If I were even more suspicious of Samsung than I already am, I might wonder out loud if Samsung was also somehow connected to the very unusual timing behind the celebrity photo blowup... With their deep and rich history of theft and bribery I might not be surprised by anything they are willing to do.
This is what Andy Hargreaves at Pacific Crest said:

“Unless next week’s event details massive incremental profit opportunities, we are likely to downgrade [AAPL].”

One, when has an Apple event ever done that? And two, that just a concern now and wasn't when the stock was run up to record highs?

How is this display "flexible"?  The article mentions this a couple times.  It looks pretty rigid to me.  Curvature does not equal flexibility.

IFA isn't going to cause a 4% drop. When Samsung announced the Galaxy S 5 Apple stock barely moved. Had Pacific Crest not released a note this morning saying sell I doubt the stock would be down that much. But I do find there timing suspect.

I wasn't referring to the drop. Just the the timing. Sorry for not making this clear.

Again, I can't see anything suspicious regarding the timing of Samsung other than the possibility that they make use of the IFA being locked off usually few days before the iPhone update gets announced. I guess independent of apple that is the place and time to showcase new gear.

Regarding the timing of the Pacific Crest note I barely see this as coincidence. So we might be in agreement after all :)

Anyway I stopped following all analyst/stock related releases during the pre-announcement time period as it's hard not to be disgusted by the more or less obvious and successful attempts to influence the stock.

Exactly! It's like saying a light bulb uses flexible glass. No it does not.

OT: Apple stock down almost 4% this morning because an analyst came out and said sell the stock and if next week isn't a blowout they will be downgrading the stock. I find the timing of all this stuff very curious. Especially this sell note coming the same day Samsung releases new phones. All over Twitter I'm seeing people attribute the drop to Samsung's announcement.

In honesty, regardless or whether it's practical or will work, I appreciate the fact that it's the first seemingly 'original' looking Samsung phone design. Even though I do not quite understand the reason why the edge screen is only one side, in a weird way, I do find it appealing. (For starters, it does not make me go 'ugh.')

    I agree about the design.

It reminds me of an infinity pool.

I don't hate the look the minute I saw it two quotes came to mind:

    Steve Jobs:

"People think focus means saying yes to the thing you've got to focus on. But that's not what it means at all. It means saying no to the hundred other good ideas that there are. You have to pick carefully. I'm actually as proud of the things we haven't done as the things I have done. Innovation is saying no to 1,000 things.”"

    Jony Ive:

"Different' and 'new' is relatively easy. Doing something that's genuinely better is very hard"

This is good point.  You can't have a case that normally covers the sides, so it's very exposed and will take a direct hit if dropped on that side.

Samsung at least offered two models. If people prefer the wrap-around edge they have an option and if they don't also an option.

    Here are the specs.

They threw the entire buffet table at the wall. Using this approach, they might accidentally please some shoppers.

I sold off most of my Apple stock about a week ago at about $102. So part of me is happy when it goes down now, but part of me is sad. Very strange.  I only sold because I needed some cash.

That being said, while I'm sure the market is down because of announcements from Samsung and Sony trying to "one-up" Apple, I doubt this will last very long.  This typically happens.  People are trying to short the stock because there's a bit of turmoil right now due to announcements and the big one waiting to happen.

Keep in mind, Apple investors, that unless Apple solves world hunger and gives everyone in the world an iPhone for free... the stock will likely go down. Everyone finds some reason that Apple is doomed. But sure, as the sun will rise tomorrow, Apple will announce blow out sales in about a quarter, everyone will look as shocked as a blowup doll and annoying Android manufacturers will scramble to get their copying machines ramped up.

My hope is that all these pre-announcements will pale in comparison to what Apple has up their sleeve. My belief is that the iWatch has been a LONG time in the making and will revolutionize things like healthcare, home automation, payments and privacy/security...

Samsung got everyone talking about them, for the next fifteen minutes. Just like HTC. Just like Amazon with the Fire Phone: fifteen minutes of glory. Before the world goes back to talking about the next iPhone, and whatever else is next from Apple.

They're not that powerful. Remember when everyone thought Samsung was behind Blackberry's "Wake Up!" flash mob stunt that they did in front of an Apple Store in Australia? It was not Samsung.

Also, sounds like a solution in search of a problem.

They're giving their investors a chance to buy, it almost always happens before major bull-stock events. TSLA has been getting a similar treatment lately.

Yes it is great for the consumer to have the choice, but it feels like this is a reflection of their doubts and uncertainty about how it will make user experience better. If it truly is a must have feature then it should be the only version of the Note they sell.
