Apple better get a fix out this afternoon. Still it's going to make people nervous about installing updates in the future. Releasing a software update that disables people's cell phone service is a serious **** up. How the hell did this ever get Ok'd for release?

Obviously a Samsung mole is working at Apple now.

i'm fairly confident given the widespread problems that Apple's alleged "Crisis Centre" is in full operation and blocked/blocking this download (i am sure they will).

For us guys it's ok - we know the forums etc, but it's not going to look pretty with people lusting after a few day old phones finding they don't work..

Apple just stopped signing the 8.0.1 IPSW.

It appears that if you apply the update from Itunes, it will resolve the issues, though it would be a restore if you already installed it.

Oh, great. I’m halfway through an iTunes installation. What happens to me now?

Because the name implies some kinda of skeuomorphism.

We all know that any form skeuomorphism should be destroyed. /s

I was under the impression that the verification took place at the beginning of the install process... you should be fine.

Beginning page 3, shortly after the update became available. Yes, LOTS of comments about no service. This update maybe needed a tad more testing...

This is very strange though. I always expect some minor bugs to be added with an update. It's normal, and it's just a fact of life.

But these are major problems. While it seems as though many, if not most people, aren't having these problems, a lot are. One would think that major areas such as cell connectivity and Touch ID would have been tested to extinction. I wonder what these problems are coming from.

However, Apple isn't the only with problems with updates. Microsoft has been having problems with almost all their updates for several years now. More than a few are rendering machines totally unusable.

And Google's updates are always riddled with bugs.

    What's going on?

It takes place after the download and the "Preparing the update". Then you get verification. After that, it installs.

I'm on Live Chat with Apple and we have noticed two more bugs. You can't shut down your phone without an instant restart and you can't reset the phone from iTunes so you can reinstall IOS 8.

I was updating both my iPhone 5 and my iPad Air. Both seemed to finish the download (after an unholy amount of time, just like the iOS 8 upgrade the other day) and the "preparing the update" message. But then, both stated that I could " install now". I don't remember seeing the verication step. I've lost track. I don't recall if that means that everything is ready for the install itself, or whether I have to start from the beginning. Given that Apple supposedly withdrew the update from their servers, it's hard to tell. But whatever it is, I'm waiting for a new one.
