Absolutely horrible implementation, that seems like it would cause way too many accidental activations. Plus it just scales down the display, instead of actually bringing things where you can, you know, reach them.

Does sound a little "different" doesn't it? In practice tho it's said to be pretty effective.

Since it's not enabled by default it certainly requires more initial effort to set up than Apple's solution. From video presentations of it II like the way it's done on the 6+. If it works just as well in practice users will appreciate it.
Here's a random question.
I meant to order two identical sixes at 64 GB, but apparently, in the predawn excitement I got a 64 and a 128. Of course, the 128 is connected to my Wife's number. Can I just switch the SIMs and then activate as if nothing else happened, or is there more to it than that. (Or is there less--maybe it won't matter at all?)
All the carrier cares about is that they get you locked into contracts. You can swap phones all you want.
My AT&T order is still saying October 13-31 this morning, as it did last night. I'm hoping the carriers don't have a clue about how many units they'll get and the orders will get filled more quickly.
Don't have any idea. You could do a search for Nexus devices and see what comes up. There's only a three models numbers available and only one of them is a smartphone. FWIW I don't see it mentioned.

The way it looks to me, you made one mistake, the other was a 'planned mistake', but you screwed up royally with the genuine mistake. Very funny. Unfortunately I don't know the answer to your question but I am pretty sure you can switch them at the point of activation. Hopefully you ordered them from Apple. They are invariably so much better to deal with than the carriers.
At showing you how stupid you are for buying a phone too large to be used.
Yeah it's a nice implementation but a compromise. Better than Damnsung's implementation at least.
Bottom line, it is a stoopidly large device to carry around at all hours of the day. It is closer to iPad than iPhone. Like I hoped early on they should have called it the iPad Nano (with cellular connectivity).
The video is supposed to be showing "one handed operation", yet both hands are being used! " src="http://forums-files.appleinsider.com/images/smilies//lol.gif" />
And it's pretty ugly how you get a white bezel all of a sudden when the screen shrinks! Like most things Android, there is no attention to detail at all!
By following Samsung's lead, Apple could well make back as much or more money it's claimed they lost from them copying Apple and Samsung's sales will suffer.
Revenge, and it didn't take years in the courts or making a lot of lawyers very wealthy, just competition.
I still think if Apple had announced a 4" 6c with Touch ID this launch would have been even greater.

Ah! you reminded me of something I was gonna say.
I'm just afraid a 5.5" iPhone will hurt iPad sales. The reason tablets aren't doing as well as smartphones today is because they're too similar in function and people have a hard time justifying a second device.
Of course one way to fix this issue is by announcing a larger iPad. Another would be to further differentiate iPhone from iPad.
Comments
Yeah, I did notice that.
Interesting.
Even I wasn't aware of that.
LOL me neither, and I've owned a Note 3 for almost a year.

Does Google include this feature with it's Nexus devices?
I don't think there's any Nexus phablets.
Any Google devices then?
About the 5.5” specifically, yes.
In practice tho it's said to be pretty effective.

Depressing - Saturday 7am in California-
AT&T shows for iPhone 6: ships in 21-35 business days for any GB in space grey;
for silver or gold, 16GB or 64GB ship in 7-14 business days, 128GB will still arrive 9/19/14.
For 6Plus: any GB in any color will ship between Nov 9 and Nov 27 (that's roughly 7+ to 10 weeks from release);
Verizon shows for iPhone 6: 16GB delivers by 10/7, 64GB delivers by 10/14, 128GB delivers by 9/19 in space grey,
silver 16GB or 64GB deliver by 10/7, 128GB delivers 9/19; gold still delivers 9/19 in any GB;
6Plus delivers 10/28 in any GB in space grey; in silver delivers 10/21 in 16GB or 128GB but 10/28 in 64GB;
gold delivers 10/21 in 16GB, 10/28 in 64GB or 128GB.
I know you could all look this up on your own, but I thought it might be useful to place a marker for later comparison.
My own headache is trying to organize the purchase of 3 6's, all probably 64GB but maybe one in 128GB, and one Plus 128GB, all in space grey,
all together in a share plan, all discounted for a govt. employee (my wife), and maybe with trade-ins...
I'm about ready to consider a collection of the finest tin cans and silken threads…(if I can find them in space grey).

You must have no life.
how do u know?
That's not reassuring that it hasn't been implemented more widely. Apple has the Reachability function on all their current phones.

The video of that Samsung phone is a big joke!
What a butt ugly and useless implementation!

And swiping like that is just a mess.
Or wait in line now.
There were people waiting inline BEFORE the keynote. Gotta love Apple fans. What do jelalous android fans call them? iSheep?

Samedung are crapping in their pants right now
Expect some more anti-Apple ads soon, making fun of all Apple users.
