5.5" 'iPhone 6' said to launch in limited quantities on Sept. 19 alongside 4.7" model

Apple fans clamoring for the anticipated 5.5-inch version of Apple's "iPhone 6" may not have to wait long, as a new report claims that the "phablet" model will launch alongside the 4.7-inch version on Sept. 19, though quantities could be limited at launch

Mockup created by Martin Hajek.

The alleged launch date for both anticipated "iPhone 6" models was reported on Monday by iGen.fr, which has accurately revealed product release dates in the past. The Sept. 19 date is no surprise, as Apple has historically made its new iPhones available two Fridays after they are announced, but recent reports had suggested the larger 5.5-inch model might lag behind the 4.7-inch version.

But according to Monday's rumor, that won't be the case and the 5.5-inch model will also be available to buy on Sept. 19. Quantities of the larger version could be limited, however, which would explain why earlier reports raised concerns about apparent production issues.

Lending even more credibility to these claims is the fact that multiple parts --?and even alleged full functioning models -- of the 4.7-inch "iPhone 6" have leaked online. But considerably fewer leaks have been seen for the rumored 5.5-inch version.

According to the report, the 4.7-inch "iPhone 6" is identified as model N61, while the jumbo-sized 5.5-inch model has an internal model number of N56.

As for what the products might be named, an earlier separate report alleged that the 4.7-inch model will carry the traditional "iPhone 6" naming scheme, while the larger version will supposedly be identified as the "iPhone 6 Plus." Both models will be larger than the current flagship iPhone 5s, which features a 4-inch display that has become among the tiniest among smartphones on the market as consumers have gravitated toward larger screens.

Apple first switched to a 4-inch display in 2012 with the launch of the iPhone 5. Prior to that, all iPhone models featured shorter 3.5-inch displays at the same width. But this year's upgrade is expected to introduce new displays at new resolutions that are both wider and taller than their predecessors.

In addition to featuring larger screens, the new iPhones are also expected to see a complete redesign, with slightly tapered glass edges, round corners, and enlarged volume buttons. Hardware leaks also suggest that the lock button has been moved to the upper right side of the handset, which would ease in one-handed use, while the camera on the back of the unit has been shown to slightly protrude from the device's thin profile.

Both the 4.7- and 5.5-inch versions of the "iPhone 6" are expected to be showcased by Apple at its media event on Tuesday, scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. Pacific, 1 p.m. Eastern. AppleInsider will be onhand at the Flint Center in Cupertino, Calif., and will provide full coverage through our liveblog, as well as via the official AppleInsider app for iPhone and iPad.

There's always something that will only be available in limited quantities. Last year, it was the gold iPhone that was hard to get, and this year it will probably be the 5.5" iPhone.

Go ahead and use the fakes/reals of the leaked physical pictures of the iPhone, AI. At least they’re better than that mockup.

If I hear another rumor about the fucking 5.5" model I'm gonna fucking shoot myself. We've ran the gamut of every single permutation of launch possibilities for that model, AI, have some damn class and wait for the damn keynote before publishing more shit like this.

To be frank, who really expects Apple 'not' to at least release both at the same time in limited quantities?  It wouldn't make business sense to make people wait.  People who want a 5.5" want one today let alone a month or 3 down the line.

Of course there is really only one iPhone 6 but it has a flexible sapphire screen and you can stretch or shrink the phone to suit your own needs.

It's not like Apple is doing it on purpose. It's simple supply and demand, and if there aren't enough 5.5"s to go around at launch, then they will be hard to get.

And yes, people will wait for an Apple device. We've seen that time and time again. What other choice do they have? Buy a disgusting and inferior Android phone? <img class=" src="http://forums-files.appleinsider.com/images/smilies//lol.gif" />

This is fine with me, hopefully it means I'll be able to pre-order the 4.7".

The speculation rodeo only has 24 hours to play out. Woo hoo!

Start queuing up your Chinese factory spy shots of the iPhone 7.

On a related note, Samsung to announce its new product strategy on September 10, 2014, 10:00 AM PDT.

Dear analysts, which will it be next week: "delayed", non existent, "on time" in limited qty, "on time", or Apple changed it in spite of my prediction.

Well, it’s certainly good practice to hone your skills in this way. Mockups look good in portfolios and such.

This one’s just way off. That’s first-gen amounts of bezel, that is.

well, in the 'the market of one' department, Moving from a 4s, 4.7" will suffice for me and those like me.

But I don't begrudge Apple selling a larger one... (if/when) they do, as long as the aren't driving a 'either/or' upselling  decision

if announced tomorrow (if not available), and the larger one has better battery life, or more 'wow' factors other than smaller screen, I'll be upset.

If it's basically an Ipad Mini/RD vs iPad Air sort of features/pricing model, I'm cool with that.

6 months from now... well, I'll okay with that being a totally new 'buy' cycle.

You're not suggesting analysts being people like anybody else who take rumours off the Internet sites and making stuff up to suit their preferances? <img class=" src="http://forums-files.appleinsider.com/images/smilies//lol.gif" />

Still at least they get paid.  I guess they should be the one's laughing.

The gold 5.5" iPhone 6 with 128GB capacity will definitely be the hottest item this holiday season. The limited quantities will make people go mad.....again. Idiots will be paying out their ass on ebay for these models. Give me a space grey 5.5" 128GB and I'll be happy. I'll wait until next year though when I can just walk in and get one.

    Serious question%u2026

If quantities run out of 5.5", if limited availability, which is the best way to put in order for one: Online with Apple to place order, visit your local Apple Store to place order, Visit the cell carrier you are using to place order or something else?

I seem to recall how some ordered new iMac, I think, from Apple when availability was limited and were still waiting when others who had placed order a different way were having order fulfilled sooner.

    Any comments? Thanks.
