My only complaint is that the new phones don't come in black, or at least a darker gray. Silver and Space Gray look too similar to me, at least in photos.
Stop worrying about Android and focus on what Apple can bring. Big iPhones does not compete directly with big Android phones.
What good is the 5.5" screen? You don't have widgets or interactive home screen buttons. It is essentially an iPad Mini minus 3" with a phone.
I like to see more advanced lock screen capabilities, widgets, and ability to run 2 apps. Such as browse Safari and text message in one screen.
You Fandroids and your "widgets". Since you've probably never used an Apple device, I'll tell you that Tiger (OS X 10.4) came out with Dashboard 9 1/2 years ago. I've had it disabled since a week later. This is the most worthless idea ever conceived—I can't believe it's still hanging on in Mavericks! (Plese tell me it's gone in Yosemite?)

What does this even mean? Who cares? I’d rather have a product that works than one that has to be forcibly made too large to be usable just to fit in useless features.
Not necessarily. I think it was a British University that proved that you can comfortably read data from a NFC chip with the receiver being 3/4 meters away from the chip.
I want to know if Apple can suppress the reading of the chip unless you press TouchID. Furthermore what data are transmitted. Is it data that will change with every transaction or can my data be mined?
Furthermore I want to know if Apple will sometime start to deliver this years technology in smaller (4'') form factor again. I wanted to renew my contract this year with a new iPhone, not so sure at the moment. Apple shocked me going full phablet squeezing those who don't want a phablet to old technology or Microsoft(no Android for me).

Although there is no need for widgets iOS 8 does have them.

Hope Apple bring the new screen sizes to the iPod. I love the new 5.5" screen size but still think it is too large for use as a phone. I will probably upgrade to the 4.7" when my contract expires but would love an iPod touch with the 5.5" screen for using at home.
Seeing the iPad Mini sitting next to the iPhone 6 Plus does remind us of how freakishly close the iPad Mini comes to being just a small step up from the 6 Plus. Adding telephony capability to the iPad Mini no longer seems a question of "why" but of "why not and when." Perhaps VOIP on LTE obviates the need for traditional telephony.
Here's a candidate use case: I've sometimes use my iPhone 4S in speakerphone mode for doing conference calls and it works ok with everyone huddled around the phone. Putting telephony in the iPad products with microphones and better speakers on all 4 sides of the iPad unit would make it a nice portable mobile group teleconferencing solution. While this could be served by the iPhone the iPad allows better audio potential, the addition of microphones optimized for far field operation, and a bigger screen to show video images of any remote participants using FaceTime capable devices. Local participants don't have to huddle up quite so close. In essence the iPad becomes an entirely self contained video teleconferencing hub for small groups.
Throw in an Apple TV that's slaved to the iPad and you've got all of the essential elements for a highly cost effective "Presence" solution build around standard iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, and FaceTime products. Yeah this can be cobbled together today, but having Apple provide all of the pieces and parts and pre-integration opens up another opportunity for Apple to get deeper into the day to day world of business focused applications.
Longer term I can see Apple coming up with steerable/tracking FaceTime cameras that can track you (the user) through a range of movement, both in range and azimuth. No reason you shouldn't be able to walk around a space or engage in some activity while using FaceTime without moving out of frame or losing microphone quality. Putting this capability in an iPad or Apple television would bring FaceTime Presence to the living room, conference room, control rooms, etc., for far less than what competitive offerings go for today.
The weird thing is that front pockets in guys pants are getting bigger so chances are the 5.5 will still fit in a pocket...
So we can expect hear more comments of: "is that your iPhone 6 Plus, or are you just happy to see me?"
Maybe that's why Apple hired all those fashion people -- to influence design trends so people won't blink at buying a ridiculously huge phone with no practical way to carry it.
Am I the only one who considers it a MAJOR marketing fail by Apple to not include a simple ID slot in the new cases? Of course I'll find a third party one, but it could have been Apple to subtly suggest they've eliminated my need for a wallet in most situations...actually make a little room to fold a 20 or two and make that all, right?

I agree, was expecting to come out with feelings on the new size.
Yeah.. I was looking for the emotional aspect too. All I wanna know is if the Plus feels good to use. If the keyboard is nice in portraight. The only personal remark in this article about the + seems "the 6+ initially feels quite monstrously large". Well.. They only touched it for a few minutes, I guess. We just have to wait till it comes out.
"All android phablet makers are probably peeing in the pants now. Apple enter the phablet market "and take the most of the pie, the rest will be divided for Samsung, Sony, LG, Moto and some unknow Chinese made brands...Damn, Apple, you're cleaning up the mobile world."
Hardly, Apple is not going to gain any real market share back from Android. Especially when they are spec driven and the Iphone6 matches the android flagships of 2012 with a price point nearly double for a contract what those phones can be had outright.
Apple will keep the same people, possibly lose some. True this is a huge step for Apple, but they are playing catchup with Android and while this phone closes the gap somewhat. They have a long way to go.

Hardly,
Apple isn't going to gain market share back from Android, in fact it might lose more. Android users are more spec driven and the Iphone 6 specs rival the Android flagships of 2012. Why would an android user pay $400 for a phone with a two year contract where a similar Android phone could be had for $300-350 outright?
Put it this way, the Galaxy S5 with 32 gigs of ram retails for $199.99 with a two year contract.
The equivalent Iphone 6 plus (presume we add 32 to the Samsung because apple skipped that ) Is going to cost $399.99 with that same contract
Why would someone pay double the cost for a phone with similar features? Answer: They won't
The market share wont change as people have their respective allegiances and apple has done nothing to give Android users a reason to switch over. I just wish apple had gotten closer to Android to force Android to up the ante.

No, I think you're the only one. There will be thousands of new cases to choose from soon enough and without a doubt someone will offer a wallet case of some kind for the iPhone 6.

close enough so you can lick it.

Don't be a dick.
Link? Cause NFC 'typically requires a distance of 10 cm or less'.

Thanks for that.
Wow, 45cm
Wow, not exactly secure then. Well, better get an armed-wallet then, I suppose.

Does iOS 8 let me organize my contacts into groups yet? Y' know family, friends business etc.
