I'm 100% in the same camp as that guy, but perhaps we lack imagination. I would contend that it is the Apple watch which lacks imagination but whatever.
This! (for Canada too please). I want my phone to replace my driver's license, all my cards, passport, car keys, house keys, any key, etc.
Replace your driver license? Absolutely not. If you voluntarily hand over your phone, it could be implied consent to a search of the device. Bad idea. Keep your license physical and apart from your phone.
The renderings on AI over the past year draw rings around this fugly design. Even though I'm not particularly interested in the functionality of it I certainly expected much more than this that would coax me to buy it. However this clunky looking thing just unnerves me.
Some of the renderings presented (suggested, at least) serious usability issues in terms of interaction with the OS.
Me too, I was trying no be polite and give the chap a chance to explain or back down graciously.
Though then again... perhaps Apple doesn’t get a percentage, but rather a fixed amount for each transaction. They then wouldn’t need to know how much anything costs or what was purchased, just that a purchase was made.
Apple doesn't need to know, Amex, Visa, MasterCard know, and they'll just send Apple a daily deposit.
Big companies like these get audited, and they are used to revenue sharing, so it's not like Apple needs to track individual transactions to get paid points.
Left handed design: I can't imagine that there were no left handed people anywhere in the design team for this, and that they were ignored when they said "Hey, this thing is kinda awkward for me." Even if Apple had uncharacteristically completely forgotten about or ignored left handed people, it's just software, they can change it.
Likewise the counter-clockwise hand movement, metric clock, and every other alternative form of display. It's software. Want it? Write it.
Take note, as said previously, there is a left-handed version available.

Surely, there will be the day that all our ID's will be in electronic form. In fact, right now

You can travel to the United States without a passport.
It’s called an EDL, an Enhanced Driver’s License, and it’s been adopted by four provinces to date - British Columbia, Ontario, Quebec and Manitoba.
Created with the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative (WHTI) to speed up the process for those who frequently go south, as well as to allow for spontaneous cross-border travel via land and sea (if travelling by air, you’ll still need a passport).
An EDL looks similar to the driver’s licence you have now, but with the words “Enhanced” and “CAN” printed across the top.
However, there is one major difference between the two that you cannot see, and that’s the addition of an embedded RFID tag.
Radio Frequency Identification, or RFID, is a microchip with an antenna that’s millimetres small. Use an RFID reader to scan the card, and the chip will broadcast back your unique number.
This number is used by US border officials to locate you in the database shared with our Canadian border officials.
Let’s say you’re crossing by car. Your EDL is read at the stop sign just before the guardhouse, your unique number entered into the database, and by the time you’ve pulled up to the house, the guard has your information on their screen (name, address, citizenship, digital photo and more.)
Come on, Hermie. You weren't born yesterday. Wall Street is interested in one thing only and they'll pressure the stock down or pump it up to get it.
Let's put it this way... if Apple sold 100 million iPhones and 50 million watches and 40 million iPads in the Q1 2016 and the stock stayed below $120 then it would become way too obvious that AAPL was being over manipulated.
No reason to read comments at tech blogs for the next few days. The trolls are spinning their wheels away.
The response seems to be positive overall at less techy sites though. Most consumers seem to be excited about the Apple Watch as well as Apple Pay.
The Apple Watch may not be an iPhone sized success (especially if the prices are on the higher end) but I think it will do much better than other smart watches have done. Sales may be more in line with the iPod and iPad rather than the iPhone simply because watches are accessories not necessities.

Isn't it funny how, not that long ago, we didn't know about mobile phones and smart phones. Now they are "necessities".
There is no hypocrisy involved because you don't wear an iPhone on your wrist. The iPhone 6 is 6.9mm thick and it goes in your pocket - the ?watch is 11mm thick and goes on your wrist. In terms of thickness, it's worse than if you were wearing an iPhone.
I am wondering how the security and payment thing works as the watch doesn't have a touch ID sensor. Can you make a payment via the watch without first using the touch ID sensor on the paired phone?
How does the NFC payment work if it's paired to an iPhone 5? I would guess a PIN, or could you not use it for payments with an iPhone 5 at all?
It seems to be the best smart-watch anyone has come up with to-date. That said, I don't need a smart watch in my life and only very occasionally use a watch. It is too thick and chunky for my taste.
I am sure the ?watch 6 will be a marvel.
I hadn't seen any info on its measured thickness. Thanks for that. 11mm is about .44 inches, compared with the Moto 360 at .5" and with its considerably larger face. I think the Apple watch compares favorably in that regard.

Well, what did you expect? They’d do it for free. That’d have been a first!
Banks only generate $40 billion annually on swiping?
Apple’s hardware alone will do that.

One thing I can see is that this is not the profit booster that Wall Street envisioned.
Like the iPad, this watch will reach a peak very soon and then the numbers will begin to dwindle.
Also like the iPad, the functionality just isn't there, yet, to make this a must have item.

Certainly, the EDL could be incorporated via Apple Pay, just like Apple might soon have all four major U.S. card issuers on board with its new Apple Pay service.
Same for my NEXUS card.
Any features that increase the growth or power of government I'm not really interested. Keep it small and constitutional, IMO.
