows Dre getting soaked with the help of director Gary Gray, who is working with the rapper and new Apple employee on the upcoming NWA biopic "Straight Outta Compton," to be released next year.

Dre, whose real name is Andre Young, came out seemingly unfazed after taking on ice cold water from a 50 gallon bucket. Like viral video of Microsoft founder Bill Gates, Dre rigged a special apparatus to hold the bucket, with Gray doing the honors of tipping over the huge trash can with a rope.

As per the game's rules, Dre challenged Eminem, Snoop Dogg and Kendrick Lamar to get doused, donate to ALSA or both.

The first Apple exec to take on the ice bucket challenge was marketing chief Phil Schiller last week. Schiller nominated Cook, who made good on the deal at a beer bash on Apple's campus and subsequently challenged Dre, Disney chief Bob Iger and musician Michael Franti.

Those interested in donating to the cause -- with or without ice water -- can do so via the association's website.

Okay I think this ice bucket challenge has run its course. Do we really need to see another video of a celebrity dumping ice water on their head?

I'd say more like 15 gallons on that bucket, not 50. Probably filled 2/3, so 10 gallons.

So was the slo-mo, which was really great, done with a 5s? Let's have some reporting here.

Wait! Is this some kind of joke? If you listen to "Straight Outta Compton", you know it starts with Ice Cube rapping... So Dre dumps a lot of ice cubes over him? What's the punchline? :D

Well, it is Dr. Dre, so there is an Apple connection. The previous stories were for Phil and Tim, so again, Apple connection.

I didn't bother to watch the videos, so I see no point in watching them and complaining, or complaining and watching!

I wonder why nobody challenged Sir Ive. Everyone is probably shit scared of him!!

Would've been more fitting if he nominated Icecube.

At least it was done with a decent amount of water and good contraption to dump it, although I had wished there would have been some elaborate Rube Goldbergish setups.

Just pretend that it's a viral promotion for a for-profit corporation making more money for people who don't need it rather than an altruistic cause for people who do.

Speaking of old, Dre looks old in that video. I think they're going to have to start heating the water up a little or one of these old-timers is going to have a heart attack. Also, I hope that watch of his was either not expensive or was waterproof.

It's Sir Jony actually. If you're knighted you use your first name, if you're a Lord then you use your surname.

I really liked that Cook challenged Iger, because it opened the door to the MCU. Chris Pratt's video was pretty funny.
