For me the allure of a larger screen is simply that it is easier to read. The millions of older people who use reading glasses, but don't wear glasses for anything else are inconvenienced by small screen sizes. Not always, but in many instances, we have to put on our reading glasses to read fine detail on the phone screen - including overly tiny text. My hope is that these larger screens will help with this issue. I also feel that this has been a driver of consumers preferring larger screens in competing devices.
To be frank, who really expects Apple 'not' to at least release both at the same time in limited quantities? It wouldn't make business sense to make people wait. People who want a 5.5" want one today let alone a month or 3 down the line.
I was getting used to wait for it but if its available at launch its nice. I have a feeling they will be backorder.
If quantities run out of 5.5", if limited availability, which is the best way to put in order for one: Online with Apple to place order, visit your local Apple Store to place order, Visit the cell carrier you are using to place order or something else?
I seem to recall how some ordered new iMac, I think, from Apple when availability was limited and were still waiting when others who had placed order a different way were having order fulfilled sooner.
Any comments? Thanks.
I think you can cancel an order if it hasnt shipped, so you can order and still try to get one at a store.

You realize you can double tap the screen to zoom, right? Bigger screen ? bigger pixels.
Can someone please explain to me why I should be so excited about a larger iPhone when for years I was told by Apple that I don't want one?
And just to add one more thing, nobody has any idea what phones will be like in let's say ten years time.
We might all say today that 5.5" is huge, and that's plenty enough for me, and I will never, ever go bigger than that, but hell. We might all be using 30" Phones in a few years. Phones that use foldable screens, that you can just fold up and put in your pocket. People will be walking around with damn cinema displays in their front pants pockets.
Now, that is just some wild speculation by me, but you get the idea. Things change, and what we might think is acceptable today (phone sizes) is not what's going to be acceptable in the future.
That what I do on my 4s but then I have to move the screen all the time to read, its annoying. I would rather have a bigger screen.
and the keyboard is just too small when I type.
Funny how we didn't say that about the old blackberry and palm treos back in the before time, in the long long ago, or otherwise we'd have giant flip phones with full sized QWERTY keyboards and 6" square screens today.

Are you talking about the passport? Talk about a step backwards! " src="http://forums-files.appleinsider.com/images/smilies//lol.gif" />
Blackberry, who dismissed and ignored the iPhone and got their asses handed to them, have now in 2014 decided to come out with a square screen phone that has a plastic keyboard on it." src="http://forums-files.appleinsider.com/images/smilies//lol.gif" />
Any estimates as to when sales will actually go live? Keynote starts at 1:00pm Eastern, so I'm guessing it will be about 2:30 or 3:00 before the Apple Store opens back up. Is that about right?
(I want a new phone so bad--it has nothing to do with the size...)

I seriously doubt that it's same day.
Tue Sept 9. - Keynote
Fri Sept 12 - Online preorders at midnight or some weird time like that
If I hear another rumor about the fucking 5.5" model I'm gonna fucking shoot myself. We've ran the gamut of every single permutation of launch possibilities for that model, AI, have some damn class and wait for the damn keynote before publishing more shit like this.
Pssssttt...
I heard that if you have a 5.5" iPhone and visit Stonehenge with it at midnight on the winter solstice, a very interesting phenomenon will occur.
Why don't you do us all a favor and shoot yourself now
Yeah, both of you can **** yourselves.
Apple ][, that response is expected from you, since you've told me in the past I deserve to die, based on my nationality. Nothing new from the biggest bigot on this forum.
Bloggerblog, you're a known troll on this forum yet I would never say something so vile even to someone like you. You don't think thats disgusting? Telling someone they should kill themselves? And then claiming that person would be doing people a "favor"? Pretty filthy. Its obvious my response was in jest, to verbalize that I'm fed up with the particular 5.5" phone rumors. It's a common figure of speech. But your response shows everyone on this forum the type of classless, callous person you truly are. Asking someone to kill themselves now because it will do a favor to others should definitely be a bannable offense.
Gauging by replies I received and thank you for them, I may have stated my question poorly. I will put it this way and still looking for anyone's help...
If 5.5" iPhone is limited in quantity initially, which route is the best way to go to have order fulfilled when next batch of phones arrive. Would it be your local apple store, apple online, your cell phone carrier or something else? Or is it anyone's guess what gets priority? I'd hate to order via one method, like online at Apple.com and have it take longer then, if only I had gone this route like order through cell phone carrier and get an e-mail that my product has shipped while reading posts of people who ordered at such a date and are still waiting while people at a later date when ordered are getting iPhone 6.
Probably worded that confusingly as well.
Short and sweet… especially those that have ordered iPhones in the past. What would you say is the best route to take when ordering out of stock newly announced iPhones and to get your order fulfilled in the quickest manner?

Serious answer. Nobody knows yet. It will all be determined tomorrow.
Apple hasn't always done the same thing each year on launch, so we'll see what they do this year.
You realize you can double tap the screen to zoom, right? Bigger screen ? bigger pixels.

When the iPhone was released, it was the largest phone around with the largest display. It was revolutionary.
Things do change you know, and 2007 is not 2014.
Now there are various size iPhones, and this way, virtually everybody can and should be happy.
In seven years time from now, in 2021, quite a few things will have changed from today too.
Cant wait to play me some Modern Combat 5: Blackout on the 5.5 screen…..eat your heart out PSVita.
You realize you can double tap the screen to zoom, right? Bigger screen ? bigger pixels.

It's probably the rumor mill equivalent of "fan art."

so now there will 3 different iphone sizes, thats little bit confusing and i think apple is losing its uniqueness.

Not at all!
Apple's products have always come in a variety of shapes and sizes. This is no different.
And especially on a small product like a phone, it's important to have a few different sizes to accommodate most tastes and preferences out there.
