I think it's a clever spot and a worthy charity. Nothing wrong with a little good natured competition. Hopefully Apple can think of a clever way to respond.
Well the point of the Ice Bucket Challenge is that if you're challenged you either dunk or donate. Apple could respond by saying "Instead of marketing gimmicks, we'll just donate $10 million to ALS. See you on September 9th, Samsung."
I'm sure they do. And you know one thing they take into consideration? What people want. I want my iPhone to be waterproof. Other people do too. From what you're saying now, it seem you're not against the idea, though it's not a priority for you. That's fine, you can have your priorities, but let other people have theirs without the superior attitude pls.
I also know one other thing that Apple also doesn't take into consideration, what people want. Apple is famous, especially under Steve Jobs of course, for doing what they think is best, and that formula has indeed been very successful for Apple.
You are correct, I am not against the idea, I just don't see it as being on top of the priority list at the moment.

Samsung's followup ad should be declaring that 500 million iPhones sold aren't as waterproof as the S5, and that they'll donate $100 to ALS for each one.
Great idea....or maybe something along the lines of donating $1 for every new iPhone 6 they sell in the month of (whatever month they come out)! A lot of people see the Ice bucket Challenge as just a gimmick, but I lost my father to ALS so this hits close to home for me. I have not done the ice bucket myself, but instead donated $1,500 to ALS research...taking the plunge with the ice water is great to raise awareness, but at the end of the day money is needed to advance the research that will lead to a cure for this terrible disease. I would be thrilled if Apple stepped up and did something big, like what you suggested.
I was probably the first person to drop an iPhone in the toilet...before they offered AppleCare... But early enough that Amex paid for a new one.
Pulled the phone out and it was still on. Tried to turn it off but couldn't swipe the wet screen. Phone died in my hand and I may have wept a little.
Dropped another one in a pitcher of beer. Dead immediately.
Waterproof would be a nice feature.
Given your history I'd suggest not waiting and trying out a waterproof case. I used an Otterbox Armor on a recent 11 day mountain backpack. No service of course so the phone was largely just stored, but the Armor has some good waterproof specs IIRC and is a far easier case to get the device in and out of than their Defender cases with two easily manipulated metal latches clamping it shut. The downside for everyday use is you lose Touch ID.

LOL... I certainly should. I've had a dozen different cases over the years but I just don't like them. Bought my wife a life proof (can still use touch id). She isn't as tough on it as I am but the lil kids tend to get ahold of it. Down side to life proof is it only accepts the small apple made cables not the bigger third party ones. Couldn't bring myself to by a $40 six footer so i through on a usb extender. It also won't fit on our iHome without an adapter and apparently there are no good adapters.
I thought the point of pouring ice water over your head was to simulate the feeling of having ALS. So it's a way for you to sort of experience how someone with ALS feels (even if only for a minute). How does this apply to a phone? The phone feels nothing.
So you dropped your phone in a pitcher of beer and a toilet? Luckily, I don't ever have to worry about either of those. It's odd you do...
Wasn't at the same time! LOL 1st bent over to turn off the water to the toilet and it slid right out of my shirt pocket. Beer incident occurred when I was passing it to show a picture. oops. maybe we had a few too many.
I spent 4 hours today helping an elderly (and very enthusiastic) person with her HP laptop running Ubuntu (after Windows failed to run adequately), an iPad mini, and her Samsung phone. She said she's getting a Samsung tablet so "everything is tied together". We spent 2 to 3x as much time figuring out how to do things on the phone as on the iPad. Yet she seems to be convinced that "going Samsung" for everything is the right choice. Good luck to her! Maybe she needs an ice bucket poured over her head. :P
Could anyone else not understand a single thing that phone said? Mac OS 7 spoke better.
I agree. I'm surprised they were proud to promote this with such a poor presentation. Couldn't even see the bucket, just some ice cubes and a few drops of water. Overall, a poorly-done ad. Rushed out.
It's not a person, amazing how much market samsung is loosing. Ever advert doesn't even focus on the feature but mainly Apples iPhone. Also no one from samsung took the challenge so they should keep quite because they aren't donating or doing it themselves.

I beg to differ. Apple DOES take into consideration what people what and what people have repeatedly shown over the years is that they want the quality that only Apple brings to the table

That's cute.
No. ITS NOT.

A troll ad that has accomplished just what ads are supposed to do- get people talking about it. Good or bad.
Very clever. Made me chuckle and raises awareness of ALS.
Apple could follow this up with the bucket of cash...." Why did we do this ?..because we can. See you on 9th Sept."
I'll be impressed when they do an ice bucket challenge on their photocopier
How is this a response? It's mocking Microsoft's copying skills.
Can't wait to see them spend billions bashing Beats while Beats spends.... nothing.
